Kilo sat staring up at halmond waiting on him for any sign that she was going to get to do some work today, so far all she had done was go for a morning run, no ball , chasing . She was getting very bored.Hammond smoothed his uniform and rang the bell, he had things he wanted to talk through with the captain, she had spent time as a fighter pilot which was a relief it meant that she likely did not have time to mince words and would appriciate direct.
Colonel Jaxon ‘Hawk’ Hammond
Commander 77th Air-Ground Task Foce “Iron Valkyries” (CAG)“Come,” Freja called, looking up to see who was coming by.
~Freja Andreassen~
Hammond stepped in the door, kilo glued to his side he moved to where the captain was and stopped, Kilo siting but still focused on Hammond. “Apologies Captain, I sent word to your Yeoman but Its been awhile since I sent the message and I thought it best that we meet, I hope this is not bad time,” he said extending his hand. Kilo looked at her and his hand and waited eyes clued to the Captain.
Colonel Jaxon ‘Hawk’ Hammond
Commander 7th Marine Expeditionary Unit “Iron Valkyries” (CAG)“Not at all, Colonel Hammond,” Freja rose and shook his offered hand, her dark eyes sliding slightly to Kilo, more to acknowledge the canine’s presence rather than anything else, “And Kilo right? To what do I owe this pleasure?”
~Freja Andreassen~
Kilo’s head cocked sideways at the mention of her name, then looked at him and back to the Captain “I thought it best we meet face to face, get to know each other a little and get any expectations out so we can work together as efficiently as possible ” he said to her
Colonel Jaxon ‘Hawk’ Hammond
Commander 7th Marine Expeditionary Unit “Iron Valkyries” (CAG)“Excellent, as a rule I generally leave you to handle your marines as you see fit,” Freja replied, “If a member of my staff makes that job difficult, I expect you to let me know so that I can handle them, just as I would do the same in a reverse situation.”
~Freja Andreassen~
Hammond smiled warmly, “I think you and I are going to get a long just fine.” he said, Kilo looked back at her, a quick lick of her limps with a thin breath of air leaving her nose. “She’s on the fence apparently” he said with a laugh.. “May I?” he said point to the chair
Colonel Jaxon ‘Hawk’ Hammond
Commander 7th Marine Expeditionary Unit “Iron Valkyries” (CAG)“Please,” Freja nodded, “I think it’s my mostly Betazoid heritage, but I always found commanders who pretended to have all the answers grated on me, so I’ve always tried to not be that person.”
~Freja Andreassen~
“Thank you” he said as he took a seat” he looked over at Kilo pointed at the floor, she moved quickly and took a seat. “Release” he said. She sniffed a few times and laid down next to his feet. “I find it appropriate to keep a semi all knowing posture with the lower ranks, but peer to peer and even direct, I find team work and clear communication is best.” he said leaning back , it had been a long day.
Colonel Jaxon ‘Hawk’ Hammond
Commander 7th Marine Expeditionary Unit “Iron Valkyries” (CAG)“Indeed,” Freja nodded, “It certainly makes for an easier environment because you aren’t having to decifer the indirect communication all the time.”
~Freja Andreassen~
Hammond liked where the conversation was going so far. “I hope you don’t mind captain but I took the liberty of offering some cross training with your medical staff and the Fleet Angels. ” he frowned realizing he should have asked her first. “I apologize, I should have ran it by you first, as you know my unit is understaffed in the medical department, it would be nice to have some field surgeons” he
Colonel Jaxon ‘Hawk’ Hammond
Commander 7th Marine Expeditionary Unit “Iron Valkyries” (CAG)“I don’t mind in the least, medical is one of those departments on a ship like this that would require a bit of cross training,” Freja replied, “Let me or the CMO know if you’re having trouble finding some volunteers, we can potentially interview the staff to understand the reasons for their hesitation and maybe alleviate any concerns they may have. Sometimes just having an honest conversation helps someone make a decision.”
~Freja Andreassen~
Hammond smiled. “That would be excellent, and please if there is anything my Marines can do to help out around the ship please do not hesitate to ask. “So what does the Senior staff do on the ship for fun?” he asked subconsciously reaching down to pet Kilo on the head.
Colonel Jaxon ‘Hawk’ Hammond
Commander 7th Marine Expeditionary Unit “Iron Valkyries” (CAG)“Loads of them meet up in the messhall to converse,” Freja replied, “I’ll admit, I tend to keep a professional distance, crew tend to not relax when their Captain is around them and I’d rather they relax in their downtime than feel like they’re having to be on their best behaviour because ‘mom’s’ around.” She remarked with a light joke, “I personally can occasionally be found in the holodeck enjoying the outdoor sports I grew up with as a child. My father’s half Human and as a result that side of the family is from Norway and culturally we are an outdoorsy type of people.”
~Freja Andreassen~
Hammond considered her word, he was more social with his teams but he did maintain a distance for that very reason, he soldiers would have a hard time being them selves. He guessed the same was true for him, it would actually be nice to have someone he could relate to at the same level. He laughed at her comment.
“If you are interested I would not mind having a peer to converse with that was not under my command. It’s hard for the officers under out command to be themselves but the same is true for us” he said. “We have to have a small level of mystery in their minds” he laughed.
“What sports?” he asked. “Kilo and I love to do physical activities”
Colonel Jaxon ‘Hawk’ Hammond
Commander 7th Marine Expeditionary Unit “Iron Valkyries” (CAG)“I’d like that,” Freja smiled, “Loads of sports, skiing was a popular winter activity, ice skating. In the summer we’d hike, loads of nature trails near the family home near Lillehammer Norway. Rain, snow, sleet or sunshine, there was always something to do outside.”
~Freja Andreassen~
Hammond Smiled he could ski well enough but ice skates and him had never gotten along.”Let’s just say skating and Me are not old friends” he laughed, but I love to ski” he said. “If you want we could hit the slopes sometime?”
Colonel Jaxon ‘Hawk’ Hammond
Commander 7th Marine Expeditionary Unit “Iron Valkyries” (CAG)“That sounds like a great idea,” Freja smiled, “It has been a while since I hit the slopes. My Vulcan husband tends to avoid snow covered activities like a typical desert dweller. We have plenty of other things in common, but our physical hobbies definitely diverge a little bit.”
~Freja Andreassen~
Hammond smiles he had never considered dating or marrying a Vulcan it seemed like it would not be a good fit, but then again she seemed happy enough..” Not sure ill ever marry, but can I ask you a question about your marriage?”
Colonel Jaxon ‘Hawk’ Hammond
Commander 7th Marine Expeditionary Unit “Iron Valkyries” (CAG)“Ask away,” Freja nodded.
~Freja Andreassen~
Hammond scratched his head a little he was not sure how to ask, she was not under his command but he wanted to get an idea before pursuing anything, “I don’t know how to ask this without it being a little weird, but what’s it like to date or be married to a vulcan?” he said reaching down to pet Kilo.
Colonel Jaxon ‘Hawk’ Hammond
Commander 7th Marine Expeditionary Unit “Iron Valkyries” (CAG)
“It’s not without challenges, we were friends for a very long time before anything happened,” Freja replied, “It certainly wasn’t anything that I could have predicted. His brother also married outside of the race, to a Human, it went less well than Hallis and my marriage has..another reason we probably danced around each other for years, he was mindful of his brother’s failed marriage. I think the biggest struggle non Vulcans have is we express our care in more open ways than they do. They still have emotions like the rest of us, they just supress them because they’re rather intense. It’s easier for me because I’m more Betazoid than Human and so I can sense the emotions.”
