Outside of the intelligence office stood a tall dark haired man wearing some civilian garb. He was clearly not a starfleet officer by the looks of him. Though many people had seen him throughout the ship. Once he had gotten word of Faye’s sudden departure on base, he knew he would need to see the next intelligence chief and get acquainted. Very few people were aware of his real reasons for being aboard the Athena. But it was all to intel’s benefit.

Dawson pressed the door chime, waiting to be permitted inside.

-Dawson “Stillwater”

Harrison had been origanizing files in his new office: checking security access, and intel access when the chime sounded.

Darkening the screen on the computer, he replied “Enter”.

When he saw that it was Dawson, he said, “Mr. Dawson, I was wondering when I would get a visit from you? Please, come in and have a seat.”

Dawson gave a slow head nod with a grin as the man before him offered him a seat. He had been in this office plenty of times before. He had even recalled a time when he and Marishka had been here as assets to Faye Calloway. But in classical fashion, times changed. Marishka was no longer aboard obviously. And Faye was the latest to exit.

He took the offered seat. “It’s a pleasure to meet you Commander Callahan. How has the transition been?” he asked in greeting.

-Dawson “Stillwater”

“Surprisingly simple, so far,” Harrison began. “Capt. Legen has taken care of getting my clearances updated, but because of all the ‘black’ tape, ‘m sure something is going to get FUBARRED. And it’s not like I’m new to the ship, so that helps. Faye has also left a lot of her info behind for me.

“I had no idea, her network of contacts, allies, and assets was so extensive. It’s almost overwhelming on how much there is. But, if you’ve been in the game for as long as she was . . . it’s understandable. I’m sure you can relate.”

Dawson grinned and quietly nodded before replying. “The longer you’re in, the greater the network. She’ll do well for herself wherever she goes I think. Out of curiosity, why the change of scenery? Orders? Or was it more a request?” he asked the man curiously.

-Dawson “Stillwater”

“It was. . . a request. The captain needed a new intel chief, I’m qualified. I have no desire at this time to start again on a new ship. Things kind of fell into place. I know, I have big shoes to fill, but I’m sure I’m capable of providing the same level of support to the captain and crew as Faye did.”

Callahan looked across the desk with intensity. “What about you? You plan on sticking around?”

Dawson nodded thoughtfully. “That’s the plan at this point. But, you know how things go. Missions change. They always do.” he said, speaking from some form of experience.

He leaned forward in a minorly conspiratorial way. “Truth be told, I figured I’d come down and fill you in at least a bit of why I’ve been here. Probably important for the Chief of Intelligence to know?” he raised an eyebrow to see if the man was curious or if he had alredy discovered things. The likelihood of him knowing much about him was slim though.

-Dawson “Stillwater”

Harrison nodded and smiled. “I would appreciate that. You’d be saving me some time.”

He looked around the room at the disorganized organizing. “Yes, definitely save me some time. Soool, Mr. Dawson, why does Starfleet Intel have an operative on the Athena?”

Dawson gave Callhana a knowing grin before leaning over the desk. The door seemed to click and other systems seemed to cut out entirely. The computer gave an audible, “Area secure.”

He leaned back. “Short story is the Athena has been the target of a many intelligence issues over the years. While most cases are unrelated, it does make for an odd quandry. Someone high up believes it isn’t coincidence. I’m here mainly as a liason to fish out what the truth is.”

Callahan locked onto Dawson’s eyes for several seconds after the room announced itself secure. “That’s a neat trick. You’ll have to let me in on that secret.”

He leaned back in his chair, clasping his hands together behind his head.

“An intelligence investigation into the Athena,” he said slowly. “That’s . . . . interesting, to say the least. I assume when you say someone high up, you mean high enough that I’m not going to find their name in any of the files Faye left me.”

Leaning forward, Harrison continued. “If there are people aboard Athena who are compromised, I need to know. If there are systems being monitored that shouldn’t be, I need to know. If someone aboard this ship is actively working against Starfleet interests, I really need to know.”
