Casela watched Cerenity carefully. Like most children she was very inquisitive. She was not surprised at all that she heard what they were talking about. Children noticed everything around them even when adults didn’t want them to. She borrowed the PaDD again. ‘There are no other children on board. We have one 16 year old on board, but she’s a unique situation.’ Casela wasn’t willing to discuss Gen in more detail. Luna said she was out of S31 but she was going to investigate that. Others on the ship new about Casela’s pentient for protecting children and she had to make sure that Luna wasn’t there to trip her up. She didn’t get that sense though, and she’d learned to trust her instincts, but she wouldn’t be careless in taking care of Gen. ‘She can not wander this ship. There are many dangerous things here, and as part of RTF you will have combat training. It’s rough and intense and she won’t be able to come with you. If you need help finding someone to watch her while you are on duty just let someone know. I’m sure Lt Surda and Cpt Manhattan can help you find a schedule so you can get all your double duties taken care of and make sure you are home to her at a decent time.’

The look onunas face was priceless a mixture between im in so much trouble and this is impossible. She taped back ’ that’s easere said then done. Cerenity has out started everyone on the Viking and im not willing to leave her with just anyone. A friend gave me some kind of hologram babysitter I think ill give that a try for my next two check in appointments’.

Casela tapped on the PaDD, ‘It might be, but necessary. This ship is not a place for children. Every lab, every deck holds horrors, and they are dangerous for us, and even more so for her. She’s smart, she needs to understand. I would hate for someone to see a small child on board, assume she’s an anomaly and make a mistake. Many of the anomalies have taken the form of a child. I’m not trying to scare you, once the crew knows about her they will protect her fiercly. But this is a dangerous ship. She needs to understand she can’t wander. If need be, she can hang out down here on the counseling deck if your holographic baby sitter doesn’t work, or maybe our HUEY system can work. He’s very good at what he does.’

“HUEY system?” Luna said. Confusion on her face. She was slightly annoyed it was not that she did not understand the dangers but she also know cerenity and it seamed that unless she was watching her the child always seamed to find away to get into places she should not be. It was a frustrating situation and in this regard Luna felt she was failing as a parent.

Casela nodded, “He’s like an EMH program but so much more. He’s totally independent, can’t be shut off, and will relocate if something goes wrong with the system. He can even monitor using a drone that moves around the ship.”

“What is the hardest part of your job?”

Luna though for a moment.” Face my fears, and having to deal with Cerenity’s antics her favorite pass time to to escape from who ever is watching her and run around the ship cousinf trouble” Luna said.

” but mommy i just wanted to see how the ship worked” cerenity wined. Witch Luna quieted with a look.

“There is not anything you can throw at me that I can’t handle, it may take some tiral and error but I’ll get it right eventually. The darker sides of star fleet could not hold me for long so im not going to let anything defeat me” Luna said. There was confidence there bit it was also here way of pushing herself forward even when she wanted to quit. She was one other those people who never gave up.

Casela nodded, determination was good. “What about your worst nightmares? Or something worse than that? Anomalies can be passive, but the more dangerous ones make our nightmares look like lullabies. What do you do to unwind, En? To let go of the stress?”

” theres not much that scares me. Unless the anomalies can force me to relieve my past I don’t think they can scare me. Well that’s the only fear that can shut me down. I’m afraid that someone will get hurt under my watch especially cerenity. Unwind, cerenity and sometimes went to some of the more open spaces of the viking to fly, I sing sometimes usually to calm cerenity down after she has had and episode. Back on the Viking she use to clame that the shadows could talk and they wanted to eat the crew. I think it’s just her imagination running away with her though. Though I would say the best thing is having a good patrol that shows everything as as it should be and where it belongs” Luna said.

Casela considered the answer. She understood a mother’s constant concern. “How do you reconcile your need to be a mother to Cerentiy and your duties to protect the rest of the crew? How do you focus your mind?”

” so thats way you pace mommy and the shadows are to read i did not make them up.” Cerenity said.
” I did not say you made them up” Luna said. Cerenity went back to drawing knowing better then to continue the argument.

Luna smiled ” the two goal are not unrelated, if the crew and ship are safe then cerenity is safe, though it would help alot if I could get her to stay were I tell her to and not escape babysitters and go wondering the ship by herself.” Luna said.
Ensign Luna

“That’s not really an answer, En. I understand that you are a mother first and foremost. But our orders, all crew, no matter your position, requires you put the well being of ANY anomaly over the safety of the crew and anyone on it. What are you going to do then?”

