As the Dresden sat motionless in its berth high above Earth, the shuttle Concorde entered the bay and settled to the deck. A few minutes passed as the shuttle powered down and the pilots and passengers made ready to leave its confines.

As the door opened, a few crew exited coming back from shore leave, and then out stepped an Orion. Not just any Orion. He was almost seven feet tall and was muscled and then some. If one looked closely, there was some kind of burn scar on both side of his neck, barely peeking up above the collar of his gold uniform’s collar.

As he stood up from being hunched over to get through the shuttle hatch, he stretched a bit and rolled his shoulders forward and back. Unlike most of the crew, he wasnt coming from Earth. He had spent the past month shuttling from station to station, ship to ship, to get him back to here to take on his next posting… Chief Operations Officer. He last posting, the deep space research ship Manhattan, had him in the Delta Quadrant. And even with the recently discovered stable wormhole, the trip back was lengthy.

Daggum looked around and nodded to himself. He lifted the bag he carried and went to the Operations and Security officers on duty. “Hey. I’m Lieutenant Hammor, new Ops Chief. I need to check in and I’d appreciate it if someone could tell me how to get to my quarters?” he asked in a friendly and informal tone.

Hammor, Ops

OOC: I love Orions. Tee hee.

-Harley

IC: The security officer on duty, NE Chaplin eyed the jolly green giant up and down. “Another one?” he asked to no one. “Seems the quarter master hasn’t quite made it back from shore leave. You’ll want to talk to Stores… uh, Ensign Reed. He’s sort of been directing all the ‘lost souls’ coming aboard.” He gave the Orion a wink before yelling throughout the shuttlebay. “Hey, yo Stores! You around?”

-NE Chaplin, SEC

In fact wasn’t in the shuttle bay, but was assisting the transporter Officer Manning the cargo transporters, but one of the Hands working the bay called him to let him know.

=^= Be there in few, Buddy. What’s up =^= Stores replied over coms as he walked back toward the main shuttle bay. One has to love the Bolians he thought as he walked. I will always know where that particular young man is

=/\=Yeah hey Stores it’s NE Chaplin. I’ve got a vision in emerald here looking for his quarters, or in other words, this Orion’s lost. Think you can help him out?=/\=

NE Chaplin regarded the Hulk with hungry eyes. “If this doesn’t work out, you can always bunk with me,” he said with a twitch of his prominent ‘stache.’

-NE Chaplin, SEC

Hammor looked at Chaplain and chuckled and said “Appreciate the offer, Ensign. But you humans are just so… breakable.” and he adjusted the bag and nodded. “I’ll find my way around. Thanks. Have a good day.” and he sauntered off towards the door.

Hammor, Ops

“I’m a mustang. No one’s managed to break me yet. Welcome aboard!” He knew a lost cause when he saw one. “See ya later, Shrek.”

-NE Chaplin

=^=Send him my way and I’ll see he gets squared away=^= Stores was already bringing up the crew roster looking for a new Orion, as the transporter room door closed and he started aft to the shuttle bay. Starting to think they are changing out half the crew as he found one lieutenant Daggum Hammor, Ops.

As fate would have it, a big… really big… Orion in a gold uniform came around the corner of the passageway as he finished with his comm. He was carrying a large black bag in one hand.

Hammor, Ops Chief

Stoping short, Damn!” the tall middle aged man with a dad bod, looked up at the Orion, “Is it safe to assume your Lieutenant Hammor? He couldn’t look more out of place on the Dresden, wearing Merchant Marine tan overalls over a brown Eva compression suit and mag-boots. He even had a heavy pair of gloves clipped to a loop on his overalls.

“If I can see your orders sir, I will get you your berthing assignment and make sure the Dres recognizes you as crew” the rap around glasses didn’t make him look any more like a Star Fleet engineer than did the com badge and bulging pockets. As he stood their with his hand out expectantly.

