After the briefing, Harrison made his way back to his office. Sitting at his desk, he established a link with the Starfleet Intelligence database. One he entered his security clearance he began a search.

“Computer, give me a list of all weather manipulation/environmental control projects in the last 50 years. Both classified and unclassified, as well as active and discontinued projects.

Leaning back in his chair, harrison clasped his hands together behind his head and waited . . . .

“Processing,” the computer responded as a loading bar popped up on the screen. It didn’t take long for the list of unclassified projects to pop up, there only a limited few. Most involved local area control systems, all the way up to planet wide systems like Risa. There was also a large chunk used for agriculture and tourism, a surprising amount were used to create snow for an Earth sport called “skiing.”

As the classified system started populating, they populated in order of known and active, all the way to hypothetical systems that the Romulans had investigated.

He tapped the desk in front of him with a fingertip, contemplating the results.

“Okaaaay, generate a list of project directors and main contributors to the classified projects. Include any Romulan contributors as well.”

Harrison studied the list for a few moments. None of the names really jumped out as being suspicious . . .yet.

“Computer, list the last known whereabouts of each person on this list and the current status of their projects.”

Reading through the list of names, Harrison decided Dr. Kelvara Doj is the strongest lead, but there isn’t any conclusive evidence, he thought.

Dr. Kelvara Doj and her Project Ice Talon are active, and she is currently assigned to a Klingon military research station. An active weather/environmental manipulation project combined with continued access to a military research facility makes her a plausible suspect.

The next names that stood out to the CIO was Capt. Aaron Reyes-Kell and Lt. Cmdr. Oyelin Task with Project Stormglass. The project was also active, with Reyes-Kell operating aboard a research vessel in the Bajoran sector. Their project could potentially involve atmospheric manipulation, but there’s no direct indication that they’re connected to Wer Beta II.

Working his way down the list, Project Grey Veil. With its unknown status and project director Gul Rejat Tovin having to have been believed deceased, the uncertainty makes it worth investigating, but there’s little actionable evidence.

Two more that stand out, he thought.

He looked at Project Cryofront. Project director Thot Nel’s whereabouts and the project’s status are both unknown. The name suggests environmental or climatic manipulation, potentially making this a particularly interesting lead if Wer Beta II is experiencing unusual cold conditions.

Lastly, he went back up the list to Romulan Project Cloudmask. Status is suspended, with its directors recalled to Romulus and reassigned to the Tal’Shiar. Possible, but again there’s no direct connection to Wer Beta II. Who knows what the Romulan intel division is up to.

From his perspective, Ice Talon and Cryofront would immediately stand out for further investigation. Ice Talon has the advantage of being active and presently tied to a military facility, while Cryofront has the advantage of a project name that sounds directly related to climate manipulation.

“Computer cross-reference Wer Beta II against every project, personnel file, sensor report, classified communication, and known deployment associated with Project Ice Talon, and Project Cryofrost.”
