Shock went for a late-night snack. He had not eaten all day. Anomalies had kept him busy on the Bridge and in his ready room all day. He was tired. He checked the time, 23:11 hours. He needed some food before retiring for the night. He walked to the mess hall. It was quiet. No one was there. He walked up to the replicator:

“Baked potato, no flavouring. Oil. And a pot of hot water, and a tea cup.”

Instantaneously appearing, he sprinkled the oil on the steaming baked potato. From his pocket, he took out some real loose-leaf tea – tieguanyin from Earth’s eastern Asia region, and placed the leaves his the glass pot of hot water.

He walked to a table close to the windows, seating himself to see the stars outside.

In his glass pot, he saw the leaves slowly expanding and colouring the once-clear water to a darker, more yellowish colour. He took a deep breath and began eating.

Shock, Captain
Commanding Officer

The skin gave little resistance. It was thin and brittle, his teeth breaking it cleanly. The oil clung to the surface, leaving a light gloss on his tongue. The inside of the potato was dry but yielding. The starch dissolved slowly, coating his mouth in a powdery film, mixed with the flavourless vegetable oil and his own familiar saliva. It was not an unpleasant experience.

He noted the warmth of his bite. It spread evenly, carrying no sharpness, no spice. Only the faint trace of earth. It reminded him of the mineral-rich foods of his childhood Vulcan, foods grown locally and organically. Though Vulcan foods would, for reasons obvious, have a completely different mineral make-up, greatly affecting the flavour.

This meal was a good mix of carbohydrate and fat, suitable since he had not eaten all day, and needed energy. Protein would follow in the next meal. But now he needed energy more than anything.

He chewed, swallowed, and observed. A potato offered little more than sustenance. Yet, it provided a warmth in his belly that brought his memories to his childhood, with his parents, with his family. He would not admit it, but they were good memories. He thought of his father, who died all too early, and of his mother and brother. He had not spoken with them since his father’s funeral. It had simply not been logical to reach out after. He assumed it had not been logical for them either.

As he ate, he could not help but think of them more and more. Their absence in his life was now acutely pronounced.

And he took another bite, letting the steaming potato flesh fill his belly with added warmth.

Commanding Officer

Bethany had lost a lot of her socialness since her last mission on the Asimov. It didn’t do for a department head to be reclusive though. So she made herself go to the mess hall to eat. Aasrel was on duty, and so she entered the mess alone. She hated the onslaught of minds, she hated their emotions, she hated this curse, and mostly she hated herself and what she was.

She entered the mess with a smile though and made sure to speak briefly to the officers she knew before grabbing a plate and sitting down at an empty table to eat.

Lt. Gadi, CTO/RTF

Elora glanced around the room, she wanted to get to know some of her staff and crew, she recognized Gadi from her file and made way to the table with her tray. “Mind if I join you Lieutenant?”

Lieutenant Commander Elora Myles
Executive Officer U.S.S Leviathan

Bethany looked up and smiled, more like grinned, “Of course commander, please join me.”

Lt. Gadi, CTO/RTF

Lucas had just finished getting himself settled on board the Leviathan. He decided to go and meet some of the crew that he hadn’t met yet. He went to the replicator and order. “Computer Chocolate cake and one cup of apple cider.” He ordered from the replicator. After requesting that he then grabbed his tray of chocolate cake and cup of apple cider and sat down at a table of his own as he is still getting used to being on board the ship and learning who his two commanding officers were but also learning the ships specs and crew.

Lieutenant Commander Lucas “Markiplier” Hall Angel
Chief of Operations
USS Leviathan

Elora sat down. “Thank you Lieutenant” she said and looked over at the chief at the other table, “Care to join us chief?” she asked. She shifted her protein plate around a little and smiled. “It’s nice to finally meet you Lieutenant” Elora appeared to be in top physical condition, on par with anyone on her team. Her record would reflect close quarters work, extraction teams, hostage retrieval and other rapid response work.

Lieutenant Commander Elora Myles
Executive Officer U.S.S Leviathan

“You as well Cmdr. How are you finding the transition?” Bethany asked. It was small talk, but she never minded that. She was always social. Well she used to be. She wasn’t that person anymore and she missed it.

Lt. Gadi, CTO/RTF

“Ok I think” she said with a smirk. “This is not exactly a ship that you just walk on too, it has double the amount of processes to understand and more departments. Crew seems solid though, I requested Lieutenant Thorne to be transferred here the second I got my orders, took me awhile to catch up.” she said taking a bite. “I hope he’s meeting your standards Lieutenant.” she said weighing the look on Gadi’s face.

