Jack could hardly contain himself. He had waited for this posting for a long time, and worked hard for it, and now he was finally here. He had to keep himself from running down the corridors. In his excitement he hadn’t even bothered to unpack his belongings, he had practically launched his bags into his quarters and set straight off for his check in. He couldn’t wait to get involved with the ship and begin to perform his duties.

Walking quickly along the corridors of B Deck, Jack soon found himself at the large doors of Sickbay. His arm reached up, about to press the button that operated the door when he stopped himself. He took a couple of deep breaths and quickly shook his head to one side to shift his fringe along slightly. Jack looked down himself quickly to make sure his Uniform was looking smart and presentable. He then pressed the door button and the large double doors slid open.

Walking in and looking around he saw a lady standing at the side of the room working on something. He walked over and spoke politely.
“Excuse me, I’m looking to check in with the CMO?”

THe woman turned around, her red curls seemed to bob around as she turned. The woman was tall, around twenty centimetres taller than the new officer. She smiled a wide crooked smile and nodded “That’d be me, Doctor Grey, How can I be of assistance, Ensign?” She asked

Dr. Grey - CMO

Jack quickly saluted. “Ensign Fletcher, reporting for duty, Ma’am.” He surprised himself at how serious he sounded. He hoped it didn’t reflect badly on him. He didn’t consider himself to be too serious - only when it mattered, of course.
“I’m the new Medical Junior Office” He smiled. Even just saying that made him feel excited.

“So you are” Rachel smiled at the mans seriousness “Well come on and have a seat, we’ll do a double, interview and examination” She indicated to the bed “You always wanted to become a doctor?” She asked as they walked towards the bed.

“For as long as I can remember, Ma’am” He said as he walked with CMO. “I was infatuated with stories of Doctors aboard sailing ships when I was a Schoolboy. It’s something that’s stayed with me all my life.” The passion he held for those stories was clear to hear in the excitement in his voice.

Rachel chuckled “Have a seat Ensign” She said as she started rummaging through her coat pockets “You’ll find that space travel will provide a different challenge from naval vessels” She still found it amusing that there were still Military naval ships on Earth when they could travel the stars but such opinions she kept to herself.

The tall doctor opened the scanner and started a standard scan cycle “What field did you specialize in?” She asked already knowing the answer.

Jack lifted himself onto the Bed and watched as the Doctor went about her work.

“General Surgery.” Jack Answered. “I figured it would suit me well out in the field. But I’ve always found myself interested in Neurology. So I spent much of my spare time studying into that.” Jack hoped his answer was sufficient. He was was not long out Medical School and basic training, so speaking in a professional way still didn’t come easily to him.

Rachel nodded “You’ll need to brush up on your Xenobiology regularly, we don’t know when we’ll have to service non-humans so you’ll have to be prepared.” Rachel said as she read the readout of her scanner.
