(snip)Somewhere amongst the buttons and lights of the Valkyrja’s console, a single LED would begin to sing of an approaching vessel. Only moments later and the glorious hulk of the USS Leviathan dropped out of warp into the space high above them. Had they been able to see into the CIC at that moment then they would have been met by a most peculiar sight - almost every spare inch of the room, every unmanned station, every empty chair, every section of vacant floor, was covered by mountains of paper diagrams and schematics and blueprints. And in the centre of this chaos, clothed in dress uniform as if en-route to a grand and glorious occasion, was Captain Zachariah Cobb.
Casela couldn’t help but admire the awe inspiring sight of the Leviathan appearing out of nowhere, and taking up position between Valkyrja and the Breen ship.
“Towards thee I fly, unconquering and all-too-mortal enemy!” he roared, unleashed hair like the locks of Medusa around him. “To the last shall I grapple with thee! From Gre’thor’s heart shall I stab at thee! For the vengeance and the hatred of the entire world will I spit my last breath at thee! Sink all the laden torpedo casings to one common pool! And since neither can be mine, let me then tow to pieces, while still chasing thee, though tied to thee, thou damned and despicable Breen! Thus would I give up myself if I can take thee with me!”
- Captain Zachariah Cobb
On the small view screen on her console a hail would begin to blink and Casela opened to find McReady looking very defeated. =^=Counselor, now that we’re here and you are in one piece. Do you think you could talk the captain down?=^= And he moves to the side and Casela and Bog can not only hear but see the captain giving his speech amongst the clutter. Casela sighs. =^=McReady, put me through to the communication console on his chair.=^= From where Cobb sits promising to take the bloody Breen to the bowls of hell with him Casela’s face appears on the small viewscreen on the arm of his chair. =^=Captain....Zachariah Cobb! I’m NOT dead yet, and I’d like to stay that way. We made a promise in that holodeck, remember? Well today is not that day.=^=
On the bridge the tacticle officer would speak up. “Sir? The Breen ship....it’s chasing sensor decoys. And not even destroying them as they find them. They’re just wandering from one to the other. Seems like Shuttle Valkyrja deployed sensor decoys and the Breen are really confused by them.” This did not make sense to the tactical officer.
Several minutes later, as if just noticing the Leviathan, a hail is sent out. =^=This is the Breen Warship Dresna. You have destroyed a Breen scout ship. You will surrender.=^= And then directed specifically at Leviathan. =^=The might shuttle is ours. You may not have it. We will destroy you.=^= The voice is digitized.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNSOOC: Pasting Bog in
“It seems we have some rather welcome company, Miss Casela.” Came the HUI’s rather dry comment. “Shall I open a com Chanel?”Huey.
“Yes Alfred, but let’s just listen for now. Only direct comms to the Leviathan. No need to draw the attention of that ship back to us. It’s pretty occupied trying to figure out the decoys. Or chasing them back and forth anyway.”“Pakla” Bog grouped one word.
BogFor decades had he been patient, the aged withering of his intellect kept at bay by continual acumination of his plans. This moment he had mentally choreographed down to a breath, the adrenaline rush of delayed vengeance a potent fuel to this old man’s anger. And there, in the centre of the bridge, it had all conspired to culminate in the most grand and glorious moment with he the magnificent and all-conquering hero…
One sentence was all it had taken to turn this intricately-crafted occasion to ash. As first the voice of Lt Synthi-er and then the tones of his tactical officer broke the waves of his crescendo, their curious descriptions of this Breen ship saw the mighty Cobb cast for all the world as the Fool.
“Know thy self, know thy enemy. A thousand battles, a thousand victories,” he whispered as the last tendrils of sunlight set on this battlefield. Then, turning to the tactical station he cleared his throat and added, “Either the years, or the isolation from the rest of their battalion, has weakened them, or they are not who they claim to be at all.”When the threat eventually came, it barely even registered against the scourge of his own disappointment. With an apathetic shrug he replied,
=^= And this is the USS Leviathan. And we both know that your ship would be decimated in a second if we charged even a tenth of our weapons array. Technology has advanced greatly since the days of the Dominion and you can’t even pretend to be a match for the starships of the day. So why don’t you stop the bloody posturing and tell me who you really are and what the hell you’re doing in this area, eh? =^=
- Captain Zachariah Cobb
In response came the digitized voice again, =^=This is the Breen Warship Dresna. You will surrender. =^= And then there was unmistakable alert of ship’s phasers firing at the Leviathan’s front hull. Then came a very child like voice =^=You have stolen the might shuttle from us. Give it back to us!=^= The Breen ship began a slow turn back around to take up a position facing the Leviathan.
Casela raised a brow, “That doesn’t sound like some thing a Breen soldier would say. Bog can we detonate those decoys? Distract them or damage them just a little?”
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS“That is because they are Polka, or I’m a Vulcan. Dummest scavengers in the Galaxy they are.” Chuckled Bog. “Send a tight beam to Leviathan and inform them of the same , Huey then dial up a Klingon warbird squawking the ghost busters theme as IFF.” Turning to the Counselor, “How good are you at playing poker?”
Bog the amused
Casela could not picture ANY Klingon going for the ghost busters…and there was something about it that Bog was attached to. She supposed she’d need to watch the films at some point. It might give her some insight into the Tellarite engineer. At his question, Casela turned her head very slowly and stared at him. “What do you think?” She was actually insulted that time.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS
“If I am right, and I know I am I am counting on your bluff and Huey laying down a good version of you as a Klingon to scare them back to the hells that sooner them!” The disturbing grin “I am counting on our Captain to recognize our IFF from our resent adventures.”
