OOC: I couldn’t find the post I made last time about this, so I’m posting again

IC: After leaving sickbay having been cleared for duty medically Chris arrived outside the office of the Chief of Security , he did a quick check of his uniform then pressed the door chime and waited for the CoS to give his permission before entering

Lt. Ducante was at his desk, catching up on information since getting released from medical after the away mission, himself. He was also trying to find more information about the Orion, when the door chimed. “You may enter.” He stated, getting up to greet the newest ensign to the security team.

Chris entered the room after gaining permission from the COS

He stopped at an appropriate distance from the Chief’s desk , stood to attention

“Ensign Chris Taylor, Reporting for duty Sir.”

He said then waited for a response from Owen

“Yes, Ensign Taylor, at ease ensign, pleasure to meet you. Have a seat. You want anything, coffee, juice or tea?” Lt. Ducante stated then asked the ensign. “How has the onboarding been for you?” He continued as he moved a few feet to stand in front of the replicator.

Lt. Ducante, Chief of Security

“Thank you, sir.”

Chris relaxed from attention and took the offered seat.

“Tea would be lovely, thank you.”

He waited a moment before answering the Chief’s question.

“The onboarding’s gone well, sir. I’ve completed my psychological and medical evaluations, and everyone’s been very welcoming. There’s a lot to learn aboard a new ship, but I’m settling in quickly.”

A faint smile crossed his face.

“I’m looking forward to getting started. From everything I’ve seen so far, the Athena seems like the sort of ship where everyone takes pride in their work. I’m hoping to do the same for the Security department.”

He works the replicator for a cup of tea, and hands it to the ensign, before sitting down in his chair. “Was your medical with Doctor Sharvi? Still interesting to me to see a Klingon as a doctor, giving their beliefs, but he’s a cool dude. Might have seen me while you were there, I got some pretty bad bumps and bruises from this last away mission, but saved an Orion, so it was worth it.” He asked and stated. “Yes, this ship’s team takes a lot of pride in their work and duties as officers, and it pleases me that you feel that way. This ship is an excellent start to a career, as far as I have seen.” He continued.

Chris took the tea from the COS

“Thank you Sir”

He said taking a measure sip before setting the cup on the table in front of him.

“No Sir.....It was Lt Talia Ren”

He paused for a moment before continuing

“I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Doctor Sharvi yet , sounds like he could be interesing to meet though, Do you think he likes to spar occasionally?”

He said thinking about Klingon’s being warriors in general, he had no Ill feelings towards Klingons as a species , he did relish the idea of sparring with one, to see how he measured up.

“He would most likely be up to it, I know he used to be a security officer on the Viking before he switched to medical.” Lt. Ducante explained. “For the most part, to get into the details of your duties, will be split between two sections. One, you will be patrolling the ship with a fellow security officer, and the other, will have shifts manning the security conn on the bridge. I know what they taught in the academy was alot to process, and mostly in an efficiently quick pace, so not all retain all the information accurately, plus your new, so nerves will kick in… We will show you tips and tricks to make it easier to navigate the controls, and not purposely shoot the wrong item or target. Everybody says that won’t happen to me, till their standing in front of the captain, trying to explain your actions, and we try to avoid that conversation here.” He continued slightly laughing like he remembers an incident where this happened.

Chris listened carefully, a faint smile appearing at the mention of the possibility of accidentally shooting the wrong target. He could certainly understand why that might make for an uncomfortable conversation with the Captain.

“I appreciate that, sir. I don’t mind admitting there’s a lot to take in when you’re first out here. I’d rather ask questions and learn the Athena’s systems properly than assume I know everything and make a mistake.”

He nodded thoughtfully.

“Patrols sound straightforward enough, and I’m looking forward to getting some time on the security conn. I was always more comfortable with the practical side of things at the Academy anyway.”

There was a quiet confidence in his expression.

“And if there are tips and tricks that can make the job easier, I’ll happily take advantage of them. I’m here to learn, after all.”

Chris settled back slightly in the chair.

“As for patrolling with another officer, that’s probably a good thing to start with. It’ll give me a chance to get familiar with the ship and the way Security operates here before I’m expected to do everything on my own.”

“I’m thinking to set you up with Lt. Rado Gainn. He’s a recent transfer from the Memorial, he’s a former COS himself, so he can definitely teach the ropes, and you both can learn the ship together.” I suggested. “I gave him an office beside mine.” He continued.

Chris let out a smile , he would work wuth anyone but having his fomer COS as his partner made him happy

“Yes Sir, I know Lt Rado Gainn. he was my former CO, we transferred from the Memorial together”

“Well then, that’s pretty much everything I had for you. Welcome to the Athena, and the security team, you have my permission to get started.” He responded.

Chris said finishing his tea, setting down the mug and getting up from the chair and headed out the door

That was painless he thought to himself as he headed for his quarters that of course he shared with 3 other junior officers to square things away, tomorrow was his first shift.
