Shock stepped into the conference lounge ten minutes before the hour. The room was still, the hum of the ship’s systems, and the quiet low-frequency whoosh of the fans, the only sounds. He placed the big ceramic teapot he had carried with care onto the side counter, then poured the steeped breakfast tea blend into serving pots. He set them beside the pots of coffee and the water carafes already in place. He thought these small things – rituals if you will – made the table less austere and more welcoming. Even for a Vulcan, this had had logic – it would be beneficial for good discussion and team alliance.

He walked the perimeter once, noting the terminals and screen, then returned to the head of the table. He folded his hands behind his back and allowed himself one long breath.

Two chairs at his left and right sat empty in his mind’s eye: that of the chief engineer and the chief of security. Two key posts had become vacant. In truth, he knew too little of the crew’s lived capabilities to simply assign acting officers. He was still too new. Knowledge would built from observation and record alike. But there had not been enough time for him to do so.

He felt the weariness at the edges. A ship of this class could not run without those posts. The Leviathan’s record showed anomalies could occur at any moment. They would need people who could take the difficult and quick decisions necessary for the security and engineering operations of the ship.

The meeting would begin soon. He wanted to hear what the others thought on solutions. Perhaps someone might step forward; perhaps others might suggest names. Either way, he would listen.

He waited for his senior officers to come.

(OOC: if you’re tagged, I want you in!)

Shock, Captain
Commanding Officer

Walking into the room only a min behind the captain, Elora looked around the room taking it in. She was new here and had not had a chance to connect with the department heads yet, she would be scheduling those meetings soon. What she needed was a yeoman to get all the details put together for her. “Captain” she said looking for a seat, each place she had served had different seating set ups she was not sure which was her seat. “Do we have assigned seats Sir?”

Bethany heard the summons and left her post in the hands of one of her officers and made her way to the conference room. She entered, “Captain, Commander,” she greeted briefly before taking a seat.

Lt. Gadi, CTO/RTF

Steven walked into the space noting the beverages scattered along the table. This was going to be a more informal meeting he guessed based on the set up of the table. It was probably also going to be a long one. People didn’t put out food and drink unless they wanted to lure you in. Even though food and beverages were free in Starfleet, the appeal of having it still attracted the primal part of anyone. It was like the old saying the best tasting sandwich was the sandwich someone made for you. Taking a seat, he grabbed a cup and poured himself a coffee.

Brad strolled into the lounge, taking a second to pour a cup of tea. It was all to often the CMO forgot to hydrate or eat, so he certainly wouldn’t turn down pre-provided refreshments, and having a warm beverage in the morning was useful when he expected to have to talk much before his voice was warmed up for the day. “Sir, ma’am,” he nodded to the CO and XO as he took a chair three down on the Captain’s left.

Lieutenant Bradley Maxwell
Chief Medical Officer

“Good morning,” Shock said, in a tone other Vulcans might identify as unduly cheerful, but most non-Vulcans would not notice. “Please be seated.”

“I have called you here today to discuss the vacancies of chief engineer and the chief of security. You may also add matters to the agenda. I am listening.”

Shock, Captain
Commanding Officer

Adam stepped in just as the Captain spoke up; he was unusually late for a meeting, PaDD in hand. He poured himself a glass of water and sat down “Do we have incoming staff from the Main fleet?” He asked; he hadn’t heard any recent whispers about transferring staff, but the ARU was difficult to get a read on, even when you were directly involved.

CIO

“No,” Shock said succinctly, and paused, thinking of how to phrase the conundrum. Before he could say something however, he was interrupted by Montoya.

As the senior staff gathered around the table to and listened to the captain talk through the security needs of the ship a call came in from the bridge Interrupting the meeting.

=^= “Incoming message from Admiral Stockton Sir” =^= the current NL on the bridge called.

Inigo Montoya (Sim Operator)

“On screen,” Shock said. Had Montoya said it was clearance-required, Shock would have taken it privately. Montoya had also cleared the message – had it not been prioritized, Montoya wouldn’t have interrupted the commanding officer himself for a routine message.

Shock, Captain
Commanding Officer

Steven shifted slightly in his seat preparing for the message from the Admiral.

Gadi leaned back in her chair and turned her attention toward the message as it came across the screen.

Lt. Gadi, CTO/RTF

The USS Leviathan cut smoothly through warp seven, stars streaming like threads of silver across the viewer. In the briefing room, the senior staff assembled as the comm channel chimed.

The screen blinked to life, revealing the lined but steady face of Admiral Stockton at Starfleet Command.

Admiral Stockton:
“Captain Shock. Good to see you again. I trust Leviathan and her crew are holding together well.”

Stockton’s expression softened briefly, but the hint of a smile vanished as he tapped a padd on his desk.

GM

“Indeed, admiral,” replied Shock in his usual dead-pan way. He did not know why the admiral had called him. “I am in the conference room with my senior crew. Do you require to speak with me privately?”

