Faye dug into her beef tips, cutting off small pieces. “More like, I’m doing something and my brain is idle and then low and behold a whole whack of time has passed. Like when I was on the holodeck in the program of my garden that Alex made for me. Two hours passed by, Dag. And yes I was stressed, but I wasn’t in a flight or fight moment of overwhelm like I would be when I do dissociate. This wasn’t that kind of moment. And it’s not like I’m actively recalling anything during these blank times, but I can’t say I’m not subconsciously either.” She shrugged her shoulders and popped a bite into her mouth.

Daggum though for a moment, twirling his fork in his fingers as he stared at the window. “Huh… I wonder if you brain is adapting to the influx of information stored in it? Organizing it in the background, sending out bits and pieces as the effort to keep it organized gets too much. And when you are blanking… maybe thats your brain doing a kind of soft reboot? Have you talked to Janna about it? Or gone to Medical?”
Daggum
Faye chewed and it bought her time to think, which was really a significant marker of growth. She was not known to take things slowly. She shook her head. “No,” Faye said quietly. “Not yet. I did talk to Dr. Grey about my brain though.” She broke into a smirk and looked up at Daggum. “I think I nearly gave the man a stroke after telling various bits and pieces.”
“I don’t know, this is something I wasn’t sure how to frame exactly. I know I should tell Janna if I think I’m dissociating but…” She sighed. “Because it didn’t seem the same, I guess I convinced myself it wasn’t a big deal.” And maybe it wasn’t, but she had been through a high amount of stressful changes recently and she could be forgiven for not coping as well as she had hoped.

“Change can be good or bad… but either way it’s significant. But judging how you are now compared to how you were previously after an event? I’d say you are doming better.” Daggum said. “But I think you really should talk to someone about it.” He smiled at her and then said “Because as much as I would love to be able to help you in this… for all my genius this just isn’t my strong suit.” and he laughed.
Daggum
A lopsided grin appeared on her face. “It’s all good. I have your support in other ways and that is everything,” Faye said softly. “But yeah, I should book an appointment with the good doctor.” If it had been someone else, perhaps they would feel resigned to it, but Faye’s progress in her life had been fast forwarded dramatically because of good therapists and so while he and Kingston were still getting to know each other, she wasn’t going to discount the woman’s capacity to help here.
Faye dug back into the condensed version of the meal from their first date, which was still a funny event to think about. Alex had teased her about how worked up she had gotten over that date. Given she had already declared her love for Daggum, and had bene in relationships with others, it had been a strange thing as a grown woman to realize she hadn’t even been on an actual date. Surreal.
She braced her elbow on the table as she chewed and then rested her chin in her palm. “You know, I think back to that first date and I have to say we really outdid ourselves. I mean in the history of first dates, I feel like we must have set some impossibly high standard.”

Daggum grinned as he chewed. “Yeah… just means I gotta flex my logistical muscles for our anniversaries. I’d hate for my wife to think I was slacking off.” and he swallowed and laughed. “But you do realize that that means when I tell you to do something on short notice, you have to do it without asking questions, right? Can’t have you ruining the surprises, now can I?” and he laughed again.
Daggum
“Without question? It’s like you don’t even know me,” she said with a laugh. “I mean, of course there are going to be questions. I just don’t expect answers. That’s the path to madness. Or…”-she screwed up her face-“more madness? Anyway, bring it on Gem. So long as we’re not making this a competition, I think there could be fun in all of it.” Faye was a lot more at ease with her way of doing romantic gestures and showing affection, though she still worried now and again. But Dag loved her as she was, and that acceptance made their unusual and sometimes baffling romance seem all the more natural.
