Thelev walked down the corridor towards the sickbay, still getting used to the new uniform and pip on his collar. The captain of the other ship had taken him straight from the brig to a shuttle, put coordinates into the shuttle’s computer, and handed Thelev a uniform to change into, along with orders to report to sickbay once he arrived. So here he was, on his way to that check in with only a faint idea of what he needed to be doing.
He stepped in the door to the sickbay and waited for someone to notice him (which might take a while, given his medical uniform).

“You may notice some sensitivity for the next few days,” Amparo cautioned Ensign Tlirthe, a synthetic bioloigist (as they recently learned) who hobbled into Sickbay with a fracture tibia and sour grimace. “You’ll find the new tissue is especially prone to injury, so reduce stress on your ankle for at least 48hrs and report to Sickbay if you notice any unusual purpleness or pain. Simple enough?”

“Mmm…” grumbled Tlirthe, who seemed less concerned with her ankle than the half-analysed samples and PaDDs stacked haphazardly on her bench. The hallmark of a scientist, Amparo mused.

“Nurse Lazarewicz will be in touch about follow up,” Amparo lingered by the bulkhead separating reception from the main treatment ward, “I expect to hear the results of your protein analysis next week.”

Tlirthe appreciated their interest with the faintest of smiles and bade them farewell, soon disappearing behind medbay doors. Her departure alert them to the presence of an Andorian man who, judging by the off-blue decorating his collar, shared their profession. They were still fresh to the Leviathan and had yet to familiarise themself with the staff beyond basic rosters and record, but they did not recognise his face.

So, donning a smile, Amparo made a swift approach.

“Ensign,” they extended a calloused hand in greeting, “I apologise for the intrusion, but I don’t believe we’ve met. I’m Doctor Álvaro-Byrd. Are you new to the Leviathan?”

— Dr Álvaro-Byrd
“Oh!” Thelev said as the doctor addressed him. “Yeah, I’m new here. I think I was supposed to check in here once I arrived? I’m kind of new to the whole Starfleet thing,” he admitted, his nervous smile partially masking the worries suffusing his mind. Was he doing this right? What if he was in the wrong place? Did he even belong here? He forced the thoughts to the back of his mind and asked “Could you possibly help me, doctor?”

“Then you’re in the right place,” Amparo cracked an impish grin, “I happen to know the boss, personally. Why don’t you hop on a biobed and we can run a quick scan – see if everything checks out – then we can discuss duties, take a tour of the place, and all of that good stuff. Does that sound reasonable to you, Mr…?”
