Raauhl continued to take notes, “This isn’t a witch hunt Lieutenant, there no blame to be passed around here.” He leaned back again, “Lets just try to encourage some more inter-crew events, outside of what the command staff organise, while I appreciate that you’re a very busy person splitting your time between your two duties I’d hate to have to come back to you about this.” He said closing the topic.Blame? Of course there was blame, there was always blame. That was the point of reviews to pass the buck as it were and set people on edge, against each other. Wasn’t that what she’d been trying to correct with her morale efforts. This crew would still be in fighting and coming to blows if they hadn’t worked so hard on morale!
It wasn’t Raauhl’s fault. His request was correct and he was doing his job as first officer. Too many years working under the command of people with 4 or 5 alternative motives and intrigue. She breathed and forced herself to move past all that experience. “No Cmdr we won’t need to return to this.” She would get it done, and have the back reports of crew morale completed as well.
But the assignment of blame was eating at her. It wasn’t because of training, the Section or anything so innocuous. It was more sinister– self doubt and self blame.
“The request may have been received and ill look into those requests, if they’re not acknowledged perhaps chase us up” He smiled.
To her credit though she didn’t say the next part out loud. Chase you up? Are you serious? The one person on this ship who is straight Star Fleet needs to be chased down to finalize crew evals? It’s not enough we chase half the crew to get them done, and even worse if there is an actual problem and they have to see us. I have to chase you down? Something wasn’t quite right with her. She’d been fine and amused at the meeting moments ago. If you would have just read the reports, acknowledged them instead of ignoring the hot headed counselor Hampton would not have happened! Her fists clenched. I even went to Cobb, and he lamented that Hampton wouldn’t appreciate his overtures any more. Let’s all play nice rather than confront the issue. She’d probably get brig time, she was yelling at him and it didn’t matter that no one else could hear her. He killed you, right in front of me. And I couldn’t save you. And she had tried to keep him with her, to get him to hold on, but she wasn’t enough. She wasn’t strong enough, she hadn’t been fast enough, she hadn’t been willing to kill Hampton. She hadn’t insisted they do something about him, but rather tried to make him part of the crew. I should have stopped him.
“Anyways, your department is performing above the standard line.” He took the PaDD from the top fo his small pile and handed it to her. “I’ve outlined some recommendations, Moving on I’d like you to also explain your short, mid and long term goals for your department.” He readied his PaDD to take more notes.
- Cmdr Raauhl, XO
Goals… goals? How about not being the reason anymore crew die. It was better if she didn’t talk anymore. It didn’t matter that it was telepathy, and if not for her own recovery it would probably hurt him. But the damage had made her ‘voice’ painful to herself and not anyone else. She nodded looking past him toward the wall, not seeing it. She wouldn’t be doing reports today, she’d be in therapy… Her voice was…restrained as she spoke. “Goals?” she simply pulled ideas out that she’d been contemplating for awhile. Things she and her staff had been discussing back and forth. “Long term I would like to see my staff get their security clearances increased. As of now, if any one wants to discuss a sensitive or classified topic they have to wait for me. It’s a time consuming process, but would be worth it. Midterm I would like my staff to arrange some basic trainings for RTF for psychological tactics to use when confronting anomalies. Short term, in line with your morale concerns, increase the use of the recreation rooms on the counseling deck.”
Lt Synthi-er CNSUnaware of what Casela was thinking Raauhl figured their meeting was going far better than he had planned, he was sure however that out of this formal set-up he’d not fair so much. “That’s a reasonable request I’ll submit it to the Captain but overall that decision to increase security clearance will lie with the top corridor. To make it move with a bit more weight I’ll endorse it myself and Im sure Captain Cobb would agree that it makes sense.” He thought to her other goals and nodded. “And or other suggestions and goals fall at my lap so I will sign them off, Good.”
Long years of training and experience allowed her to focus and push the rest aside, until she had time or like so many other things, perhaps never.
“There is a specific process in place for medical personnel to increase their security clearances, but it is a long process. I will have them start the paperwork, and submit to you and the captain when that part is done.” She made note, absently, on her PaDD of his approval for the rest.
