Looking up, Koraia nearly sighed, but she knew she was drunk and tried and tomorrow was another battle to fight. Glancing at Julien, she couldn’t help but smile. “Well, t’anks fer the caht and especially de drinks. I’m goin’ to not like em so much in de morning, but I’ve decided I don’t care.” She offered her hand to him. “Good luck with Cea, or Celia or whatever her name is.”

He took her hand and gave a rueful smile. “I won’t meet her, I’m… ah, not physically fit enough.” he said in a low voice and for some reason, although there was nothing like that between him and Ghubari, it still felt wrong admitting it to a woman. The truth was he couldn’t bear the fact that due to his heavy weight, he had become a boring lover, afraid of hurting the woman, all he could do is just lie there…
Koraia simply nodded, her eyes expressing the depth to which she understood, even if their issues were entirely different.
“I would like to spend some more time with you though if you don’t mind. They have a chess board in there or we could catch up on some of the latest best fleet manouvers together… “

“We can meetup,” Ghubari said with another nod. “I ‘ave like three appoin’ments in de morning but how ‘bout we meet fer lunch” She lifted her hand and raised her index finger. “And no alcohol,” she said with a glimmer in her eyes.

He flashed her his trademark charming smile that made the dimple appear in his left cheek. “Promise. Good night Ghubi.” he said and limped away as fast as he could manage, chuckling.

OOC: Shall we leave it there or continue?
OOC: I think we can leave it here. it works for our purposes. Time to meet in the present. :)

“Hey!” she shouted after him. If she could have freed a hand to plant it on her hip, she would have. “Don’t call me Ghubi!” she said seriously, glaring at him. But she couldn’t hold that expression long and it slipped into a lopsided grin while she shook her head.
Moving to her quarters here at the rehab facility, Koraia mused about the things that she knew to be true and that had been revealed this evening. Her laugh after they came out of the bar felt like more of a release than she cold remember having these last weeks. There were things unsaid that she’d later tell Julien during the few more times they saw each other during this time. About the heartbreaking end to her relationship with Stuart, the CMO on the Cheyenne who had to be the one to cut off her leg in that underground facility with no more than a phaser on a cutting setting. About how his oh so tangible guilt put a wedge between them and her shuddering and backing away whenever he touched what remained of her right leg. It was all too raw and new and along with giving up the Nike, and leaving the Cheyenne behind, she felt like the good things in her life had evaporated.
She wouldn’t drink again like this night with Julien until she finally went home to Tanzania and faced her mother and her village. In Dar es Salaam, her old friends would later then drag her out and after consuming far too much again (this time without King’s special concoction, she’d gather her courage and tell them the details of her accident and they would sit there afterwards in stunned silence. It was then, and only then in that silence, that Ghubari finally broke down and cried, beginning a grieving process for a life that was now gone. Beginnings and ends were so wrapped up in each other right now, but soon enough, when she was ready and truly on her feet, Starfleet Command would call and the new chapter would begin on the Nike’s sister ship, the USS Athena.
