Adam sat behind his desk staring at the internal Security footage. He’d been monitoring the new arrival, a supposed Starfleet Officer going by the name Mwezi who had arrived with another of his Species. According to them, they were time-travelers as well as potential universe hoppers. Once again he opened the logs from Sickbay and read through the reports, it mentioned a Romulan Mining vessel and a Romulan named Nero. It had been ten years since Romulus was destroyed and the famed Ambassador Spock died stopping the Explosion from reaching further systems. He opened the intelligence files and again looked at the Files on the ship and Romulan Captain, ten years previously he would not have been able to look up a simple mining Captain but improved relations with the Romulans in the last decade made it easier for Starfleet Intelligence at least.

He scratched his beard with mild irritation, the existence of parallel realities was a possibility and time-travel was an accepted part of Starfleet life but as far as he was aware Starfleet had only records of regular contact with a universe dubbed ‘The Mirror Universe’ probably named by some fool Scientist wanting to explore it. Different timelines was a possibility but travelling between them and in time was a stretch. He couldn’t rely on second-hand information. If this ‘Mwezi’ If that is his name Is to serve on the Leviathan then he would need further debriefings.

He wrote a brief message to ‘Mwezi’: “Report to CIO Office for Intelligence debriefing” He sent the message and returned to looking at the gathered Security footage of the two Laleri walking around the ship for the past few days.

CIO

Mwezi was relaxing, reading a book in his shared quarters with Kula when the message came up. Kula wasn’t there, off somewhere trying to socialize. He let out a quiet sigh and tapped out a message to her, letting her know he was off to some business. He scratched his nose as he stood up, wondering what he should wear. His old uniform? The casual outfits he’d replicated? The new uniform that had been requisitioned for him? He quietly stared at his drawer for a few moments before grabbing his new uniform and changing into it.

It was only a few minutes later that Mwezi stood at the CIO’s office, quietly lifting a hand to the chime to notify the man that he had arrived.

  • Mwezi

“Enter” A deep voice called behind the door. When the door opened it revealed a dimly lit office. The office had two other doors, one leading to a restroom and the other to the Intelligence wing itself. The Office was spacious, at the furthest end there was the CIO’s desk with two chairs on the other side, a single computer rising on the desk itself. There was a table with a holographic interface in one corner surrounded by several chairs and in the opposite corner was a sofa. Adam Magnusson was a small man when compared to the hulking figure of Mwezi, but for someone like Mwezi, it was easy to see a well-built figure and the look of a trained fighter. His hair was dark brown with hints of red in it and his well-trimmed beard was completely red.

He stood up and indicated to a chair “Please have a seat Lieutenant” His voice was deep and somewhat gravelly, unusual for someone of his size. He sat back down and crossed his legs. He wore a stony expression or a lack of expression on his face and his eyes seemed to weigh and measure the Laleri “This will be a formal debriefing of how you came to be on this vessel as well as to learn more about this Universe you say you are from. Any questions before we begin?” His voice was calm but without any definitive emotion much like his stoic face.

CIO

Mwezi took a quiet breath as he sat down on one of the chairs, turning it around so that the back of the chair was forwards and sitting like that. He’d never really liked sitting on human chairs, they made him feel like an adult sitting on a child’s chair. Spinning it around helped. “Of course, sir. I wouldn’t expect anything less from a person in your position. I had my doubts at first, but I’m beginning to come to grips with the fact that everything I know about the Federation’s recent history is false.”

He considered whether he had questions, but nothing came to mind that couldn’t wait a little longer. There was the question of what would be done with him and Kula, and possibilities of him being able to contact his homeworld or even go there, even though he didn’t know what kind of a world might await him. “I suppose the best question is, where should I begin?”

  • Lt. Mwezi

“We’ll start small.” Adam said in the same calm tone of voice. He considered the large Alien, he’d never served with a Laleri before but he knew there were several in Starfleet but he was largely unfamiliar with the Species before reading up on them after Mwezi’s arrival “Tell me about the Ship you served on” He glanced at his computer “You said the USS Chernov under Captain Chris Taggart” He read from his files.

