The Narvhalarians had efficiently transmitted the data package to the USS Atlantis, detailing the modifications necessary to navigate the subspace anomalies of the Aetherial Expanse. With the blueprint now in the hands of the Chief Engineer and science team, they could begin implementing the solution. In their message, the Narvhalarians also confirmed they had established communication with their other ship, which would remain outside the Expanse until the Atlantis had successfully installed the new system and secured safe passage. Meanwhile, the Narvhalarians, much to the vocal objections of the Romulans, had tugged the Romulan warbird within the Atlantis’ tractor range, rendering it immobile and powerless to resist. The Romulan crew, clearly frustrated, could do little but watch as the situation unfolded, the balance of control now firmly in Starfleet’s hands.

Jen tapped at the railing behind his seat. It was hard to just ‘sit’ with the Romulans nearby. As far as he had personally come in accepting Vulcans as not being the existential enemy of the Andorians - a step begun with the founding of the Federation, the Romulans caused in him a little hackle to rise which his ancestors may have felt when thinking of the Vulcans, in a way the unwelcome cousins in the family.

“Status report on all systems?” he said, staring at the Romulan ship on the viewscreen. “And status of the Romulan ship?”

To navigation he said, “Distance to Romulan space. Set a course toward it and prepare to depart.”

“Engineering,” he said, “What is our safest best speed while towing the Romulans?”

“Captain, should we give our regards to the Narvhalarians before departing?” By we he was thinking her in this instance.

The reports, should anyone access them, would reveal that the USS Atlantis was in as optimal condition as could be expected without the aid of a full starbase refit. All critical systems were functioning within acceptable parameters, with minor repairs holding steady, and the warp core operating at peak efficiency. Shields were stable, sensors had been recalibrated, and the communication arrays were fully operational. Despite the lingering effects of the Aetherial Expanse, the ship was ready for action.

The Romulan vessel, on the other hand, was in far more precarious condition. Life support and essential systems were barely holding, running just above minimal thresholds. Internal power fluctuations were frequent, though controlled, and the crew was visibly strained under the conditions. As part of their reluctant agreement, the warbird’s weapons had been fully disarmed, though it was clear from the Romulans’ constant objections that they remained deeply uncomfortable with the situation. The ship, once a symbol of the Empire’s might, now floated under the watchful eye of the Atlantis, tethered and powerless, its once-formidable threat neutralized.

Despite the tension, everything was good to go. The Romulans, while resentful, had little choice but to cooperate, and the Narvhalarians’ technological assistance had positioned the Federation crew on the brink of overcoming the final challenges of the Expanse. All systems, both on the Atlantis and in the broader operation, were poised to move forward.
