Shuttle Bay - Operations Chief Arrives - <TAG Stores>

<snip>

As they arrived, Hammor walked onto the Quarter Master’s office. The office was guilty with plates of half eaten food, various PaDDs, and more than a few bits and pieces of ‘things’ scattered about. Seeing the big green figure, the Quarter Master, a Lieutenant JG, looked up and said “Yeah? What?” in his typical gruff manner. Hammor cocked his head to the side and a smile briefly crossed his features. “Ah, you are the Quarter Master. I’m Lieutenant Hammor, the Chief Operations Officer. And I’d like you to tell me why the Ensign here is doing your job for you?”

The man’s eyes narrowed and he said “New..? Wait a minute… Nobody said nuthin’ ‘bout a new Ops Chief! When the h-” and a loud whistle from the Lieutenant cut him off. In a calm and professional tone, Hammor said “I was ordered here a month ago. I have been on this ship less than twenty minutes and I can already tell we have a lot of work to do.” And he turned and looked at Reed. “You are to no longer fill in for the Quarter Master, Mr. Reed. I appreciate you picking up where needed, though. Shows solid initiative. I’m hoping you might show a bit more and get me a PaDD with all incoming supplies and estimated delivery times, all current on-ship stores, a list of all assigned and unoccupied rooms, crew roster, and any outstanding supply orders yet to be filled. You and I are going to make this cluster more organized and more efficient. And we are going to do that now.” and he turned back to the Quarter Master. “You will stand there -” and he pointed to a corner of the messy office, “- and watch us work. When we are done, you will duplicate everything we have done. If you can’t, then the Ensign here gets your job and you get to go to a supply and repair vessel somewhere near DS Eleven. Now up. Mr. Reed and I have a ship to supply the right way.” and he moved around the desk and took the quickly vacated seat. As he did, he looked at Reed and winked conspiratorially.

Hammor, Ops Chief (Who Hates Working Harder, Not Smarter)

Stores didn’t even know the quarters master was aboard, he just fell right in to his accustom role as a civilian Supercargo and went to work, the ship came first.
Keying his com to call for a PPAD, then thinking twice about showing off now, Stores stepped over and ordered a PPAD from the office replicator, glad that his back was to the room he was able to let his smile show. pulling up and down loading the required information. Most he already had in his own files but for an incomplete crew roster and assigned quarters. He had simply hacked the Quartermasters files for that.

After a few minuets manipulating his virtual interface, he simply stepped over and handed the new boss the PPAD, his eyes wet with superseded humor. He stepped back and came to his best imitation of attention to wait for the rest of the show to begin.

Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo.

Daggum took the PaDD and reviewed it, and after about a minute shook his head. “This is just about the absolute biggest cluster of chaos I have ever seen. Look, you have food stores and perishables coming in right before spare power couplings and backup systems interface modules. Know what that does? Keeps the cargo carriers bringing those industrial components waiting while we scan each piece of food and other assorteds looking for contamination… then wait some more as we move that stuff into cold storage and isolate what goes where with the other perishables. We could literally land the couplings and modules, tag ‘em, and have them off the deck inside of an hour. Now? Now you have these things waiting four to six… minimum. Honestly…” and he looked back at the Quarter Master, “… are you messing with me? This is some kind of joke, right? I mean… I’ve seen Cadets move kit around better than this.” and he shook his head. He tapped some commands into the PaDD and looked at Reed. “Changed the arrival order for the industrial components. They’ll be priority. Get ‘em on, get ‘em tagged, get ‘em stored. After that, let’s clear the bay as much as we can and set aside space closest to the freight movers so the cold stores can be loaded into the coolers immediaty after clear by Science. Once that’s done, you and I will meet back here. Oh, one more thing…” and he tapped the PaDD, scowled, glared at the Quarter Master, and then swept the desk clear with one massive arm sending the trash and scattered bits crashing to the floor. He tapped the interface in the desk and then said to Reed “All room assignments for all scheduled new crew is uploaded into the computer and room assignments are automatic. No more having to pull rooms and look. And Security will do credential activating from here on. We handle our stuff, they handle theirs. Everyone wins.”