CIO

“That is correct. I transferred to the USS Chernov as part of a cultural exchange between Starfleet and the Galdori Star Corps. My government sent me along with five other officers to observe and report back on our opinions of Federation policy and behaviour. Chris Taggart was a friend, just as much as he was a Captain. The crew was lively, and good at their jobs. They were somewhat of a family to me, but that family was slowly going away. First Bridie transferring, then Kane falling through the portal… I think Chris was the only one I had left, but he was fading because of Kane’s loss. I don’t know what became of him with my disappearance, but I really hope he’s okay…”

The normally stoic officer found himself tearing up and wiped his wrist across his face, considering the fact that he was the only one left. They were all dead or in another universe, lost to him forever.

  • Mwezi

Adam considered the man coldly as he wiped his tears away, internally he understood that it must be hard to be torn from not only your time but your reality as well. All the people he knew likely never met in this universe if what he said was true. He did allow Mwezi a few moments to gather himself before joining “Have you had a chance to compare what you know of your world’s history to ours, was there a difference before the arrival of this” He looked at the screen again unnecessarily “Nero and the Narada”

CIO

“A little, but I haven’t been able to find much about our history compared to your history. Not with the lack of access I’ve been given. What I can tell you is what I know of my own history. In 2233, the USS Kelvin was obliterated by the Narada, a Romulan Mining Vessel from the future. The only survivors were the inhabitants of a Medical shuttlecraft. From that point, the Federation increased their military presence, becoming less lenient to enemies and ramping up their Deep Space exploration. Which is how they encountered my people in 2245. Regarding the Narada, it stayed mainly out of the way until 2258, when another individual from the future, an “Ambassador Spock,” arrived. He had a powerful gravity weapon, the nature of which I’m not aware, but Nero and his crew used that weapon to implode Vulcan, apparently in revenge for the destruction of Romulus in the future they originated from.”

“It was only due to the actions of the crew of the Enterprise, led by a young captain named James Kirk, that Earth didn’t follow in the same fate as Vulcan. Since then a few interesting things have happened. I joined Starfleet less than a year after the Narada Incident. The Vulcans that were left over after the death of their planet have formed a Vulcan Colony and are doing their best to keep their culture and history alive. I don’t think our Romulans have done much since. Um… That’s the effect of the Narada and her captain on my history.”

Lt. Mwezi

Adams’s only reaction was a blink. He tapped the console a few times and opened up Captain Kirk’s service record, the man was one of the most legendary and infamous Starfleet Captain’s in the history of the service. He quickly read to confirm what he already knew “It seems the effect this Narada had on your history expedited certain events, Captain Kirk did not assume command of the Enterprise until 2265, at the time he was the youngest Captain in the history of the Fleet, a feat he managed to beat himself by nearly a decade” His tone remained mostly neutral but a hint of amusement entered it for a moment. Of course, Kirk would find a way to outshine himself in another reality.

Adam tapped again several times then turned the screen around showing the face of Chris Taggart in his early thirties perhaps, wearing a blue uniform “Was this your Captain Taggart?” He asked, his tone returning to a colder tone as he studied the man.

CIO

Mwezi’s expression softened at the sight of his Captain. “He looks so young,” he said softly, then nodded. “That’s my Captain, yes. He looks much younger than I remember him. There are fewer troubles on his face,” he commented, looking thoughtful.

“May I ask what kind of life he had in this timeline?”

Mwezi, Strange Traveler

Adam inclined his head “He served as a science officer, retired as a full Lieutenant. Federation historical records have him working as a civilian archaeologist for most of his life. He never married and we have no records of children.” He explained in the same steady tone of voice “I’ve made inquires and it seems you never joined Starfleet, remaining within the Galdori Space program as a pilot. I can’t learn more without raising any alarms as of yet but I intend to have a full record soon”
