MJ looked at the room appraisingly. It was not the largest of the unused compartments he’d scouted, but it was still plenty big. It could easily seat 30-50 people without being crowded. It was roughly rectangular in shape, but the outer bulkhead was curved as it was close to the edge of the ship. Large utility ducts took up both of the corners of that wall. Ensign Shau pulled up his PADD to look at what was above them on Deck 5. Ah… those are power taps for Phaser Cannon number 1. That explains why this space is marked as ‘reserved for future expansion.’
The Mjolnir-class was a dedicated warship, and it needed to be ready to take advantage of future technological developments. The Security Officer pulled up the schedule for the compartment and saw no planned uses in the current maintenance plan. He knew that could change as technology or operational necessity dictated. We can always move if the space is needed at a later date. None of the changes we make will be permanent.
MJ’s only experience was with a small group of friends crammed into one of their living spaces to watch holo-dramas. After talking to Skye… they wanted these new movie nights to have the potential to be much bigger and more inclusive. He looked around the space… picturing what it might look like. A large flat screen on that outer wall between the columns. Comfortable seating in rows… or maybe at uneven angles. Plenty of space in the back for refreshments and Skye’s lemonade stand. The Risian chuckled at the thought. _ We could even add some tables and chairs in the back for people who prefer to watch that way._
It was probably the best option they had at the moment, given its size and the likelihood of their being approved to use it. _ It’s mostly holodecks and suites on Deck Six… so one more recreational space wouldn’t really hurt, would it?_
He typed it into the pad as their number one option and then tapped his combadge. =/\=”Shau to Shepherd. Skye… I think I have a decent option. Can you meet me in the forward section of Deck 6? Past Holodecks 1 and 2.”
He knew the Science Officer would want to look at the space for herself, but he also didn’t want to waste any time putting the request in. =/\=”Computer, locate Lieutenant Nathan Hawthorne.”

Uss ChimeraSkye happened to be entertained stacking several files within one of the LCAR panels mounted on the wall when her badge emitted a familiar chirp. Seeing her reflection against clear titanium, the hybrid answered, her voice somewhat hoarse and awkward while spending time at the biology lab on her own. Usually, she want one individual intended for conversations, but finding someone who understood on a surface level that they had been sailing the same passage appeared to be much less daunting.
Reaching up with a hand to spare, the ensign took it upon herself to press that badge pinned against the blue fabric. With her throat now clean from any nervous actions, ensign Shepherd’s lips parted ways. =/\= “Acknowledged, I’ll be heading up in a few minutes. “=/\= her eyes turn d immediately towards a lower corner of the console’s display, noticing it was 10 minutes past the time they had agreed on meeting up. =/\= “Scratch that, I’m on my way.” =/\= She immediately stood up from the stainless stool before rushing towards the door.
Dashing down the hallway before crashing against a junior officer dressed in red. Both of them fumbled in a knot of arms and legs that flailed in the air before tumbling against carpeted decking. When looking at him through hazy eyes, the hybrid was able to recognize
that one German shepherd looking Canidin belonging to her academy generation. He who had lost his right arm to a training accident throughout their last year before graduation. He held a titanium paw out to help her stand, an amused look crossing his face. Skye was about to apologize profusely, when he landed ‘the look’ against the Trill hybrid. She stood up before both of them laughed awkwardly, walking one past the other. She continued her way, now embarrassed about the whole situation they had just witnessed.
The ensign literally sprinted like a racehorse down that tunnel, no senior officer holding her back. She reached both doors leading to the turbolift, her breathing somewhat heavy. “Deck 6.” Shepherd’s voice was slightly hoarse and raspy yet loud enough for the computer to register the command.

U.S.S. Chimera - 98730 (Mjolnir Class)MJ waited out in the corridor for Skye to arrive, afraid she wouldn’t find the location. He’d been nearby a dozen times since he’d been onboard without giving it a second thought. It was just one of many unused spaces onboard the Chimera
“Over here.” He said, waiving her down when he saw her at the intersection. When the human/trill hybrid arrived, he didn’t say much… he wanted her to make her own first impression before he said anything. He nodded toward the door and then followed her in. He stood toward the back and watched her expression.

Getting off the turbolift, she began trotting down the hall before hearing the Risian’s familiar voice. Once Skye reached the entryway, there was a halt to her pace. Head snapping down to every corner of the room before landing on that familiar face. A couple of steps she walked forward before stopping by the middle of that empty space.
She waved her hand slightly in the air before greeting the security officer with a slight smile once the ensign had an opportunity to approach. Her imagination slowly starting to map out how this would be working. Yet, Shepherd wasn’t one skilled with modern Federation technology, that’s where she would be required to ask for a helping hand. “So this is where the magic will happen, yes?” There was a curious connotation at the end of the hybrid’s sentence.

U.S.S. Chimera - 98730 (Mjolnir Class)“Thats the theory, yes,” MJ replied with a faint smile. “It seems to have the best combination of features… notably a suitable layout and being unimportant enough to have a chance at getting approved.”
The Risian looked around again… picturing the layout in his mind. There might even be enough space for a kitchen, if they wanted to go that route. It just depends on how many people we think were planning for.
“The new Operations Officer is on the bridge… I’m going to go submit the request to him, if you’re okay with it. The other options are either much smaller, or essentially an auxiliary cargo bay, and that one does get used from time to time.”

Skye nodded slowly, her reaction being pensive on how to utilize this now empty space and occupy every inch available if possible. “Well, we wouldn’t be taking a chance at reviving a tradition used since Captain Archer’s Enterprise.” There was some slight laughter from the hybrid, shifting her head towards a small viewport at the end of the room. Small streaks of light passing through.
If they were lucky, perhaps a replicator could’ve been fitted against that corner. Just barely large enough for the machine to be bolted against that wall. That room happened to be large enough to fit 50 to 60 people if the theater ever gained enough attention. After a lost battle with technology, she couldn’t help but leave the layout designs to engineering and observe from afar.
Once he broke the silence, she turned her body towards him and listened intently. Once MJ mentioned the new operations officer whom had just joined the crew a few weeks earlier was the moment her blue-gray eyes narrowed in suspicion. Wasn’t that supposed to be a question for a senior officer? or perhaps the ensign happened to be heavily mistaken. “Sounds good to me, but the operations officer?”

U.S.S. Chimera - 98730 (Mjolnir Class)MJ shrugged. “Operations Managers handle the allocation of spaces, resources, and system access. It seemed like a natural place to start. Although, given the semi-permanent nature of our request, I’m sure they’ll route it up the chain for higher level approval.”
He took one last look around the unused space. “Any concerns, or should we head up to the bridge?”
Ensign MJ Shau - Security Officer - USS Chimera
Her gaze was one filled with mostly confusion before she started awkwardly laughing. Skye’s hand swatting the air as though killing flies, though they wouldn’t be found onboard a Federation starship so deep in the vast unknown. Blue eyes scanned the space, but their interaction happened to be so awkward that she couldn’t help herself. “It might be taken to the department heads if necessary, something we won’t have to worry about for the time being.” the admission sounded so serious it was hard to articulate each word.
Instead, the hybrid stepped out into the hallway to clear her thoughts before he answered with a follow up question. Holding the PADD up, Shepherd took notice from the time. “Perhaps we should start heading back to the bridge before senior officers start questioning our current status.”

OOC: Oh, I didn’t catch it earlier. Nathan said he was on the Bridge, but we have a CIC (for the CO and crew) and a Flag Bridge (Admiral and staff). I’ll assume that he is in CIC.
