Becca caught his words and sudden stop. “And what do you mean about fear of being devoured?” While she had understood the need for the vaccine in a world where atmosphere played a part in negative effects, she was lost as to why being devoured had been a fear but no longer was. Contained or eliminated were the two choices she expected to come from the man’s mouth. Eliminated was one thing, contained was a whole other bottle to stopper.

“The Cree are not unlike .. spiders and are carnivorous. Occasionally a worker goes missing and the rumor abounds that they have become .. lunch. Typically it is found to be an accident in the wild or the lake. Fishing is a popular sport there.”

She also reached for one of the vials, hoping he would hand it to her, as she pulled her ever present scanner from her hip. She wasn’t going to let the crew take it blindly without know affects, side affects and makeup of the vial. “May I?”

“Of course. Please do.” The contents were benign. The scanner would be able to tell that it’s primary effect would be that of a sedative. Becca would need to run a more detailed analysis with the ships’ systems to break it down further.

Ryley seemed content not to take a vial to look at just yet. He however was still watching their guest speaker. “Have you information in what form these hallucinations take? Are they hallucinating the some things or things specific to the individual? And do you have any scans of the brains of any of those suffering we can see?“

Sung-ho leaned in, a smile that was thin but present. “That is the fascinating part. In short we are not sure.” He paused to glance at the vials. “The medical staff are not researchers so we have only treatment reports. What I do know is that there are commonalities in the nature of the hallucinations but they are unique to the person.”

Nodding to the others, she glanced back to hear the answers. “Seems benign enough. I’ll need to run a better scan in medical to be sure. But on the outside, seems safe enough if we can manage to help those who end up with adverse reactions to it. Is there a counter to the drug in case the hallucinations get bad?” It was one thing to have a side affect. It was another thing to have an allergic style reaction and no way to counteract it.

“This is the counter,” he said, pointing to the vials. “If they don’t have this - barring those with a B blood type - they will start to exhibit symptoms. This is an inoculation against it. There has been no noted side effects for those at the mine. These are all tested ahead of time prior to being assigned there. Should any side effects be noted - typically it is a kind of stupor or fatigue, they will be assigned elsewhere for work.”

Ryley stretched to take a vial to inspect. He turned it over in his hand. “Id like any notes you have on the research and creation if this if possible, how long does it take to kick in once delivered? And how long does each dosage last?”

“They are applied monthly,” Sung-ho said. “It is in association with company toxicity tests and looking for obvious physical issues. Mining is not the easiest work. It is applied as a booster; somewhere in the vicinity of five weeks is the normal timeline for the dosage that is customized for the person. First doses given are typically done a week before they are berthed at the mine. Immunity is within the day of application. All notes will be available to you.”

Rykey nodded, “thank you.” he said and considered the vial a moment in quiet reflection. He glances at Rebecca to see if she had anything further she would want to add.

Rebecca shook her head a moment. “Well, I don’t see any reason not to move forward. A quick scan from the medical computers just to be sure all’s well and it’s recorded in ship’s logs and computers for remedy and tracking purposes, and we should be set. I’m willing to take the first dose just to be sure it’s good for us.” She nodded to Sung knowing he meant well. But she would be a fool to just blindly take his word. And something told her if she had, she wouldn’t have garnered any brownie points with him or the Doc.

Ryley smirked slightly. He liked the thought processes of the CSO

“If there is nothing else, I think we should be ready within thirty minutes to dose the crew. Is that acceptable?” She glanced at their guest to get his approval, or not, and see if there was anything else he was going to add.

He nodded. “Medical can be ready in about thirty minutes too, ” he agreed.
