Following Lieutenant Marvix out of the captain’s office gave Nyman a slight sense of unease. It wasn’t enough time to gauge what she really thought about him. In contrast, Lieutenant Marvix seemed more at ease. Perhaps it was just Southern charm, but Nyman also sensed a certain genuineness in them.

“So, where are we off to first, Lieutenant?” he asked.

‘Ah like mah ship tours to be lead by the tourer, where do you feel like visiting first Lieutenant?’ Ash sensed something in the Counsellor, she just couldn’t work it out yet…

-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-

“Well,” Nyman said, bringing a hand up to his chin in thought,

“ I’ve already seen my office. Is there anywhere else important to my duties I should be familiar with?”

Being that this was his first time as a department head, he wanted to become familiar with the additional responsibilities this position held. To be a productive member of the crew. He was still a bit tired, but this desire to serve the crew effectively combined with plain curiosity tempted him to get the most out of this offer for now.

“Why don’t we start with Engineering? Probably worth you paying a visit to each Department Head’s base of operations right?”

-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-

“Sounds good to me then,” Nyman said with a nod.

“By the way, where are you from?”

‘Born on Trill, raised in Austin on Earth, why d’ya ask?’

-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-

“Oh, I thought I recognized the accent.” Nyman replied,

“I’m from Kansas myself, Topeka area. But I’ve visited Texas before. My brother’s in-laws are from Houston.”

This story was very rehearsed, but their was some truth to it. Since being on Earth, he had mostly lived in Kansas. His ‘brother’ was a Section 31 agent in charge of helping maintain his cover, including posing as his twin. Even if at this point Mavix knew this was a cover story, saying it out loud for the sake of any eavesdropping NEs didn’t hurt.

“Oh really? My first host had family in Topeka, or was it Lincoln, Nebraska? Forgive me Counselor, mah memories of past lives have been a little… all over the place recently.”
