Buddy's Quarters - Home Sweet Home
Thanks to the help of Ensign Reed, Buddy now had a place to stow his stuff. He stepped inside the small, but thankfully private, quarters. He threw his bag unceremoniously on the bunk and flipped open the monitor at his personal work space. He synched the PaDD to his work station and immediately a notification pinged. An incoming message flashed on the screen.
Figuring it was from one or both of his parents he opened the email and began playing the message. But the image was not either of his parents.
“Hey Buddy!” The face was that of Jerry Miles Davis the lead guitarist from Buddy and the Breen. It had been sometime since he had seen his friend and Buddy couldn’t help but feel very happy to see his former band mate. “Listen, Dude, you will never believe what’s been happening. A holo-depiction of our last show at the Turtle Head Tavern has been making the rounds. It’s actually got a pretty good cult following. Looks like we are just as popular off Earth as we were in Cisco.”
Buddy wasn’t sure were this was going or even if he was buying into it. “Our cover of Autopilot<-i> has made the Bolian Hot 100!” That would explain the seemingly random coincidence of his Bolian traveling companion. Buddy hadn’t realized it was their cover the man had been listening to. “Anyway, I’m talking with the other guys and we think this would be a perfect time for a galactic tour. Please say you will do it! Get back at me soon, bro.” His friend threw up devil horns and gave a shout before ending the recording.
‘A tour? Really?’ Buddy thought there was no way this was anything but a joke. Even if he was inclined to give up his dream of serving in Starfleet they were contracted. They couldn’t just leave before their service was up. Sure he missed the music and the performing but Starfleet was a career choice, not something to do in case his music career didn’t take off. The guys would be upset, but they would just have to get over it.
He closed the monitor and got up. There would be time to send a response later. For now, it was time for chow. He left to meet Ensign Reed in the Mess.
