Little Cerenity had been left with a holographic babysitter while mom had gone to check in with the COS and visit the captain. Of course, the child had deactivated the hologram and took off to explore the ship. She walked throw the holes being ignored by the adults for the most part.
so long as she did not bump into anyone the toddler was easy enough to miss. So she walked around acting as if she belonged.

It was not long until she found one of the labs onboard she stood just inside the door off to the side simply watching the scientists work. She wondered what they were doing. She centered a little further into the lab being careful to stay out of the way and out of sight for the most part. Staying hidden was pretty easy when you were so small and quiet. Her wings did not even make noise when she ruffled her feathers there were some unpleasant smells and sounds here why what had made them she wondered.
Cerenity

Surda went on patrols just like any of her officers did, but she didn’t usually find anything interesting going on. Small children with wings in the science labs were far more interesting than whether or not NEs Lage and Jomal were having a lover’s spat. She turned the corner and crouched down next to the child, speaking softly. “I like to watch them work too. Do you like science?” She didn’t usually engage with children, but science labs could be dangerous.

Cerenity stared at the stranger turning her head sideways. She blinked ” my mommy wears the same uniform are you a security officer? I like science I want to know how the universe works? And why some humans have wings and others don’t?” She said opening her wings. Then she frowned. ” if you’re going to try and take me home I’m not going. Then took off in a dead spring moving further into the lab dogfight the scientists and their work easily.
Cerenity

Surda had opened her mouth to answer but didn’t get a chance before the child ran off. She moved along behind her carefully, ready to grab her out of the way if she needed to.

Lazol heard a small voice as he bolted to see a small child running towards him “Computer. Seal this room, lockdown protocol Lazol 3b” he barked as forcefields went up instantly around the room, all 6 surfaces protected by unseen fields millimeters within the bulkhead. He glared and barked, “Computer force field bubble around the unauthorized intruder.” He turned to the chief of security “And how exactly did a child get in my labs? We have biometric locks, the computer tracks every thing in and out of these doors. I need to get engineering on this, or just do it myself. I can’t trust anyone on this damn ship to do anything right!” He spouted, walking over towards the child now in a 360 degree force field bubble. “You are a curious thing aren’t you. I respect that. This is an exceptionally dangerous place for anyone. Let alone a child!” He said tersely as he said, “Where are your parents? Who do I need to talk to about their young being in places that should be impossible to get to.”

Cerenity looked at the man and giggled as if it were a game. ” it was not that hard I followed one of the adults in when they opened the door not to mention there are Jeffrey’s tubes entrances and air vent entrances there and there she said pointing out alternate means of entering and exiting the lab. Mommy went to meet the captain and her boss she left me with a holographic babysitter, she locked the controls to him so I could not turn him off so I took apart the holoprojecters while he was making a snack. I wanted to explore the ship. I have never been off the Viking before” Cerenity said with a smile. She looked up at him with pretty blue eyes. And turned her head sideways.” Why are your ears so big? Your hearing must be really good? I wonder, can you hear this?” She opened her wings flapped them then closed them again. There was almost no sound. The slight rustle of feathers that most people would miss.

Lazol was fuming but the young one had a way of making him feel almost soft. “Child you must understand the way this ship is constructed. Deck 4, 11, 12, and 13 are all science labs, as such they are of the utmost security concern for this ship. The Jefferys tube that directly access these floors require a biometric lock with registered biological scans in the computer. There are tubes that bypass these decks or run through them” Lazol said pointing to a round corner of the room where the Jefferys system bypassed deck 4 “but if anyone were able to just enter through access tubes what would the point of making these secure sections? Besides the computer knows who everyone is and where everyone should be in my domain. As for the vents? These ducts are kept at a positive pressure and are on their own circulation system so that if something happens or something breaks out, we don’t risk contaminating the entire ship”

He paused and looked into those little blue eyes and heard her wings flutter, “Yes child it’s faint but I can hear it. I would love to study you…” He said as he snapped out of it. “I am a Ferengi, I’m guessing I’m the first that you’ve seen?” She was beginning to melt his anger away and Cerenity would be able to figure that out fairly quickly

” are you angry, I didn’t know I just wanted to learn about the ship and I like science. Mommy would note let me attend school on the Viking she said I had to be five before I could go to school it was too dangerous for me and now we are here and there are not schools on this ship or other children” she said her head dropping as if she might cry. But she recovered quickly to ask another question ” can you teach me more about Ferengi where do you come from what’s you “N-Native language” is that the right phrase?” She said.

” how do these things work?” she asked putting her hand out and touching the force field. She was curious she wanted to know everything. It was only then that she realized she was probably going to get into lots of trouble for this. ” are you going to tell mommy she is going to be so angry” cerenity whimpered finally starting to get upset.
Cerenity

“Child the bubble you’re currently in is a non threatening physical barrier of pure energy. There are emitters throughout all of the science sections to use in case of… a problem arising. I never thought I would need to trap a child in one but this is yet another reason I don’t believe in bringing one’s young onboard a starship!” He said as he thought for a moment. He didn’t have to respond when Surda responded.

