Liam recounted the data they had collected. There was always a pattern now that he actually considered it.

“We have not tested often enough, but the data we collected indicates it has a primal understanding of emotional stress and pain. In all the tests we performed, only negative emotions like frustration, fear, and anger caused physical changes.”

He licked his lips to pause for a moment. His eyes glanced down at his hands while he continued.

“The fight response triggers a defensive reaction. It’s strongest with anger. Most of that is located in palm as they become hot and even the smallest spark will activate it.”

Liam balled them into fists then forced himself to relax.

“So far, the strongest material I’ve managed to melt is the warp core door. Both when I was angry and starving. As for the emotional connection… it’s difficult to explain. I sense the parasite there, but it’s not intelligence. It reacts based on my emotions and physical condition.”

His eyes looked at Janna with a subtle apologetic nature. He truly wished it was easier to explain, but proper words eluded him. It was likely because he struggled to accurately understand it all. Being considered highly intelligent didn’t automatically ensure he had the right words for everything.

“I’m not sure if I’m making sense or not.”

“Enough,” she said with a smile. “Lucky for you I am good as asking questions if you’re not.”

“So negative emotions with an energetic output. Have you investigated ways of keeping your hands cool in an emergency? Like special gloves or something?” It was a simple question, but right now she wanted to get the gist of what hd and hand’t been explored and his reactions would reveal a lot.