He let out a long breath, “So the next part of this meeting is to go over what can be improved in your department before finishing up with the good.” Raauhl gave her an awkward smile, “Start with the bad end with the good so they say. Anything to start off with?” Security and medial to briefing room one, XO down he thought to himself.

Casela thought, she had a good department and really couldn’t complain. That attitude though was counter productive. You don’t get better by ignoring weaknesses. “We lack a range of exopsychology. We have as a team discussed taking courses for it, but that would reduce the number of hours available for counseling. We don’t provide enough appointment hours. The long hours and being short handed has made us all, snippy, for lack of a better word. It’s not carrying over to appointments so far. It’s the age old problem: who counsels the counselor. And we lack a psychological understanding of the anomalies. Other than myself no one has clearance to go observe them. I’m not suggesting changing that. I think that would be I’ll advised but it makes it harder to provide a professional evaluation when asked for it. They are a good staff, we’ll figure it out.” It was mechanical, but honest.
Lt Synthi-er CNSNoting down her goals he nodded and set his PaDD down once more, “These a perfectly fine and to address them I think I’ll look into getting a few of your department qualified in exopsycology, if you have any names submit them to me by the end of the week. As for who counsels the counsellors I will allocate some time where your department is on downtime and on emergency appointment only, spending it together as a department in the holodeck or in the bar that’s for your od decided but let us give you guys some well deserved down time.” Raauhl leaned back in his chair. “Finally I definitely cant guarantee being able to secure appointments with you anomalies, they need to be tried RTF personnel and I know apart from yourself we lack that skill set. Speak to Manhattan he may be able to peak to someone down thier chain of command. How does that sound?”
- Cmdr Raauhl, XO
“Broughous and Watkins. Ziecest already has some experience with other cultures and their psychology.” She figured it went without saying that she had plenty. “I’ll talk to Manhattan about. I don’t see it going anywhere. The clearance levels are there for a reason, but it’s a weakness to be aware of.” She nodded, “I’m sure the staff will enjoy the down time. Now to find the time in the schedule.” She smiled slightly. She appreciated for her staff. It wasn’t a flippant remark, just honest. Their schedule was already full but they deserved it. She finished the coffee, waiting for either more ‘bad’ or the ‘good.’ More apt weaknesses and strengths, and she was more than willing to discuss either. It put off a very uncomfortable session with Ziecest later.
Lt Synthi-er CNS“Perfect” Raauhl ticked of the things he had prepared in his mind he needed to speak to her about before finally “So were pretty much just about to wrap up here…” Lightbulb “Oh actually to help with your already busy schedules you should be receiving an email regarding your Asst. Chief counsellor, now I know what you might think was bringing someone in because we feel your department isn’t performing but that’s far from the truth, yo double hat two jobs and I think it’ll be good for you too have some help. ”
In the silence of his pause, she contemplated him. She restrained herself from grinning at his apparent relief, and she could guess he was expecting her to be more advisarial. And for appearance to Section (because they would see the reports) probably she should be, but she was just too damned tired to worry about it. But then all she could see was that giant hole appear in his torso and…his voice caught her attention. A new counselor? That made her raise a brow in surprise. They had been making staffing requests, but ARU command hadn’t seen fit to fill it. Casela had stopped making the request figuring ARU cared as much for their officers as the section did theirs. She uttered a surprised, “Thank you, Cmdr.”
Pulling out from the pile of PaDDs the information for her new assistant and passing it to her. “Lieutenant Junior Grade Anaya, A Deltan coming in from the USS Seeker She came highly recommended and of course under your tutelage, I’m sure you’ll make a fine team, Any final closing questions or remarks?” He asked sitting back awaiting for either a physical or mental attack.
