Jen seemed to attract large ships. From a carrier to a mythology class. He checked the chrono on his PaDD before pocketing it. Nearly time he thought as he rounded the graceful curve of the corridor to sickbay. There he found his destination. It wasn’t a ‘knowing’; Jen had to look for it on schematics to locate it. This was something that he didn’t so much as loathe but found .. tedious. Doctors, it seemed, went by a script that they all followed - not unlike an eye examination and the chart that had reputedly not changed for centuries. It was a model for abuse, Jen thought.

Turning and entering Sickbay he found a nurse and confirmed his appointment. Then he took a seat in the waiting area and .. waited. Looking about from where he was seated he could see some operations of the sickbay. As he was going to be keeping an eye on all operations this was as good a place as any to start.

A young Bajoran female in a medical uniform and the pips of crewman backed out of a storage cabinet where she had been completing a stocktake. She looked around sickbay, and then she spied the Commander sitting and waiting and looking. She pulled herself up to her full height and approached the Andorian, she had attempted his name in her head, but it proved impossible for her tongue and her mind to get around it.

“Commander, Sir, sorry, I don’t want to get your name wrong,” she said, “I’m Nurse Taw Yllek, and I see noone has started your physical yet. I’m a Nurse and a crewman and am happy to do what I can to assist. Dr Sumners will finish anything I can’t do for you, Sir, but I don’t want you sitting and waiting unnecessarily, either. Would you like to follow me, room 5 has been assigned for your boarding physical.”

Jen stood as she approached and couldn’t help but think that ‘her’ name was a mouthful. Perhaps that was why, in the grand scheme of the marines, that many nicknames were pervasive. He paid attention to her pronunciation. “Nurse Taw Yllek, thank you. Jen will work. Colonel, ah, Commander Jen.” He smiled. That was too close still to be comfortable for that change, even after his short stint on the Chimera. He gestured for her to precede him to Room 5. “I have not seen the rosters just yet. You must be quite busy with new crew onboarding. Moving from a crew of 600 to 900 after all.” He was making chit chat though was also trying to feel out the department and how well they were coping with the change.

“Ok, Commander Jen,” Yllek replied, “and Yllek is fine. Oh yes, lots of comings and goings, mostly comings. I was on the previous Atlantis, spent a lot of time in sickbay as a kid. Ryley-with-Cane got me interested in medical and when I went through medical at the Academy, I wanted to be posted here so he could mentor me, then he got shipped to another ship, the Chimera. Hey, your record says you came to us from the Chimera. You would know Ryley, I bet … Doctor with a cane, pretends to be a big old grump, but really he’s a friendly man who doesn’t like to be called Doctor. I wonder if he still has that new cane I got him, the one that allowed him to enter and remove isolinear chips at will, depending on his needs.”

She smiled happily, “I love that old grump, but next time I see him, I’m going to kill him, I came here to be with him, and then he ups and leaves, a girl would think he doesn’t love her anymore, well not me. I know Ryley-with-cane loves me, he just doesn’t want to admit it.”

“Anyway, let’s get this underway,” she said, bringing up his file on a padd, “anything unusual happen since your last medical? A run in with the sentient Apples of Mynot Phonty II, perhaps? I hear they go bananas if you drink a fruit cocktail in their presence.”

As she spoke, she started her scans of the XO and compared the results to his existing file.
