“That is correct. I transferred to the USS Chernov as part of a cultural exchange between Starfleet and the Galdori Star Corps. My government sent me along with five other officers to observe and report back on our opinions of Federation policy and behaviour. Chris Taggart was a friend, just as much as he was a Captain. The crew was lively, and good at their jobs. They were somewhat of a family to me, but that family was slowly going away. First Bridie transferring, then Kane falling through the portal… I think Chris was the only one I had left, but he was fading because of Kane’s loss. I don’t know what became of him with my disappearance, but I really hope he’s okay…”

The normally stoic officer found himself tearing up and wiped his wrist across his face, considering the fact that he was the only one left. They were all dead or in another universe, lost to him forever.

Adam considered the man coldly as he wiped his tears away, internally he understood that it must be hard to be torn from not only your time but your reality as well. All the people he knew likely never met in this universe if what he said was true. He did allow Mwezi a few moments to gather himself before joining “Have you had a chance to compare what you know of your world’s history to ours, was there a difference before the arrival of this” He looked at the screen again unnecessarily “Nero and the Narada”

“A little, but I haven’t been able to find much about our history compared to your history. Not with the lack of access I’ve been given. What I can tell you is what I know of my own history. In 2233, the USS Kelvin was obliterated by the Narada, a Romulan Mining Vessel from the future. The only survivors were the inhabitants of a Medical shuttlecraft. From that point, the Federation increased their military presence, becoming less lenient to enemies and ramping up their Deep Space exploration. Which is how they encountered my people in 2245. Regarding the Narada, it stayed mainly out of the way until 2258, when another individual from the future, an “Ambassador Spock,” arrived. He had a powerful gravity weapon, the nature of which I’m not aware, but Nero and his crew used that weapon to implode Vulcan, apparently in revenge for the destruction of Romulus in the future they originated from.”

“It was only due to the actions of the crew of the Enterprise, led by a young captain named James Kirk, that Earth didn’t follow in the same fate as Vulcan. Since then a few interesting things have happened. I joined Starfleet less than a year after the Narada Incident. The Vulcans that were left over after the death of their planet have formed a Vulcan Colony and are doing their best to keep their culture and history alive. I don’t think our Romulans have done much since. Um… That’s the effect of the Narada and her captain on my history.”

Adams’s only reaction was a blink. He tapped the console a few times and opened up Captain Kirk’s service record, the man was one of the most legendary and infamous Starfleet Captain’s in the history of the service. He quickly read to confirm what he already knew “It seems the effect this Narada had on your history expedited certain events, Captain Kirk did not assume command of the Enterprise until 2265, at the time he was the youngest Captain in the history of the Fleet, a feat he managed to beat himself by nearly a decade” His tone remained mostly neutral but a hint of amusement entered it for a moment. Of course, Kirk would find a way to outshine himself in another reality.

Adam tapped again several times then turned the screen around showing the face of Chris Taggart in his early thirties perhaps, wearing a blue uniform “Was this your Captain Taggart?” He asked, his tone returning to a colder tone as he studied the man.

Mwezi’s expression softened at the sight of his Captain. “He looks so young,” he said softly, then nodded. “That’s my Captain, yes. He looks much younger than I remember him. There are fewer troubles on his face,” he commented, looking thoughtful.

“May I ask what kind of life he had in this timeline?”

Adam inclined his head “He served as a science officer, retired as a full Lieutenant. Federation historical records have him working as a civilian archaeologist for most of his life. He never married and we have no records of children.” He explained in the same steady tone of voice “I’ve made inquires and it seems you never joined Starfleet, remaining within the Galdori Space program as a pilot. I can’t learn more without raising any alarms as of yet but I intend to have a full record soon”

Mwezi was quiet, trying to decide how much he wanted to know about the life of a man who was him and yet wasn’t him at the same time. His brow furrowed slightly. “It makes sense that he was a pilot,” he spoke, emphasizing the he to make it clear that the Mwezi of this timeline wasn’t him. He hadn’t gone through the same experiences. It was easier to think about it in terms of his doppelganger being someone else. “I had similar ambitions before the Starfleet Exchange program swept me up. I was hoping to pilot a Paruk-Class…” he reflected. They had said he had an aptitude for the joining. That he would have made a brilliant pilot.

“What else do you want to discuss? I’m sure it’s not all history lessons. I’ve spoken briefly with your Captain about the nature of this vessel and her mission, and I’m willing to give it a go. Join the crew officially, so to speak. It’s not like I have anything to go home to on Galdor…”