- Cmdr Raauhl, XO
She took the PaDD and scanned over the profile and nodded once. “She’s got the background. Another telepath. Deltans have a very high pheromone production, and can be quite disruptive. We’ll have to make sure Dr Knox has the medication needed to suppress that. (OOC: Fifion, if I misread any information on the Deltans let me know). If she doesn’t use them we might have to find another way to counter act the affects.” Then she shrugged. If it was a problem it wouldn’t be anything new for the Leviathan…just another problem, and complication to deal with. Only this time it would be coming from her own department. “No nothing else as far as the MPAR goes.” She nodded towards the other PaDD she’d given him. “But an officially personal matter, if you have another minute. If not, tomorrow?” He was her direct chain of command. It would be easier to go to Cobb, but going over his head created problems as well. And she’d really rather deal with the official part before she had to deal with the questions, after her duty shift was over.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS“I have been assured that she takes all the necessary steps into ensuring her safety and that fo the people around her, and disclosed to me and the command team and now you is that she had taken an oath of celibacy” He smiled deciding the matter closed and moving onto her personal matter. “Go ahead, I have a few extra minutes.” He was curious to know what she wanted to talk about.

Casela nodded, she was sure the new officer would work out fine. Casela would make sure of it, and she knew the rest of the staff would be grateful for the help. Over all, as far as her department was concerned, things had gone well. She wasn’t sure how this next part would go over. It wasn’t her fault, she hadn’t done anything, this time. She reached across the table, pulling out the second PaDD she’d given him. The one with the message meant to be humorous and help him relax. She was sure his day had not been easy. She found though, that she was less hesitant about it than she was simply weary and tired. “Dr. Knox has recommended I have surgery, 7 days from now. I will need to be off duty for 8 days, with 5 of light duty. Since it’s not an emergency situation it requires your approval for the time off. Apparently Dr. Kastil’s repair of my ribs left me with some complications that Dr Knox is not happy about and it needs to be fixed before it gets worse.”
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS“Thats a lot of time off for a broken rib” He said trying not to sound teasing or give away his sarcasm. “I dont know, that’s quite a bit to ask for.” He pretended to think about it before smiling. “Take the time off you need, I mean really the only person who it effects is you since you dont understand the meaning of ‘light duties’ maybe ill have to put you in the brig” He placed his hands on the table, “If there’s anything else Ill see you for dinner?” He was past the agonising stage of the interview and wanted to show he was still normal.
- Cmdr Ryder Raauhl, XO
Broken rib? “No Cmdr. you misunderstand. My rib’s not broken. I didn’t get hurt. It is medical complications from the previous surgery.” She spoke absently, wanting him to understand she hadn’t been being reckless. Anyone else she wouldn’t have cared. His words registered while she spoke. quite a bit to ask for. A lot of time for a broken rib. He wasn’t going to give her the time. She didn’t have to have the procedure! If he didn’t approve it there was nothing Knox could do about it.....wait…take all the time she needed? Damn. He gave her the time off. Internally she deflated. Well that was disappointing: sickbay, doctors, knives, sedation…she felt sick.
The Brig? What was he going on about now? And it occurred to her, after a moment, he was teasing her. Ryder did spend a lot of time teasing her, but they were on duty at the moment. She knew he’d been dreading these evaluations for days. And he still had a few more to go. The brig indeed. She grinned, raising a single brow, “Dinner? I have no idea. See I’ve got this slave driver of an XO, and apparently I’m behind in reports. If I don’t get them done today, he might,” and the sarcasm dripped from her voice behind a poorly suppressed grin, with a fake shudder, “put an official reprimand in my file. Or throw me in the brig if he’s found one that can hold me.” She sounded as flippant and irreverent as ever, but Ryder knew her well enough now, to know she was teasing. They were fine, she wasn’t angry at him over meeting, frustrated over ‘goals’ and ‘good’ and ‘bad’ things, and this meeting certainly wasn’t going to bite him in the arse as he’d thought earlier.
Lt Synthi-er, CNS
The anxiety that had overwhelmed him when knowing he would have to report on the woman he was living with had all but drained away and that’s how he knew that thier relationship wouldn’t get in the way of work, the were both professionals even if they did enjoy teasing each other a little too much. “Well I’m sure I can put in a good word for you with him, we get on pretty well,” He said with a cheeky smile. “Well, I think that should wrap up everything if you have anything you remember later down the line let me know unless its pillow talk, in which case save it for the morning.” And there it was again that easy switch from her boss to her partner in crime.
