Katelyn’s only response at first was to offer a silent nod as her eyes were caught by the movement of the box in M’Resh’s hand. The sides of her lips twisted up into a smirk as she finally commented, “have you seen the size of this beast? It’s certainly complex.” She sat up and gestured around her ready room as if to emphasize the point and then waved a hand at the nearby door to CIC with a hint of disgust creeping across her features. She quickly grew more serious, however, and returned her focus on her new CSO. “Well… I feel like we should be toasting to the end of stagnation, but frankly, I could use a bit in my life.” The Caitian’s willingness to share had forced the small personal detail out of the otherwise stiffly-walled woman.

Raal smiled. “Well, I’m not your CSO yet!” He stood up and walked over to her replicator, “So if you’ll excuse the audacity of your scientific advisorr…” He tapped a few of the keys. “Two flutes of champagne. Chateau Picarrd. 2385.” As the glasses fizzed into existence he picked them up and turned to her. “Rreally, I don’t know anything about wine orr vintages. But, rrecently this…” he slid one of the glasses across to the captain. “…is what Starrfleet ships rreplicatorrs seem to have on file lately. Personally, I prreferr cocktails.” He sat and scooted the chair closer to the desk. He raised his glass with a very serious look on his face, bordering on grim. “To stagnation.” As he spoke a smirk broke the facade of his dour expression.

Katelyn watched M’resh as he moved across the floor of her ready room and nearly audibly groaned when he returned with the bubbly concoction. To say that she preferred cocktails was an understatement; the Betazoid could barely stand the sweet bubbly grape juice. As she clinked her glass to his, she smirked back at him and took a small sip, trying to keep the wince off her face as she felt the carbonation in her nose. “Now you’re official,” she commented with a grin as she set the glass down. “But no matter how welcoming I’d like to be, I’m not drinking any more of that vile liquid. No offense.”
