Posted by… suppressed (1) by the Post Ghost! 👻Casela was on her way to engineering. Hampton had summoned her to see the final design of his shield. =^=Lt. Synthi-er to Cpt. Cobb. Sir could you join Lt. Hampton and myself down in main engineering? It has to do with the away team and the mental trauma reported by the Einstein.=^=
Casela stepped into main engineering and nodded to Lt. Hampton. “I’ve called the captain down so he can see what you’ve come up with. I hope that’s alright Lt. I know you prefer to have his approval.”
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS
Cobb arrived not too far behind Synthi-er. As he approached the pair, he appeared to be finishing the last bites of a cookie shaped not entirely unlike the Leviathan itself.
“Lt Hampton, Lt Synthi-er,” he nodded in greeting to the pair once his mouth had cleared of chocolate chips, although they might still detect a trace of mint on his breath, “So, what have you got for me, eh?”
- Captain Zachariah Cobb
Hampton waited for both Cobb and Synthi-er to arrive before clearing his throat. “I have developed a way to block out some of the signals being emitted onboard the Einstein which might be harmful to the crew. He motioned to the schematics pulled up at his engineering station. “It’s a miniature multiphasic deflector screen generator. It can produce a field up to one hundred feet that blocks the signals.” He had the smallest of smirks on his face. Hampton quite enjoyed getting attention for his work, and this was a moment of that.
Lt. William Hampton-CE
Casela looked over the schematics that Hampton had on the screen. It was even more refined, sleek? It was just more. This was his moment though so she just stayed quiet, her face showing how impressed she was. She waited for Cobb to speak.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNSThe captain remained silent for a few moments as he brought his face close to the terminal and studied the schematics with an intensity that would be familiar to fellow engineer, Hampton.
Then, retreating to a workbench, if for no other reason than for something to lean against, he nodded at the Engineering Chief. “Nice work, Lieutenant. Very nice. Do you have a ballpark for the weight of the thing yet? I know these RTF folks like to get good and loaded with all manner of weapons and devices. And how many can we spare resources to make? One? Or several?”
- Captain Zachariah Cobb
Hampton watched as the captain studied his specs, and smiled when he complemented the young chief’s work. “Thank you captain.” He said, a genuine smile on his face. He walked up to the schematics as Cobb took a step back and hit a button, displaying a different angle to the device. “This thing ways about 18 kilograms, It can be carried on a persons back, and I have built it so that it can be harnessed around someone. But ideally,” Hampton pointed to four balls on the bottom of the cubicle device. “It would roll on those, I have rigged up a control panel that can guide its path. That way the team isn’t beholden to my movements.” He looked at the counselor and captain. “I have also programmed several proximity indicators to alert crew when they are almost out of the shields range. As for numbers.” He turned back to the specs and closed them. “I can maybe build two, but only one for certain, and I don’t have time to make two even if I could.”

Cobb nodded. “Aye, I understand. I was trying my luck at asking for the impossible, eh? But what you’ve done here is close enough,” he winked at the CE.
Casela watched the screen. Hampton had really upped the concept that he had originally shown her. He was beyond brilliant he was also creative and could think ‘outside the box’ as the saying went. If she hadn’t before, she did now have a great deal of respect for the engineer. She certainly wouldn’t call them ‘kindred spirits’ but they were cut from similar molds. A lot of distrust for those around them, a need for privacy, their own code of doing things, and crude attitudes that served them well. And they were both the best at what they did. “I can’t say anything more than I have before, Hampton, but you have worked no small miracle in a few days. Thank you.”
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS“Well, whatever authorisation you need from me, you have it,” the Captain consented with another nod. Then moving closer to Hampton and lowering his voice, although not quite sufficient to mask his words from Synthi-er, he added, “Watch yourself on the away mission, eh, lad? Yours is a mind I have no desire to replace.”
- Captain Zachariah Cobb
Hampton smirked at the captain. “Thank you sir.” He nodded his head. At Cobb’s more private comment, the Chief engineer grinned. “Don’t worry sir. I have no intention of becoming this ships first casualty.” He appreciated the respect Cobb was showing him. “I would hate,” He continued. “To leave alone with our … more quiet rtf friends.” He looked over at Casela with a smile.
