“Belay that please, Comms.” said a heavy German accent. Baumann came to the comm station and said softly “Monitor and record any anomalous communications, try and isolate source or sources, but do not respond until the Captain says to, and then only with what the Captain says, understood?” He then looked at the Captain and said “My apologies, Captain. But there are some possible interested parties in the area that we do not want to announce our presence to. I am available for discussion in private, if you like.” and he gestured to the side of the bridge.

Ari turned at the belay that and eyed Baumann curiously. Nodding to the confused NE Ensign on the Comms as he looked up, she looked back at the Intel Commander.

“Please…” she rose up to head for the ready room. “NE Lieutenant Commander Ambers, you have the bridge.” She headed for the room, leaned on the edge of the table inside and waited for Baumann to enter and close the door. She wasn’t even slightly upset. The look, familiar to him, that was in her eyes, was curiosity. Like breathing to her, curiosity is what drove her. And his reaction was intriguing, indeed!

Baumann waited for the door to close and then said “Perhaps the XO should be a part of this? The possibilities have the potential to effect the whole crew.” he said flatly.

Baumann, Intel

“Then it’s probably a good idea,” she pushed off the table and opened the door. “Amber’s, please send the XO in when he gets here.” She waited for the acknowledgment and closed the door again.

“Is this something involved I need to send for drinks?” She stopped once more at the table and leaned on it once more. “So I take it this has something to do with that information you recieved with the orders?”

Ari

“It does. And that information will continue to do so going forward. Perhaps, once we are done here and you decide our next goal, a brief meeting with and the XO would be in order.” he said flatly.

Baumann, Intel

She frowned slightly then took a deep breath. Business, not personal she reminded herself. Inclining her head with a slight smile, she moved around the table to her customary seat. “As you wish.” She then tapped a button on the console and released it. It would send a message to the mess to bring the drink tray to the ready room. Tea, juice, water and the Commander’s coffee would be present.

“Might as well get comfortable, Wolf. Millet might be a minute.” She nodded to the chair on her right, the left usually being the XO’s seat.

Millet came in with toilet paper stuck to his shoe. “Sorry I’m late Captain. How are you both doing?”

Commander Jean-Francois Millet XO

Siiting at an angle as he was, Baumann nodded and noticed the paper. Without drawing attention, he stepped on the debris as the XO passed to sit, allowing it to pull free and stay on the floor. He adjusted back slightly and then said “Now that we are all here, I will state that the information I am about to share is classified and on a need to know basis only. Now then…” and he looked back and forth to both officers.

“What do you know of the Eugenic’s War?”

Baumann, Intel

Ari sighed and shook her head, unaware of the embarrassment Baumann had saved the XO. “Unfortunately, not much. Generic basics from what we were taught in a quick 3 hour lecture.” She looked to Millet to see if he knew more.

“That’s all I know as well Commander. Nothing more than the very basics.”
