Daggum slowly extricated himself from her and stood up and went to the replicator. He got a cool glass of water for each of them and came back and sat down. “Here, V… drink something, ok? Just take a breath for a second.”

Daggum

Reaching for the glass more or less automatically, Viyara held onto it for several moments without actually drinking any of the water. It wasn’t till her sobs had slightly subsided that she finally took a few small sips. Putting the glass down onto the coffee table she turned towards Daggum and whispered, “I’m sorry. I know you know it’s not that easy and that you never said it would be. I shouldn’t have snapped at you like that. I’m sorry.”

Daggum looked at her and said “V… I’m really worried about you. I mean, I get that you feel weird… but this is more than that. You see that, don’t you?” He was concerned, deeply concerned, and it showed on his face. “Can I help at all?”

Daggum

With her eyes only partly meeting his, Viyara nodded. She knew he was right, no matter how much she wished that he wasn’t. Reaching for his hand, she gave it a light squeeze and whispered, “I don’t know Daggum. But it means a lot to me that you want to help me. Thank you.” She smiled softly and then let go of his hand. “I can’t promise you anything, but I think … maybe … I’ll try to talk to the counsellor. Lieutenant Kingston, I mean. She seems nice.” With a soft sigh she bowed her head, wishing she could go back to how things were before she’d come to the Athena.

Daggum nodded and spoke softly. “She is. I met her my first day on board. Very relaxed, and seems to be really invested in the crew. I think that would be a really good idea, V. I’ll even go with you, if you think that would help.”

Daggum

“Thank you Daggum,“ Viyara replied in a gentle whisper. “I’d like that and I feel like I have to do this on my own.“ She sighed softly as she hugged her knees tightly to her chest. She didn’t know what else to say or what she should do now. She wasn’t even sure she knew what she wanted to do right in that moment. So she did nothing but sit there in silence.

He nudged her with his elbow and said “Hey… how about we take a break, you enjoy your new furniture, and I’ll come back this evening and we can go get some dinner? Sound good to you?”
