The airlock to the outer hull was a sturdy, reinforced chamber, dimly lit with red emergency lights casting an ominous glow. The walls were lined with tool racks and emergency gear, meticulously organized despite the recent chaos. Standing by the control panel were an engineering officer, Lieutenant Saresh, and an operations officer, Ensign Jilara. Both looked up as the Marines approached, their expressions grim.

“Lieutenant River, I strongly advise against going out there,” Saresh said, his voice tense but composed. “We’ve been unable to conduct external scans due to interference from the energy wave. It’s disrupted our sensor arrays and created a feedback loop in the EPS conduits. We can’t guarantee the integrity of the hull or the presence of any additional hazards.”

Ensign Jilara nodded in agreement, her concern evident. “Without those scans, we can’t ensure your safety out there. The structural integrity fields are fluctuating, and we haven’t been able to re-establish stable readings. It’s too risky.”

“That’s part of the job” Peter Sigmundsson stepped forward wearing his own EVA suit. In the large white suit, the already oversized Intelligence officer seemed even larger, the boots giving him the extra inches to go past the seven-foot mark. . He gave the marines a curt nod, this was the one place he could do something useful, gather intelligence.

River nodded to Peter “That’s why the marines where created Lieutenant. To go places and do things star fleet won’t or can’t.” She said simply as she and her marines checked there gear one last time.

Peter actually grinned at that, one of the benefits of serving on the Atlantis was getting to work with Marines again.

Lieutenant Saresh Grimaced and nodded finally, “well everything is ready for your departure. We will control the lock systems manually from the two service panels on the other side of the bulkheads. Good luck” with that he and the ensign departed to open the airlocks.

There would be enough time for the marines to get themselves ready and anyone else who was going outside, after which the first of the two bulk head doors slid open slowly as if being pulled open by the manual override.

River true to her p[personality was the first person out of the air lock. She lead form the front and that would never change. As she got sued to weightless feeling of space she activated her armour magnetic locks and clamped herself to the hull. Moving slowly she began using the sensor suit in her armour to gather information and look for hazards.

Peter stood back and allowed the team of Marines to head out first. It wasn’t fear or reluctance that held him back. He stayed back because that’s what you did as a (Mostly) unarmed Intelligence Officer following a highly armed Marine fireteam, the second was that barring a handful he was much too large to take point, especially in the suit which meant he couldn’t really make himself smaller.

As the crew exited the airlock, they were met by the vastness of space, with the USS Atlantis looming behind them, its sleek hull reflecting the distant starlight. Beside it, an alien ship docked seamlessly, unmistakably of Narvahalrian origin. The vessel’s organic, curvilinear design contrasted sharply with the angular lines of the Atlantis, its hull pulsating with soft blue and green bioluminescence.

The docking mechanism was unlike anything they had seen before. Instead of standard clamps, the Narvahalrian ship seemed to meld with the Atlantis, connected by a glowing, ethereal energy field. Tendrils of energy extended between the two ships, flickering with advanced, mysterious technology.

Beyond, the swirling hues of the Aetherial Expanse loomed, a reminder of the unknown dangers that had brought them here. The crew knew they were witnessing something extraordinary—an encounter that could shape the future of both species.

Peter took a moment to look at the view, thirty years of travelling space and there was still so much new to see and experience. He didn’t spend much time stargazing or Expanse Gazing, he quickly moved in line with the Marines keeping to the rear.

As the team made their way across the exterior of the USS Atlantis, they couldn’t help but be struck by the alien beauty of the Narvhalarian ship. Its hull, shimmering with bioluminescence, seemed almost alive—pulsing gently as though it breathed. The team were close enough now to begin investigating unaware of the progress form inside the ship.

Peter pulled out his tricorder and began the scan “Interesting design, I wonder if we could incorporate some of this technology with our shuttles” He said to no on in particular.
