Ros’ runabout docked on the Athena minutes after leaving the cruiser Vanguard that he and a number of new crew had caught a ride on. It was a short, uneventful trip and as most of Ros’ possessions were being beamed over as part of cargo, his carry on was light. Waiting until the rest of the passengers had disembarked despite many of them offering the Lieutenant Commander the opportunity to leave before them, he flung the light satchel over one shoulder and picked up the box with the carrying handle on top that he chose not to have beamed over, then casually walked down the short ramp and onto the deck of the Athena for the first time. The Bajoran was solidly built, fairly tall with a squared jaw and a short mess of roughed up hair but the two most eye catching features were the deep green eyes that seemed to stare through to a persons soul, and the bright metallic earring of a moon and star hanging from his ear. That earing seemed to glimmer like diamond even when there was no bright light shining on it.
Closing his eyes for a moment he felt more than heard the gentle hum of the ships Warp Core as it vibrated through the decks. Every ship had this, and every ship was different. It was what Engineers called the heartbeat and a good one could tell how the ship was performing by that heartbeat, once they got familiar with it. For a split second that hum merged with him, the rhythm of it matching the slight swing of the moon and star earring hanging from his right ear in traditional Bajoran fashion, then he opened his eyes and carried on walking. A momentary halt to register with the Shuttle Bay crewmember assigned to record arrivals, an identification scan, and a wave away of the offer to direct him to his quarters and he was once again turning for the shuttle bay doors.

A shadow in a nearby shuttles wake coalesced into a dark Caitian figure who fell into step with him as he walked towards the doors. “Welcome aboard the Athena, I trust your trip was uneventful?”.

“Thankfully for whoever may have thought to make it otherwise, yes it was thank you Commander Nightstalker.” Ros answered without any discernable side glance to the Caitian. He clearly knew who this Officer was without introduction. Ros raised his hand and between his fingers was a data chip. “Courtesy of the Office, reports and such that are considered data stream delicate, and an updated Intelligence clearance file in case you need my services.” At this, Ros smirked. “Even when no longer in the Intelligence circle they have a backup plan.’

Stark smiled broadly as he took it. “In all my time of welcoming people onboard, this is the first time anyone has ever handed me a present. Much appreciated. I state for the record that I will indeed make use of your skills set wherever possible and convenient to you”.

Now, it was Ros that paused in his step and turned to face Stark. His lips were pressed into a grin, but his eyes were intense as if a cold flame burned in them, an almost unnatural intensity. “I will be available at your call, Commander. But lets hope, for the record and I mean really, really hope, that my skills aren’t needed. If they are, there is a Human term about us being up a foul smelling creek without a paddle or something.” Ros nodded, and it set the glimmering earring that was shaped like a moon and star swaying back and forth slightly.
“I’m familiar with that reference”, Stark smiled “I think you’ll like it here, our creeks are particularly smelly and our paddles are conspicuously absent”.
“I understand that the Office set my Intelligence clearance authorization to a level that would be suitable if I am needed for field operations, although I am officially no longer part of the Intelligence services. It should all be on that chip,” he looked at the data module once more. “To more important questions though,” now his grin turned into a smirk, “what time is happy hour on this barge?”
Lt Cmdr Akirel, CE
“Why, whenever you turn up to the bar with at least one other person. Marishka makes every hour, happy hour”. Stark chuckled as he thought of Orvos and the dance the two were engaged in. “Show up anywhere on this ship and you’ll find a party or a crisis brewing, sometimes both at once”.
