Luka stared at the Turbolift walls as the capsule carried her upwards and towards the bridge. Her tail wagged despite her best efforts to keep it still. She smiled slightly to herself. She was still amazed at the similarities between the some of the life-forms on her planet, and those of creatures on earth. Something that had fascinated her particularly was the rabbit, a strange wingless and spineless borkin. What use was a borkin if it couldn’t fly and had no hunting instinct? And those dog things humans had as pets. Strange creatures, they were. And they always barked and growled at her! She wondered if her new captain would be upset about Mukin? Well, only one way to find out, she supposed. But perhaps… it would be best to leave the mentions of Mukin until later. She closed her eyes for a moment as the turbolift doors slid open, then she stepped onto the bridge. She definitely got a few funny looks as she stepped across the bridge, but she ignored it. They would get used to her presence soon enough. A large hand pressed against the chime, then the alien officer waited for the door the to Captain’s ready room to slide open.
“Enter,” came the heavily accented reply.
Inside the spacious office space, Ghubari was at her desk off to the side of the room, not too far from the door. Two chairs sat in front of it for guests, while a sitting area with a sofa and coffee table sat in the back of the office along the windows that offered a wonderful view of space and wherever their locale might be. In this case, it was space and the traffic coming to and from around their berth at Starbase 157. There were a couple leafy larger potted plants in the sitting area, and smaller flowering plants were dotted strategically in places, including the set of selves opposite the desk where Ghubari kept her personal effects. There was an ebony wood masked, carved in a somewhat abstract manner, a carved statue of a couple entwined in an embrace and sitting on a rock (in a glossy finish of ebony wood), a small handwoven basket, a picture of Ghubari and an older woman (with even darker skin who resembled her) sitting on the steps of a small white washed house, and another photo of Ghubari and Konral taken at their impromptu wedding last year on the Athena.
When the door did open, Luka stepped in and took the PaDD from where it was tucked into her belt and handed it over to the Captain. “Captain,” she said, saluting. “I am Commander Luka of Galdor, reporting for duty. I have been assigned to your vessel as Executive Officer. I am now under your command, sir,” she finished, holding her salute until the Captain would inform her to relax her stance. “I am happy to join this ship, Captain, and I will do my best to be the best XO that I can be. My orders from Starfleet Command to report to your ship can be found on this PaDD,” she said, gesturing to the PaDD she had handed to the Captain.

Damn, they move fast, Koraia mused to herself, wondering how Command could effect a transfer so quickly and neglect other necessities until they were hounded over and over. It would never cease to amaze her, even if she knew she shouldn’t be so surprised.
The empath rose to her feet and studied Luka, taking in what appeared to be her new first officer. Reaching out with a dark hand, she accepted the PADD. “At ease, Commander. And while I run a tight ship, I don’t require salutes.” She tapped her head with a couple fingers. “Being an empath generally means I know when people are sincere or not. For me, a salute doesn’t necessarily convey an abundance of respect.”
Gesturing to the sofa, she moved around the desk. “Come, have a seat and let’s get to know each other.”
Koraia settled on side of the sofa that was slightly curved to match the exterior shape of the ship. “I had no pre-warning about who my new Exec would be, so I haven’t had a chance to read your file. How about you fill me in?”

Luka stepped over to the aforementioned sofa and sat down. She tapped her toes on the ground once or twice, then smiled slightly. “Um, I’m not sure exactly what you’d like to know about me, so I’ll just start with my duty record. I graduated from the Galdori Space Academy in 2376 and served aboard the G.S.S. Ku’mal for three years in operations, then I was transferred to the G.S.S. Ti’kol where I served until 2385. At that time, I felt a desire to explore beyond where my people’s vessels were willing to take me, and to learn more about other peoples, so I requested to be one of the officers transferred into Starfleet. My request was accepted, and I joined the U.S.S. Killian, where I served as an operations officer until I was promoted onto the U.S.S. Greyhound in 2391. I served as the Chief of Operations there until I received my orders to report to the Athena just a few days ago,” she explained, listing off the dates and assignments. She wouldn’t deny that she was going to miss Captain Shore, but there was no changing that.
She smiled slightly, hoping her words had been sufficient. She knew nothing of her new Commanding Officer, other than the scant information she had been able to glean from the hastily accessed public records. “If you’re wondering about my alien nature, um, the information is provided in the PaDD I gave you,” she added hastily.