Shock, Captain
Commanding Officer

“No, Captain. This concerns all of you.”

His tone turned businesslike as he tapped the padd in front of him.

“I’m afraid I don’t bring you a social call. We have a situation in the Pindarus sector. A Federation research outpost on Pindarus IV has missed three consecutive check-ins—seventy-two hours overdue. Their last transmission mentioned anomalous environmental fluctuations at a dig site. The message ended… abruptly.”

He leaned forward slightly, voice lowering a touch.

“Long-range probes show sporadic power readings from the outpost, and lifesigns are inconclusive at best. Starfleet marked the situation as unusual with some com’s that sounded like people singing, the team has run long range scans which indicate potential subspace tearing or altercation which puts it under your unit’s mandate. Your mission parameters are as follows:

Proceed at best possible speed to Pindarus IV.

Re-establish contact with the research personnel.

Identify and secure any anomalous object or phenomenon.

Contain the situation before it spreads beyond the colony.

You are to assume standard anomaly recovery protocols. Don’t let this one slip through the cracks, Captain.”

Stockton’s gaze lingered on Shock for a long moment before the transmission ended, the screen fading to black and leaving the faint hum of the ship’s engines in the quiet conference room.

GM??

The captain looked around the table.

“You heard the admiral. Before we leave this table, I need to hear how each department intends to prepare. We will after that make the preparations and set course to Pindarus V.”

He waited for someone else to speak. He was curious how his department heads would take on this task.

Shock, Captain
Commanding Officer

“RTF will scan the data we are sent and look for possible symptoms. Until we get closer and get more scans it will be impossible to know what precautions to take, but for now we will prep. I will have our recon team ready to deploy to gather more intel upon arrival,” Gadi said.

Lt. Gadi, CTO/RTF

Laural’s had quietly entered the conference room just before the admiral had appeared on screen. She hated being late for the briefing, but had been meeting with a particularly distraught crewmember, and she didn’t feel comfortable, leaving until she was sure he had calmed and was feeling safe. She had sent a message to the Captain’s yeoman explaining the situation, but she had no idea if Shock had received word.

Digesting the Admiral’s message, her tardiness appeared to be the least of their immediate worries, but nevertheless, she would apologize to her colleagues at the first appropriate opportunity. “I’d like to review the personnel files of the outpost‘s current staff,” the counselor suggested. “I can’t say whether any of their specific details will shed light on what is happening there, but at the very least, I’d like to understand who is in need of assistance and to identify any behavioral or psychological factors that can help us predict how they might respond to whatever anomaly this might be, once we know more. I’d be happy to coordinate with medical if that would be helpful.“

Dr. Laural Witley , Chief Counselor.

Adam leaned back slightly “I’ll gather any relevant data and intelligence from the area as well as comb through the most recent transmissions from the outpost and any other locations within the system.” He said simply

“I will run some scans to see if the subspace tearing hypothesis holds up,” Steven stated.

OOC: just as a reminder, please actually post your character running the scans.

The Padd Shock was holding stated it had a priority message incoming eyes only, Elora’s also flashed the same message. She looked at the captain and waited for the room to clear. “Sir, priority message from the admiral, it’s for us both” she noted waiting for him to respond.

Executive Officer U.S.S Leviathan

Shock nodded.

“Ready room,” he said, as he stood up. He was unsure what would now be suddenly, after they had just had a briefing from the admiral. Was this something different, or something related to the situation?

He led the way to the ready room.

Shock, Cpt
Commanding Officer (outgoing)

As they made their way into the ready room and took as seat, Elora gave shock a look. As the screen flickered on , Admiral once again came into view. “Sorry Captain new orders came in for you. Starfleet Intelligence needs your expertise, a ship will meet with the Leviathan on route, you are to depart immediately, further instructions will be provided once you are underway. Commander Myles you are Acting Captain. That is all” he finished, the screen going dark.

It was not often that Shock was struck quiet. But this was one of those occasions. This was a short call, highly unceremonious, ending his tenure.

He rose from his seat and looked at Elora Myles. Before he could utter something, the communicator buzzed.

“Bridge to Captain Shock. We have been approached by the USS Behemoth. They have a priority request for you to beam over.”

Shock looked again at Myles. Everything went faster than expected. He replied through the communicator. “Acknowledged. I will be there in 30 minutes.”

He turned to Myles.

“I will pack my things, and then head to the transporter room. Will you join me there in 30 minutes, and say good-bye?”

He planned to make an all-ship announcement just before beaming off.

Shock, Cpt
Commanding Officer (outgoing)

Elora was a little shocked as well, she had hoped that the transfer might lead her getting a ship of her own, but this was very unorthodox. “Of course sir” she responded falling in next too him. “Sir this seems wrong, i will not be offended if you want to lodge a formal complaint, i will back you as best as I can” she noted a million things floating in her head. They had sent her her to evaluate the ship and she had less than a few days to even understand where her quarters were let alone evaluate anything. She did not say anything yet.
