Damn, they move fast, Koraia mused to herself, wondering how Command could effect a transfer so quickly and neglect other necessities until they were hounded over and over. It would never cease to amaze her, even if she knew she shouldn’t be so surprised.
The empath rose to her feet and studied Luka, taking in what appeared to be her new first officer. Reaching out with a dark hand, she accepted the PADD. “At ease, Commander. And while I run a tight ship, I don’t require salutes.” She tapped her head with a couple fingers. “Being an empath generally means I know when people are sincere or not. For me, a salute doesn’t necessarily convey an abundance of respect.”
Gesturing to the sofa, she moved around the desk. “Come, have a seat and let’s get to know each other.”
Koraia settled on side of the sofa that was slightly curved to match the exterior shape of the ship. “I had no pre-warning about who my new Exec would be, so I haven’t had a chance to read your file. How about you fill me in?”

Luka stepped over to the aforementioned sofa and sat down. She tapped her toes on the ground once or twice, then smiled slightly. “Um, I’m not sure exactly what you’d like to know about me, so I’ll just start with my duty record. I graduated from the Galdori Space Academy in 2376 and served aboard the G.S.S. Ku’mal for three years in operations, then I was transferred to the G.S.S. Ti’kol where I served until 2385. At that time, I felt a desire to explore beyond where my people’s vessels were willing to take me, and to learn more about other peoples, so I requested to be one of the officers transferred into Starfleet. My request was accepted, and I joined the U.S.S. Killian, where I served as an operations officer until I was promoted onto the U.S.S. Greyhound in 2391. I served as the Chief of Operations there until I received my orders to report to the Athena just a few days ago,” she explained, listing off the dates and assignments. She wouldn’t deny that she was going to miss Captain Shore, but there was no changing that.
She smiled slightly, hoping her words had been sufficient. She knew nothing of her new Commanding Officer, other than the scant information she had been able to glean from the hastily accessed public records. “If you’re wondering about my alien nature, um, the information is provided in the PaDD I gave you,” she added hastily.

Koraia gave a small smile. “Of which I’m curious about and I will read in depth later for sure. I myself am half-Napean. My mother is Human. It means I’m a general empath, though telepathic with other telepaths. It comes with the usual issues all psi-positive people have.”
She shifted her position to rest her arm on the back of the sofa, and while her posture was more relaxed, her pale amber eyes gazed intently. “It’s going to be a process to get to know each other. I’ve been the commanding officer for over eight years now and a great deal has happened. The Athena I first commanded was lost on a critical mission and this Athena is a very different one. I come from a security background and my mind assumes a tactical stance quite often. But… I will say that I’ve changed a great deal over the years as well, for many reasons. The thing that has no changed is my absolute requirement for my crew to perform at their absolute best and not accept mediocrity as the norm. Though I’m tough and I suffer no fools, I do care about this crew deeply. I feel each and every one of them and they are part of the white noise of my mind. it means that it’s a rare thing for something to be really wrong on my ship and I not not know about it. It can happen, but it would be rare.” It was pretty open of her, but it was barely scratching the surface of what the XO would come to learn about her CO.
