Upon hearing Nissek’s report, she pressed her finger to her lips. “I don’t like that sounds of that. If the source is underground, there’s likely a way to get to it. I doubt it’s natural. I feel it would’ve had a bigger influence on their evolution if that was the case.”

She immediately pulled her own scanner out. Its power source had been replaced back in since the black box proved useless. Her hand held it close to Nissek’s, information downloaded into the other device. It showed everything Naomi had collected upon first finding the oddity.

“This is everything I found out on the thing when I scanned for it about twice I think.”

Nissek held her scanner close to Neomi’s, allowing the download so the data could be compared.

Kenny picked up a stone and tossed it from hand to hand, thinking about the situation. It was a bit of a mess, and it didn’t help that no one seemed to have the whole picture. Naomi seemed to be doing well trying to figure everything out, but the pilot didn’t have much to contribute other than standing around and listening to all the discussion. “Think the pilot and his crew have moved on?” he asked, glancing around. Maybe he could continue that scouring of the base. Maybe that power source they were looking for might be accessible from somewhere in the compound?

Fleet, Helm

They did still have some time before the Captain was expecting their next check in, they might as well see what they could still find. Hopefully with the pilot gone, there would be no more surprises. Though it would have been nice to find out what they knew about this installation.

“Okay, let’s hook up with the MACO’s and then get back to our original mission. Naomi, Nissek, look over the scans you have and see what your best approximation of where the energy signature is coming from. We’ll head for the opening in the fence, and see if we can find a building close to the energy source, and see if we can find ourselves a hidden entrance. Sound good everyone?”

Cmdr. McKnight - XO

“Yes, Commander,” Nissek replied, re-reading her own results alongside the results of Neomi’s scans. It would be preferable to her if they found something useful before the next time they checked in, however, she was rather doubtful that would happen. “The power source seems well hidden. Or perhaps, we just aren’t looking in the correct places…”

~ Lt JG Nissek, CE

Information as they had on the mystery power source showed it was of an unknown type to their sciences, but it was very strong given they could get a faint reading of it below ground below the nearby abandoned base. It was obviously outputting a lot of power and could be the source of gravity anomalies washing over this system and area of space since the planet’s arrival here out of nowhere.

As they knew from their brief check through the abandoned base above ground, there had been a guard shack leading to a entry way possibly to an elevator below ground but no one had gotten inside before their pilot had gotten rescued. Starting there first was probably a good idea.

“Let’s go,” Jonathan said as he started heading back towards the opening they had made in the fence. As he ducked through the hole in the fence, he pulled out his own scanner and looked over the scans they had made of the base so far.

Looking up he did a quick head count, making sure that they had everyone on the other side of the fence.

“I’m seeing this small structure, it almost looks like a guard shack, but it’s not where I’d expect a guard shack to be. Let’s head that way. Any objections?”

Cmdr. McKnight - XO

Naomi appreciated Kenny’s input as the team leaned into her favor to further explore. It was a relief she didn’t have to twist anyone’s arm and only come up empty in her results. She took another glance at the signal’s last location on her scanner. A few moments passed in silence as they began to backtrack to the abandoned base. She stepped through the gap in the fence, her eyes still peeled for any unwanted guests.

“I think the power source might be underground. Maybe finding a way inside and looking for a lift or something might help,” Naomi suggested.
