Early Life

Born in York, England, in 2388, Nathan Hawthorne developed a fascination with flight from an early age. Growing up beneath the busy traffic lanes connecting Earth’s orbital facilities, he spent countless hours watching shuttles and transports streak across the sky. His father worked as a civilian shuttle pilot while his mother was an aerospace systems engineer, fostering his passion for aviation and spacecraft.

Nathan excelled in flight simulators and grav-racing leagues throughout his youth, earning a reputation for exceptional reflexes and an instinctive understanding of flight dynamics. While many expected him to pursue a civilian career, Nathan dreamed of flying among the stars and chose to join Starfleet.

Starfleet Academy

Nathan entered Starfleet Academy in 2406, specializing in Flight Control Operations. His instructors quickly recognized his natural talent, and he consistently ranked among the Academy’s best pilots.

During his third year he volunteered for the prestigious Advanced Tactical Flight Training Program, qualifying to fly Starfleet tactical craft, including Valkyrie-class fighters and advanced shuttlecraft. He became known for his calm demeanor under pressure and his ability to think several moves ahead during simulated combat exercises.

Graduating with honours in 2410, Nathan received commendations for excellence in navigation, precision flying, and emergency response.

Starfleet Career

Nathan’s first assignment was as an Assistant Flight Control Officer aboard a fast-response starship, where he quickly proved himself during rescue operations, humanitarian missions, and hazardous navigational assignments.

Recognizing his exceptional piloting skills, Starfleet certified him as a tactical fighter pilot, allowing him to serve in both conventional flight control and aerospace combat operations when required.

Following several successful assignments, Nathan was transferred to the USS Chimera, where he now serves as the ship’s Chief Helmsman. At the conn, he is responsible for navigating the vessel through everything from routine exploratory missions to high-risk tactical engagements. Though qualified for combat sorties, Nathan believes Starfleet’s greatest victories come through exploration, diplomacy, and bringing crews home safely.

Personality

Nathan is confident, disciplined, and approachable. While he enjoys friendly competition with fellow pilots, he never lets ego interfere with the safety of his crew. At the helm he is intensely focused, capable of making split-second decisions under immense pressure.
