“I’m a good officer, I don’t complain about the shifts I get - at least not to my superiors,” Fleet said with a cheeky grin. While Isaac may be a department head and himself not, the Armory Chief didn’t have a higher rank than Kenny. The engineer’s question caused Kenny to stare at the Helm station for a few moments, looking for anomalies. “Nah, looks fine. You sure you should be doing this while we’re in Warp? Couldn’t that be a problem?”

“Haven’t had a critical incident since the Walker sub-program was devised. It creates a firewall not letting the board initiate any changes until it has done a sub-routine to confirm successful installation with no errors.” The way he said it made it sound like he had said that a lot.

Isaac looked at the engineer “Yes the helm Officer is right. May I see your work orders really quick” he asked “ if your work orders check out then I will give the order for fleet here to drop out of warp”

Galen fished around in the case, pushing aside other cables and tools to then pull out a small hand held display. “Have a look.” The display held a list of jobs for that month, this being one of them.

Isaac took the pad and looked it over. He then started to verify it with his pad “Ok mr. Fleet take us out of warp” he said giving the pad back “ make it fast” he said to the engineer.

Kenny typed a few commands into the Helm Console and flicked a switch or two, and the ship came smoothly out of warp somewhere in the vast nothing between star systems. There was nothing but wide empty space around them for light-years.

“It’s nice to see the stars instead of the inside of a warp bubble, even if it’s only for a few minutes,” he commented.
