“Magic,” she responded, dryly, waiting a few beats before continuing. “You forget that I’m rather highly connected in the intelligence community after my two… field trips… with opposition forces.” Her tone turned slightly harsh as she referred to the two abductions she had suffered as CO of the Olympic and the Atlantis. “So I’ll take that as your agreement, Captain,” she responded, forcing her tone to lighten again and adopt a slight snarkiness as she used his Starfleet rank.

Ryley sipped. “And how are the Romulan these days?” He asked nonchalantly as though he was asking how the weather on Vulcan was. If it stung so be it. If not? Well that would be interesting. “Ryley… Alexx, Doctor or Doc if you must. But don’t call me that again.” He said, his tone gruff as he rolled his eyes and finished his bottle. He considered the dulled pain and came to one simple conclusion, he was drunk.

Behind them the Klingon pair seemed to be getting bored with sitting waiting for Ryley to leave. The bearded , shaggy looking older man gave Jacobs a look. “Time to go I think.” He said casually and grabbing his staff stood, staggered and caught himself.

Katelyn’s face had darkened slightly at the mention of the Romulans, but she smiled pleasantly at Ryley as he grumbled about his rank. “It’s just a reminder that I still outrank you, Ryley, even with all of those shiny pips I’ve never seen you wear” she shot back, a grin lighting up her face and dark eyes. As Ryley got to his feet and stumbled, her reflexes took over and she again shot a hand out to steady him, avoiding his injured shoulder this time. “See, aren’t you glad I’m here? It seems like you need a bodyguard. But, that said, we don’t have to walk…” She looked down at the communicator badge peeking out again from behind her jacket and then expectantly at the doctor.