Cerenity blinked not understand. ” my nave is Cerenity and I was born on a star ship the Viking to be more precise,” she said with a smile as if she was proud of knowing that information.

Surda stood across from Lazol, arms crossed. “Her mother is one of my officers.” She had caught that much before Cerentity ran away. “It was under control, DaiMon. If a child under my supervision concerns you so much, perhaps you ought to consider securing your labs better. I’d be happy to allocate some officers to help you.” By help, she meant they would try to break in. She turned to Cerenity and knelt down. “It’s dangerous for you to run around on your own. If DaiMon Lazol is satisfied with my supervision, you can come wait for your mother with me. She should be meeting with me soon.”

Lazol walked over towards a computer terminal and pulled up a few logs, “Under control? You call a child breaking into what should be one of the most secure parts of this ship and getting away from you under control?” He slammed his fist on the console and swore a rather impressive string of words that would make the Grand Nagus blush, “A diagnostic sweep. They scheduled a complete systems diagnostic sweep across the ship and didn’t think to let me know. Oh, I will be having a word with the Captain about this....” He walked towards Surda and took a deep breath and composed himself, “I apologize for my reactions Lieutenant, I know your team does the best work on this ship when it comes to keeping it safe, I just was not expecting any of this today, and am rather angry that my systems didn’t catch it. Do you have anyone you’d like to post to my sections? I’ll see to it that they have proper clearance for their jobs.” He turned to the child and said, “As for you....” He clicked his lips and walked into his office for a few moments before returning and showing it to the little girl. “This is a Rigelian Flamegem, deep blue like your eyes but if you hold it in a certain band of light it will sparkle from within like flames dancing. This is a very expensive thing so don’t lose it. It is a gift to you, and once you figure out how to make those flames dance, have your mother send me a message if you want to learn more. Believe it or not, I like you child, just not in my labs and not without my permission.” He handed the gem to Surda and said, “I’m going to lower the containment bubble and Surda will take you out of my labs and out of my domain. If I see you again here I will report this not only to your mother but the Captain as well.”

Surda raised an eyebrow. “That is very generous DaiMon.” She showed the gem to Cerenity absently as she continued speaking. “I appreciate your trust. I’ll send some officers down next shift.”

Cerenity looked at the Gem it was pretty. She smiled at Lazol deciding she like him she reached back to her wings pulling a feather from it. Her wings were white with black spots but the feathers she held in her hand was pure white and fluffy it was a down feather and was clearly getting ready to drop anyway. Much like birds Luna and cerenity lost feathers and regrow them from time to time. She held it out to Lazol. ” I like you too Mr. lazol here for you, for some reason people like mine and mommy’s feathers,” she said.

She thought for a moment. ” I would avoid my mommy if I were you she doesn’t like scientists she’s afraid of them for some reason,” Cerenity said. After Lazol had the feather she turned and left with the COS.
Cerenity

Surda dipped her head slightly as she left with the child, knowing Lazol was likely accustomed to Orion gestures. She stopped outside the door and turned to Cerenity. “My name is Surda. I’m the Chief of Security here.” She hadn’t quite thought this through. She didn’t interact with children very often, mostly for lack of opportunity.

” so your mommys boss and im in trouble aren’t i. ” cerenity asked looking at her feet. She did know better but she rarely listened to her mother. ” Mommy is going to be angry. But I’m a big girl I can take care of myself its not fair that I have to stay in are quarter wail mommy gets to run around the ship” She said quietly. She stomped her little foot. ” its not fare everyone treats me like a little kid but I can do more then other three year old can!” She complained in frustration. It was hard being a smart three year old and that doesn’t even include the fact that she also had wings.
Cerenity

Surda tilted her head curiously and looked at the child. “You aren’t in trouble. If no one explains the rules, then how are you supposed to know what the rules are? That said, you know you aren’t allowed in the science labs without DaiMon Lazol’s permission now, so if you break that rule you will be in trouble.” How old had she said she was? Three? That was plenty old. “We have a lot of rules on the Leviathan, and some of those include who is allowed to go where. There are places I’m not allowed to go.” She had started training around three. “If we go up to my office I’ll teach you some science.” Botany was still science, right?

” actually mommy said i could not Leave are qurters by myself” cerenity said dropping her head. ” mommy will be mad at me for not listening to her.” She added. Though at the mention of science cerenity purked right back up. She opened her wings jumped flapped her wings a few times then she was hovering at eye level with Surda. ” I love science mommy does not know much about science. She knows a lot about fighting. But she won’t teach me she is afraid ill get hurt” cerenity said quietly.
Cerenity

Surda nodded. “I know lots of different things. Maybe you can learn to fight when you’re older, but for now, I’ll teach you some botany.” She stared walking to the turbolift, slower than usual, but she expected the child to follow.

Cerenity had no issues keeping up” Botany is the study of plants right” she said she thought for a moment. ” plants are interesting because the turn sun light into energy using phot… Phat…photosynthesis” she said struggling with that word. ” a lot of them don’t have to eat anything except for ones like Veins fly trap they trap bugs in there pedals and digest them alive. That’s kinda scary. Do any plant like that exist that could eat and entirer person?” Cerenity said.
