MJ looked at the room appraisingly. It was not the largest of the unused compartments he’d scouted, but it was still plenty big. It could easily seat 30-50 people without being crowded.

It was roughly rectangular in shape, but the outer bulkhead was curved as it was close to the edge of the ship. Large utility ducts took up both of the corners of that wall. Ensign Shau pulled up his PADD to look at what was above them on Deck 5. Ah… those are power taps for Phaser Cannon number 1. That explains why this space is marked as ‘reserved for future expansion.’

The Mjolnir-class was a dedicated warship, and it needed to be ready to take advantage of future technological developments. The Security Officer pulled up the schedule for the compartment and saw no planned uses in the current maintenance plan. He knew that could change as technology or operational necessity dictated. We can always move if the space is needed at a later date. None of the changes we make will be permanent.

MJ’s only experience was with a small group of friends crammed into one of their living spaces to watch holo-dramas. After talking to Skye… they wanted these new movie nights to have the potential to be much bigger and more inclusive. He looked around the space… picturing what it might look like. A large flat screen on that outer wall between the columns. Comfortable seating in rows… or maybe at uneven angles. Plenty of space in the back for refreshments and Skye’s lemonade stand. The Risian chuckled at the thought. _ We could even add some tables and chairs in the back for people who prefer to watch that way._

It was probably the best option they had at the moment, given its size and the likelihood of their being approved to use it. _ It’s mostly holodecks and suites on Deck Six… so one more recreational space wouldn’t really hurt, would it?_

He typed it into the pad as their number one option and then tapped his combadge. =/\=”Shau to Shepherd. Skye… I think I have a decent option. Can you meet me in the forward section of Deck 6? Past Holodecks 1 and 2.”

He knew the Science Officer would want to look at the space for herself, but he also didn’t want to waste any time putting the request in. =/\=”Computer, locate Lieutenant Nathan Hawthorne.”
