As the ensign finally realizes that it’s not just about being a Vulcan he finally realizes that opening his emotions is the one thing that is different for him. It’s different for him cause he’s never shown his emotions to anyone. He then leaves his post in sickbay and goes to the captains quarters because there are things that he wants to talk to him about. He was unsure if he wanted to talk to the counselor about it but as of Mr. Logan, the captain is the only person he can actually look up too. Ever since Mr. Logan started to have some recreational stuff with the captain has been real nice for him. It’s something that he was actually looked forward to even though he didn’t want to show it. Even though he is a Vulcan, he wanted to open his emotions up. In starfleet history in the 23rd century with Captain James T. Kirk and Captain Spock. Captain Spock had a half brother that was more human and Mr. Logan wanted to be almost just like him but not with power. He wanted to show his feelings and actually be more like a human. Mr. Logan was reading starfleet history from the ships history texts and the mission to Nimbus III was the one that caught his eye so he decided to read that. He knew Captain Spock didn’t show his but his half brother did. While he was reading it, he finally gets to the captains quarters and chimes the door cause he knows that he can talk to the captain a little more. Logan actually trusts the captain a little more cause he actually looks up to him more then anyone else.Ensign Logan
Cobb too had been reading, although in his case the tome in question was the legendary “Whiskey Women: The Untold Story of How Women Saved Bourbon, Scotch, and Irish Whiskey”. It helped, he found, to pair a drinks flight with the book. So right now, he was enjoying his third tumbler of the evening.
At the sound of the doorchime, he slipped a bookmark into his page, drained the last mouthful from his glass, got to his feet (being sure to smooth down his hair as he did so), then, with a tired but still amicable voice, called out “Enter.”

The ensign walks in and says “Captain. I was wondering about something. Cause you’re the only one that I talk to the most and I wanted to know how it is to show feelings sir.” He said to the captain. As he was not to worried about opening up to his feelings, he wanted to know how it is to be more human.
“I am also sorry for interrupting as well I didn’t know that you were busy or something. I just thought I’d drop by and talk to you about to be human. While I was in sickbay and Cerenity came in so I can repair damage to her hand, I felt emotions more then normal then I am used to come out. Is that a common thing for you humans to use? I mean using more then one emotion sir.” He asked and is curious.Ensign Logan
“Well now,” Cobb replied, one hand idly combing his beard as the other gestured towards an empty chair for Logan to sit, “that is one hell of a question. And to tell the truth, I am not entirely sure where to begin. Perhaps with this,” and here he raised his glass in toast to his visitor before draining it in one gulp.
“As humans we are sometimes masters of our emotions. At others we find ourselves drowning at their whim. Just like Vulcans, we can train and we can learn to adopt more measured outward responses. Or as we sometimes like to call it, ‘putting on a poker face’. But beneath we are like the swan, all calm above the surface, but paddling like hell underneath!”
He allowed himself a hearty chuckle at his own joke, although wondered whether the Vulcan would share his amusement in turn?“I have no place to comment on your cultural beliefs and practices, Mr Logan. I understand how intrinsic to your society complete control of your emotions has become. And there is a part of me that holds an ocean of respect, plus a little dash of envy, for that fact. But as humans, it is through emotions that we forge connections. A shared laugh over a joke. A shared cry over a sad movie. These things serve to bond us, to strip away our differences to reveal the similarities beneath. Does that make sense to you?” he inquired with genuinely curious intent.

“So showing emotions is a good thing. So if someone was to make a joke, I should join them and enjoy myself? I’ve been thinking captain. I uh want to show emotions.” As he confessed but also then smiled. He never ever smiled but he feels like as a Vulcan, he should also go ahead and train himself as a human. Needs to think like a human feel like a human.
Cobb shrugged. “If you are asking for my personal opinion, then I consider it a good thing, yes. Ours is an infinitely vast universe, Mr Logan, and it is very easy to feel all alone. Forging friendships can do much to fend off that loneliness, to allow us to feel part of something bigger than ourselves, something more welcoming than our own petty fears and concerns.”
The captain paused and refilled his glass.
“But light is measured by its opposition to darkness. And while emotions can do much to swell the human spirit, so too can they tear it to shreds. Embracing emotion means accepting the bad as well as the good and as easily as a companion may on one occasion make you laugh, on another they can quickly reduce you to unendurable tears.”
“Also Captain something else came up to mind if you’d like to know sir.” As he held another PaDD but it wasn’t the one that he was reading. “It’s Cercenity. I told her that I was wanting to make a recommendation for her to help me in sickbay until our CMO is back. But I don’t think it’s a wise idea for me to do that since after all I’m not the CMO on board the ship.” He said as well.
Ensign Logan.
Zachariah accepted the PaDD, placing it immediately to one side as his focus remained wholly on the Vulcan.
“I would caution you, Mr Logan, to remember that Cerenity is only a child and that, while it is true that her intellect exceeds the natural capabilities of other children her age, this does not negate our own responsibilities, as adults, to offer her the same, appropriate protections. What I mean by that is, that the medical bay can be a dangerous place, full of injury and sickness and death. I am not convinced that such a location would be suitable for a small child to ‘hang out’.”
Sitting back, the captain lapsed into brief silence as he gave the matter additional thought.
“However, we do also have a responsibility for her education. And so perhaps there might be less challenging roles that she would be suitable to take on? Inventorying stock or delivering to recovering patients trivial items such as food or drink? I would see no problems with her participation in such tasks.”
