The ankle length skirt of her linen dress swished slightly as it flared from her hips. Looking down, Dalaira smiled. “Don’t be nervous, it’ll be fine. Besides, you know most of the people in Sickbay.”

Sowyn chewed on her lip. “I know it doesn’t hurt, but I don’t like the vaccinations. I don’t know why, but I don’t.” She pondered this more as they approached the Sickbay doors.

Reaching out her hands, Dalaira took Sowyn’s and gave it a gentle squeeze. She wondered idly if and when Sowyn might develop the abilities of a Chihao, but since the girl was already blessed with an unusual level of abilities, it was hard to say.

“Relann was around my age when she got hers, wasn’t she?”

Senz looked disapprovingly. “Sowyn, we’ve talked about this. Mind your shields.”

“But I know you and you don’t mind. We talk that way all the time.”

Dalaira sighed slightly. “I know. But not everyone is as comfortable or accepting. Be mindful and go in compassion.” She didn’t want the girl to isolate herself, but she knew the history of their people was apparently not an uncommon one. She wanted to protect Sowyn where it was reasonable.

Sowyn simply nodded as they stepped into Sickbay.

“Doctor Ryley?” Dalaira called out, looking around for the oft abrasive man.

Ryley looked up from the NE in blue he was finishing with, the old saw bones had shed his jacket and shirt a sign that he had been working on something. His black t-shirt proclaimed some words in red in Klingon. He went back to his discussion and the NE nodded and got off the biobed with a roll of his eyes. He smiled however when he reached Dalaria and Sowyn but didn’t linger, the Doctor hot on his heels.

Ryley leaned on his cane and surveyed both girl and woman a moment giving them both a precursors visual evaluation. “ Ta’han Ladies.” He said with a slight respectful nod of his head. “What can I do you for?”

Sowyn smiled at Ryley, but there was a hint of nervousness. “Relann said I needed to come down and get a vaccination for something important. Something called… measles?”

“Did she indeed.” Ryley asked

“And I haven’t had much of anything myself, so I would do well receive this preventative treatment,” Dalaira added.

He looked up at the older woman and nodded his head slightly.

The girl chewed on her lip again.”Does it hurt?” she asked softly.

Looking back at the child Ryley considered his initial response which was to stoically go Yes. Terrifble horrible pain and then roll his eyes and add No you dolt. It won’t hurt. He did not do this however and instead shook his head slightly. “No. You might feel a bit off for a little bit afterwards but that will be gone in a couple hours.” He sighed, he was going soft in his old age.

Waving them both to the biobed where he had left his tricorder he hit the recalibration and waited. “I’m going to check you out first before I give you the shot. Whoever wants to go first hop up.”