Luna blinked confused. ” ill do my job. Lutanat I will not fail to protect anyone onboard this ship to include the anomalys. Have i made myself clear.” Luna said coldly. She did not particularly like people questioning her ability to do her job. She took a deep breath then said” What exactly are anomalys. Are orders were last minute and we were transferred with out much information.” Luna said calmly. She was that crazy Ensign the would run into danger over and over again if it ment that even would be safe. She had no problem risking her own life for compleat strangers. She just wouldn’t let them get close to her. No she would do her job and she would do it to the best of her ability.

Casela heard the coldness and internally took note. “Let me start by explaining my job to you, En. I’m here to ensure you are mentally prepared and stable enough for the job we do here. The questions are supposed to be uncomfortable. Oh my staff and I are here, for the normal counseling and support role you are used to, but more than that it is our job to determine when the job has become too much. To do that I have to have a base line for your temperment, mental state, and how you handle stress.” Casela sat back. “Anomalies are anything that is not normal. It might be living, it might not be. It might be dormant or active, or dangerous or benign. There is not any one good answer. But there is an endless supply of material in the ship database. (OOC: The MOTD. LOL). But when I tell you that, I’m not talking about living beings that are strange. I’m telling you that the Brass has told us to sacrifice those on this crew to save an anomaly that kills people. That if it were humanoid it would stand trial for murder and we have to put it first. How are you going to handle that? I have no doubt that you would protect this crew to the best of your ability. But these things aren’t crew and they aren’t anything with a soul.”

” im not going to allow it to hurt anyone and ill do my best not to harm it wail I’m trying to contain it. I don’t want to see anyone die where they have a sole or not” Luna said her mind wondering back to the scientists who had slower hundreds of animals onboard the viking luner her owl had ven one of the few animals the were able to save. A shiver ran down her and she was brought back to the present. ” I don’t werger there a monster or not I won’t let anyone else die infront of me with out a fight that includes these anomalies” Luna said.

Either Luna was being obtuse or she had a very black and white view of the universe. Casela was pretty sure it was the latter. And being in black and white didn’t work on this ship. “You will find Luna, that life here is not so black and white. If you find you are having trouble, I expect you to speak to someone about it. Your DH Surda is very good and supportive. We have a whole staff here, and Cpt Manhattan, in charge of RTF is also very good. Now let’s talk about Cerenity. She’s super smart, and you, and the rest of us want her to be safe. So let’s see what we can do about that. There is no area of this ship, except down here, that is really a safe place for a child to be.” Casela laughed but it didn’t reach her eyes, “There is no where on this ship that is safe for anyone.”

” I understand that and if I had a choice we would not be her bit we are so I will have to figure it ok. I’m guessing that there are no child friendly activities onboard this ship then? Luna asked. Casela may pick up on an overwhelming sense of worry edging towards panic. ” Casela, I need help i don’t know what I’m doing. She is only three and she understood concepts and can’t take apart just about anything I don’t know how she dose it. She is always where she is not allowed other children don’t understand her not there are any children onboard bust still. ” she said quietly. She shook her head trying to force herself to calm down. She may have also got the impression of a thought. ” im failing her”.

“All children can be a challenge, and are smart and stubborn, and wonderful in their own ways. So the good thing about Leviathan is that every access hatch and door require biometric and clearance codes to get in. We can put her biometrics in specifically to have the security programs block her from getting into anywhere, even from sneaking in with someone. That they will automatically track her. There is one other child on board. Her name is Gen and she’s 16. She spends her time down here and then we explore together. She’s older of course, but they might like to spend time together. And we can always make crew functions child friendly so that Cerenity can attend as well. We’ll work together. Maybe put a forcefield around the holo emmiters in your quarters so she can’t take apart the babysitter? I take it that is something she would do.”

Cerenity abruptly looked up. ” mommy im ok you don’t have to worry” cerenity said tackling Luna with a hug. The ensign was supposed and fell from her chair to the floor. She could not help but laugh. ” im alright cerenity go back to coloring” Luna said.

Luna grind as she got to her feet. ” yes thats exactly thats exactly the kind of thing thatt cerenity would do. Perhaps it would be a good idea for cerenity and gen to spend some time together that is if Gen’s parents are ok with it. “I’m sorry, I just… it’s hard sometimes I never know if I’m making the right choice for her” Luna said shaking her head. Cerenity settled back to drawing. She had moved on to drawing her family. ” im surprised she is still entertained she usually loses interest in N activity in about five minutes.
