Ari tapped the comm on her chair arm, [O] Baumann, T’Leia… either of you have anything yet?[O]

Rachel looked at the Commander and Armory Chief awaiting their response to the Captains Query.

Dr. Grey - CMO

Baumann spoke softly and said [O] We have initiated contact with one being called Dal. We are following him further into the sphere. Security team has secured and is guarding the shuttle, and second team and myself is with the exploratory team, Captain. [O]

Baumann, AC

While she understood the importance of the mission, their behavior and attitude were the first thing seen. It would represent their species to the individuals they encountered. She personally felt being too stiff could result in a bad impression. However, Baumann was her superior and she didn’t need the paperwork that follows being a bit lippy toward a senior officer. Her eyes glanced at the floor while she waited for the scanner to finish its job.

When Kenneth smiled back at her, her spirits rose a bit. It was a bit infectious because her own began to return. While the Linguist and the Commander talked, she continued to walk beside Kenneth.

-–ENS Naomi D. Locke, Sci

Kenneth smiled lightly, reaching over to grasp her hand for a brief moment as they walked, letting go after a moment.

Out from the tube, the group entered into the ‘main’ sphere - or a level of it. immediately they began to feel an increase in the humidity of the air. It was still cool, and they could smell an ‘earthy’ tone to the air now mixed with a staleness that made it feel like potted plants inside one’s aged relative’s home. The ‘floor’ was a single unit, open space concept with enough standing barriers that would make security’s hackles rise. A central core ‘tube’ of black was the only thing that broke the open space. It was some five meters in diameter and had openings to it in even distances, about 45 degrees from one another. Low tables that were round or oval were dotted about the place, and the only ‘chairs’ were varying ‘bean bag like’ ones the color of grey stone. Some potted plants were there in clusters - they looked to be less decorative and more utilitarian with each sprouting some kind of grain or others that might be vegetable or fruit in nature. Large cages that looked like floor to ceiling bird cages that spanned at least 2 meters in diameter held small creatures.

Here and there through this were over 20 beings that were much like Dal. If some were female it was hard to tell, but one could tell the smaller young to the mature to the aged. The primary difference was the colored crest, that had different shades to it, with the young being an off shade of white to the aged which was a deep blue purple. Dal stood in the middle of all of this .. mess - it was not precisely the neatest organization but seriously ‘lived in’. “Welcome,” Dal said again. “My family.” The translator came out with a confused rendition of clan/tribe/family but settled on the latter. The close Vulcan equivalent would be tribe. “Come. Join. I will introduce.” All the others were pretty stock still in staring at these strange beings, with one ‘young’ evidently startled into diving under a table and peering out with wide eyes.

T’Leia studied the room and the beings within carefully. Quickly noting the grouping and hierarchy denoted by the colorful crests. Family grouping she noted, she wondered if this was the only one or if there were more and if they had a governmental system overall.

Kenny was quiet, his eyes glancing back and forth at the aliens. It was fascinating to meet these people, but he patiently waited for them to explain what was wrong with the vessel they were in so that he could get to trying to fix it.

Kenneth Fleet, CE

Ari’s voice, low and steady, came over their comms. [O]Baumann… T’Leia… the ship outside is heading this way. If you can find a polite way to ask, find out their intentions. I don’t want to raise shields if it’s a diplomatic ship.[O] The wording was what would set off T’Leia and Baumann that she wasn’t as calm as she sounded… something was definitely happening she didn’t want completely overheard.

[O] Understood, Captain. We will ask the question and relay any pertinent information. [O] And Baumann looked towards Dal. In somewhat broken Vulcan, he said “Dal. Ship moving towards my ship. Who is it?” He was hoping the relative simply words would transverse to Dal’s language.

Baumann, AC

Bringing her attention back to Baumann and Dal, T’Leia waited patiently for the other to answer his query so that she would be able to ask her own questions. They needed to get the information needed to be able to assist these people but she also wanted to query him in regards to their society.

Commander T’Leia

Dysart looked at Baumann. “May I?” He shifted his attention to Dal. “Ik nam-tor svi’ wuh hali leaving nash ek’kal?“ (Who is in the ship leaving this sphere?) “Mokuhlek du var-tor etek its lof?” (Can you tell us its purpose?)

-Lt(j.g.) Alan Dysart, Linguist

Rachel simply watched the aliens with great curiosity. There was nothing specific she could tell from just looking at them but she continuously made mental notes regarding their appearance.

Dr. Grey -CMO

Dal pointed to a horizontal line of ‘chairs’, appearing to fuss a little that there may not be enough for everyone. Others of his tribe moved others to be in a flattened triangle. Dal sat in the middle of one of the other lines of the triangle, and another two, older by the look of them, sat across on the other. “This is Guz and Ten,” he said, by way of introduction, then, used a word that loosely translated as ‘elder’.

At that time he addressed the question, even as bowls of some kind of grey, leathery looking ‘fruit?’ was placed on the table. Once they were all settled, those three and awaited the others in the away team, did they reply. It appeared some formality was required. At a nod, Dal replied, though looked at a loss. “We know .. not of this that you speak. What is outside? Beside yourself.” It was clear that they had no idea what that other vessel was. As formal they wished to be in this meeting, there was evident confusion of what the question was.

“Tell him about the Federation and who we are, Dysart. Tell him that we heard their distress call and came to help.” While Dysart was doing that she looked toward Baumann. “Let the Captain know that they do not know who the identity of the ship.” T’Leia was feeling like an orchestra conductor giving instructions to various members of the team. She felt an almost unVulcan like sense of impatience having to work this way and with Dal’s people insistence on formality but reminded herself that their mission was to meet new species.
“Ensign Locke, please scan the food that they are offering us to be sure that it is safe for us to eat.”

Commander T’Leia

Baumann turned from the assembly and said into the comms [O] Baumann to Captain. The individuals here have no inclination as to the nature of the vessel. They seem to be unaware of anything outside their sphere… including us. They are asking what is ‘outside’ besides us. [O]