Hammer looked at him with a confused expression. “Um, yes. I’m Lieutenant Hammor. Standard protocol is that Security does the authorizaton… Mr. Reed, isn’t it? Any reason they aren’t handling check- ins and verifications?” he asked, not in an accusatory fashion, but in simple confusion as to why the Dresden operated different than… well… every other ship in the fleet.

Hammor, Ops Chief
“Stores sir, at least that’s what most folks call me.”

“ We are about three quarters into a ninety day refit, and Other than the stay behind crew folks are still on leave. I’m switch hitting for the Quarters Master. For anything other than berth assignments, replicator access and common spaces you’ll have to find some one with a higher pay grade, sir.” After a pause, “ technically I think the Dresden still belongs to star-base one under Commander Miller.” Taping a few illusionary keys, “Yep I’m right, but they have bumped up our refuel, reload and restock Schedule as of Captain Holloway’s assignment as Captain.” Standing firm,” I am busier than a two peckered billy goat Sir, now if you like I can contact Commander Miller and help you figure out what we need to do, but I imagine he will want me to transmit a copy of your orders and biometrics.”

Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo

OOC: Careful with colorful language. PG13 rating.

IC: Hammor looked at the man as he spoke. It was still so very confusing. The Quarter Master? The position reported directly to Hammor anyway as the Chief if Operations. With him in transit, why wasnt the Quarter Master using the scheduling protocols to have rooms assigned automatically? And where was Security? Leave or not, they still had to have a presence on the ship and should be assigning credentials. Why was this man out of uniform while on duty? He shook his head again and the big Orion simply said “Let’s you and I go to the Quarter Master’s desk, shall we? I’d… like a word. We can sort the rest out later.” His tone wasnt harsh, but it was obvious he was less than pleased at the first impression of the ship.

Hammor, Ops

With a tired sigh, “Yes Sir, anything to help.” Knowing that the area around the Quartermasters office was still undergoing “janitorial” but he lead the new lieutenant to the turbo-lift. Waiting patiently as the lift took them to their destination, Stores checked to see how loading was going. He still had reports to write, and what ever was going on here was above his pay grade.

As they arrived, Hammor walked onto the Quarter Master’s office. The office was guilty with plates of half eaten food, various PaDDs, and more than a few bits and pieces of ‘things’ scattered about. Seeing the big green figure, the Quarter Master, a Lieutenant JG, looked up and said “Yeah? What?” in his typical gruff manner. Hammor cocked his head to the side and a smile briefly crossed his features. “Ah, you are the Quarter Master. I’m Lieutenant Hammor, the Chief Operations Officer. And I’d like you to tell me why the Ensign here is doing your job for you?”

The man’s eyes narrowed and he said “New..? Wait a minute… Nobody said nuthin’ ‘bout a new Ops Chief! When the h-” and a loud whistle from the Lieutenant cut him off. In a calm and professional tone, Hammor said “I was ordered here a month ago. I have been on this ship less than twenty minutes and I can already tell we have a lot of work to do.” And he turned and looked at Reed. “You are to no longer fill in for the Quarter Master, Mr. Reed. I appreciate you picking up where needed, though. Shows solid initiative. I’m hoping you might show a bit more and get me a PaDD with all incoming supplies and estimated delivery times, all current on-ship stores, a list of all assigned and unoccupied rooms, crew roster, and any outstanding supply orders yet to be filled. You and I are going to make this cluster more organized and more efficient. And we are going to do that now.” and he turned back to the Quarter Master. “You will stand there -” and he pointed to a corner of the messy office, “- and watch us work. When we are done, you will duplicate everything we have done. If you can’t, then the Ensign here gets your job and you get to go to a supply and repair vessel somewhere near DS Eleven. Now up. Mr. Reed and I have a ship to supply the right way.” and he moved around the desk and took the quickly vacated seat. As he did, he looked at Reed and winked conspiratorially.
