Now that the staff meeting was over, Brenna made her way directly to medical to get cleared for duty. Really, it should have been the other way around, but life didn’t always go the way it should have. Stepping off the lift onto deck 12, she made her way along the outer hull until she reached Sickbay. She checked her pocket once to make sure she had the isochip with her medical file. Just in case her file hadn’t reached the Athena yet.The door hissed quietly closed behind Atoded as she stepped out of range of the automatic sensor. She joined the small queue to wait for her turn to be seen.

Soon enough the queue in front of her dissipated as each officer was processed by the Sickbay staff members on shift with a nurse taking names and checking medical files before sending them on to the next available doctor or nurse.
“Name?” The nurse asked, “You must be one of the new arrivals, I don’t recognise you.”
Lt. Elaine Janvier, Chief Medical Officer.
“I am. I’m Brenna Atoded, the new counselor. I’m here for my onboarding if one of the doctors has time?” she asked with a smile and friendliness that said she was happy to be there, rather than resigned to yet another physical.
Lt. Cmdr. Atoded, Counsellor
“Welcome aboard Counsellor.” The doors to Sickbay opened and the nurse swiveled her head around to look at the young doctor as she returned from the very same meeting Atoded had just come from. “Dr Ellen has just walked in now, she’ll be pleased, she likes doing the boarding physicals of the other department heads so she can get better acquainted with them.”
“Thank you. I look forward to meeting her,” Brenna said.
Indicating for the Lieutenant Commander to follow her, the slightly rotund nurse waddled over to meet Elaine halfway. “Got a new one for you Dr Ellen, this is Counselor Atoad for her boarding physical.”
“It’s Elaine,” Janvier corrected, letting out a little sigh as the nurse waddled off to sort out the next patient. Janvier couldn’t tell if the nurse had even heard the correction or not. “She has the worst memory when it comes to names although Dr Ren has assured me, that she does remember them… eventually,”
Brenna followed and bit back a smirk as the nurse bungled both the doctor’s name and her own. “It keeps us on our toes,” Brenna said as the nurse left.
“I saw you before, but it’s nice to officially be able to welcome you aboard Counsellor. You must be tired having to get right into business after only just arriving.”
Lt. Elaine Janvier, Chief Medical Officer
“Oh, I’m iused to it. I don’t think any of my transfers have ever been calm and lazy. There is always something going on. But,” she said as she followed the doctor, “that is what we signed up for. Thank you for the welcome. I’m excited to be here. How long have you been on the Athena?”
Lt. Cmdr. Atoded, Counsellor
“Only a few months more than you,” Elaine smiled leading the one to an open biobed, “It’s a nice ship, and the crew are nice. When you get the opportunity, I recommend a walk around the arboretum. Your predecessor showed it to me when I first came aboard, and it is a beautiful place. I like to take Enj for walks there sometimes of if I want a place to study medical journals that isn’t my quarters or my office.
Lt. Elaine Janvier, Chief Medical Officer
Enj? Why did that name sound familiar? “I have served on a Mythology class before. My boys and I are looking forward to having visiting the arboretums regularly.” Still that name tickled at her mind. “Enj?”
Lt. Cmdr. Atoded, Counsellor
“Enj,” It was just one word, but it was spoken full of love. Aside from medicine, Enj was everything to her. He had been with her through so much, her break up with Fraiser, Charlie’s death, loosing Clinton to the happier times like her graduation, and the awards she’d received over the years. “He’s around here somewhere,” she looked but couldn’t see him through all the people moving around.
“He’s my dog, I like to call him my therapy dog, because he is always there when I need him,” she laughed softly, “he’s been with me since the Academy and every ship since. I don’t know what I’d do without him. Everyone seems to love him, especially the patients. I think it’s a very dog friendly crew.”