Lieutenant Commander Elora Myles
Executive Officer U.S.S Leviathan

“He seems to be holding up well. He didn’t ask for an immediate transfer after he got a look at our guests. So he’s made of sterner stuff than most. I think he’ll do alright,” Gadi said honestly. She liked Thorne, seemed like a good officer. “May I ask how you know him, Cmdr?”

Lt. Gadi, CTO/RTF

She nodded the truth was classified however she could give some detail. “He and I served together on a rapid response team, he’s a great soldier and even better man. ” she said leaning in a little your lucky to have him as far as I’m concerned” she smiled, “Seen much action Lieutenant?” she ask

Lieutenant Commander Elora Myles
Executive Officer U.S.S Leviathan

“He seems steady. I’m looking forward to working with him.” Gadi was all too accustomed to classified and didn’t press or really get curious. She didn’t need to be. With luck, which she didn’t have, she would need to know.

“On the Leviathan? Not yet. In my service? Too much of it, even for an adrenaline junkie like me.”

Lt. Gadi, CTO/RTF
Elora shifted, Gadi had triggered something in the woman that caused her to shift tone. “Fellow thrill seeker? that should make for trouble” she noted. “Ryland will have to keep us reigned in I suspect” she laughed a little. “What do you do to chase that itch lieutenant?”

Lieutenant Commander Elora Myles
Executive Officer U.S.S Leviathan

“Sky diving, space diving, MMA, free climbing, hacking and infiltrating places I’m not supposed to be,” Gadi grinned, “You know, the usual. What about you?”

Lt. Gadi, CTO/RTF

“Not that I get the time to do much anymore, anything that has risk to it, the diving sounds amazing , never done it” she noted giving Gadi a smile. “I’m up to try just about anything once.” she said. “My favorite is big surf back on earth.” she took a sip off her drink.
Lieutenant Commander Elora Myles
Executive Officer U.S.S Leviathan

“Space diving is fun, but you have to have the right equipment or you’ll burn up on reentry. But there is nothing else like it. I’d be willing to take you, the next time we have a chance,” Gadi offered.

Lt. Gadi, CTO/RTF

Elora smiled, “I think I would like that Lieutenant” she said. “I was wondering if you could walk me through containment tomorrow?” she asked, it was an abrupt change of topic but things were getting personal and she could not afford to much of that right now.

Lieutenant Commander Elora Myles
Executive Officer U.S.S Leviathan

Gadi nodded, “Of course, Cmdr. I am at your disposal. Is there anything in particular you would like to see?”

Lt. Gadi, CTO/RTF

He smiled. “I would like to see it all Lieutenant, I have a feeling that reports do not do it justice” she noted take a drink and looking around the room. The crew seemed relaxed give what was on board the ship. “Is there anything you think I should pay special attention too?”

Lieutenant Commander Elora Myles
Executive Officer U.S.S Leviathan

“From my department’s perspective? The intense adherence to protocol and regular rigorous training. There are many things on the containment deck that require special attention. From architecture, to experiments, to classifications, etc. But science, medical, engineering would be better equipped to address those particulars.”

Lt. Gadi, CTO/RTF

Elora smiled briefly. “We can set up regular drills if you like” she said. “Get your thoughts on my desk in the next few days, and we’ll work from there.” she looked around the room. “Crew seems to be in good spirits given what they deal with on the regular” he observed. “How are the realy?” she asked.

Lieutenant Commander Elora Myles
Captain U.S.S Leviathan

Bethany looked around. “They are always in constant combat readiness mode. That takes a toll on anyone. They’ve learned to relax and find fun where they can. They are under constant strain though. Even when the mission is done, it isn’t really because we take it with us.”

Lt. Gadi, CTO/RTF

She knew the drill all too well, being a special operator, seeing the darker side of not only their enemies but of Starfleet. “Is there anything you can think of that I or the command staff can do to help with that?” she asked, she wanted a crew that did their job but to do their job well they needed to rest from time to time.

Captain Elora Myles
Commanding Officer U.S.S Leviathan

“Honestly, I don’t have an answer for that yet. I haven’t been here long enough. But it is something I am working on, and once I have a solid plan, I will present it to you, Ma’am.”

Lt. Gadi, CTO/RTF
She smiled, “I don’t normally like to do business during social times, however I do have a request that I would like run by you, if you would preferer we can take it up in our next meeting?” she asked. She needed a Chief of Security, the roles seemed to blend together like butter on toast but maybe she was missing something.

Captain Elora Myles
Commanding Officer U.S.S Leviathan

“Go right ahead Cmdr. This is a working lunch really. Just a brief stop in the middle of my shift,” Gadi said.

Lt. Gadi, CTO/RTF
