Hsull reached down and gently unwrapped the leash from around the legs of Fuzzy’s new friend. “Is there anyplace in particular you’re interested in, or are you just out for a whatever discovery tour........, and oh by the way, you don’t drink coffee do you ?” The Savannah was now sitting quietly by Hsull’s side and looking expectantly at her new found friend. “My past experience has been mostly with small craft tactics, especially fighters, but I have had some experience with larger craft. How about yourself ?” Hsull gave the cat a light rub over the head and down her back with his claws barely exposed, she seemed to really enjoy this for some reason.Hsull - CTO
Relieved to have the furry creature removed, she could finally focus on talking to her new acquaintance. “Not particularly, I was simply just perusing for the moment.. and no, I prefer tea to coffee.” T’Laith began, beginning to continue her walk down the hallway, “My last ship was a light escort vessel, the USS Austere. I have no experience with fighters, however I did spend five years on a Vulcan D’Kyr class, the VEF Spyss, as a Junior Helms Officer before I joined Starfleet.” she paused, turning the conversation back to the Caitian, “You say you have experience with small craft and fighters, do you fly much yourself?”

Hsull walked beside the new Helms Officer, matching his pace to hers, the Savannah continued to explore to the limits of retractable leash. “Alas I don’t get to fly as much as I would like to. The Dresden has no fighter compliment, just the Marine CO’s personal fighter, which I haven’t got the nerve up yet ask to take it out. I try to keep my hand in with simulations and assorted small craft piloting.” Hsull figured he didn’t need to go into the ramming the alien ship and the resulting near year of rehab. “You mentioned tea and my coffee is low, lets find a replicator and fix that situation.” He walked on, the coffee mug secure in one hand and the cane absently tucked under his arm.

“Perhaps it would be beneficial for us to run some simulations together in the near future, it may help us gauge our collective skill.” T’Laith shared, supposedly speaking aloud. “Please,” she responded, indicating her contentment for Hsull to lead on towards a replicator, appeased that there is someone to help navigate the halls of the ship.

As they were in the area where crew quarters were located Hsull suggested, “Why don’t we swing by my quarters, they’re close, and I can drop off the cat, and we can remedy the tea and coffee situation ?” Hsull continued on down the passageway with the Savannah now trotting at his side. “I’d really like to run some simulations together. We could use one of the holo-suites, and program in various situations we might run into and also could look at situations that other ships have run into. Should be interesting.” Hsull looked back to see where T’Laith was and listen to her ideas also.

T’Laith followed Hsull down the corridors, “Of course.” she responded quickly, “I agree, it would be quite interesting to see how we both perform.” she exclaimed, eager to gain some relativity of experience flying a dreadnought. Throughout the journey her eyes flickered from Hsull to the ‘cat’ as they continued on their way to his quarters, “I must say, I find it unusual that a Warrant Officer would find themselves as part of the bridge crew. If I may ask, how did you manage this?” she inquired, noticing the insignia on Hsulls uniform.

Hsull considered a moment before answering. “That’s a bit of a long story, I’ve been flying fighters ever since I was a youngster on Cait. A friend of our family had a freighting business and had acquired two older fighters in some sort of trade. He taught me the basics and let me take one up whenever I could manage the time. I was always good at solving problems and at the Academy my natural path was to study tactics and strategy, primarily for fighters but also took the required courses for larger ship tactics as well. I was a bit of a wild one when I was younger and also had a pretty quick temper, as a result I lost my initial commission, but they let me stay on as enlisted and as time progressed I moved up the ranks and applied for the Warrant Officer program, things went well and I continued to study and improve my knowledge of tactics and strategy, during my time in rehab I was promoted to my current rank and due to the fact the Dresden had no Tactical officer and I was up for transfer back to regular duty, we meshed and here I am. Actually Warrant Officers above CWO2 are commissioned, I hope to make CWO5 before I retire, but that’ll be a while.” They had reached Hsull’s quarters and he took the harness and leash off the cat, who promptly leapt to the top of the bookshelves in the living area, to look down on her domain. Hsull headed for the replicator, “What type of tea do you prefer ?” He busied himself rinsing his coffee mug and tidying up a bit. “So Lt. now that you know about me, how did you come to be assigned to the Dresden ?”

“Interesting, it’s never too late to learn new things it seems.” she responded, slightly impressed as Hsull’s experiences. “Plomeek Tea, Sweet if you will.” she requested, looking at the cat now on the bookshelf, fascinating she thought to herself. Soon, the conversation turned on her, she walked slightly closer in from the door: “I came from the USS Austere, a light escort ship. The warp-core failed and was temporarily decommissioned..” she paused, perhaps remembering her old acquaintances, “Before Starfleet however I was a navigation officer for the VEF Spyss for five years. Then moving onto Starfleet I attended the satellite campus in London to train on Starfleet helm systems and basic security. ” she explained, not wishing to over-sell herself or boast.“Throughout the two years on the Austere, I had completed twenty-three missions and was promoted along with the transfer due to my previous experiences with the Vulcan Expeditionary Force.” she added. “Does this mean you pilot fighter-craft along being a part of the bridge crew?” enquired T’Laith.

Hsull turned from the replicator where he had just made the requested order for tea and his own mug of Forgraves brew, double cream, no sugar. “I would be piloting fighters if the Dresden carried a complement of them, but unfortunately all we have is Col. Harris’s personal fighter, so I do simulations as often as I can to keep my hand in, so to speak.” The tea and coffee had appeared and Hsull set the tea down on the small table which was near T’Laith, he sipped from his mug. The Savannah had jumped down and was now curled neatly on the small sofa, expecting Hsull to join her. “You may have noticed I don’t have the normal fifth appendage that Caitians normally have.” he turned and showed T’Laith that he lacked the prehensile tail that nearly all Caitians possessed. “It’s a birth defect and at first it used to bother me, but I soon realized it was actually an advantage as I didn’t have to worry about where to put it in the confines of an exposure suit.” Hsull gave his version of a smile which really only displayed his impressive dentistry. “It seems we both have a wealth of experiences in different areas, navigation, piloting, tactics, security, I’m sure we will both benefit from that.” Another sip of coffee, “The thing about fighters is that it’s just you out there, you’re not having to consider how your maneuvers or reactions will affect others. Oh sure, you have to consider your wingman and squadron mates but it’s really just you and that that small, fast, deadly little ship. If we ever have the opportunity I would love to take you out in a two seat trainer and let you experience it for yourself.” The Savannah gave a ‘churring’ sound and moved to rub against T’Laith’s legs. “Yep, she definitely like you.” Hsull intoned as he sipped his coffee.

Throughout their entire conversation so far, T’Laith was particularly appeased to learn that her fellow bridge officer was experienced and, most surprisingly, tolerable. “That would be a considerable advantage,” she responded firstly, responding to his missing limb. She slowly reached out her hand to let the animal sniff it, surprised at her friendliness. “You become acquainted with the difficulties and morality of your actions after a while, particularly when it is amplified by having to protect an entire crew compliment,” she stated, then picking up the Plomeek tea and taking a sip, “However,” she briefly paused, still with tea in her hand, “I have never had the experience of flying a fighter craft, that would be an opportunity I simply wouldn’t pass up.” she responded, interested in seeing how a fighter would fly.
Still standing a little ways in from the doorway, T’Laith cradled the tea in her hands, continuing to take sips, unsure of what to bring up next..
