[snip]Baumann looked over at the Scientist and said “Absolutely correct, Ensign. But we must also remember that we are in a active war zone. I am fairly certain anyone will shoot us on site no matter the amount of light we have. Cover of darkness will give us a better chance.” The big German looked again at the perimeter.
“Mines are a definite possibility, but we can assess that easily enough. If you would be so kind as to scan the open ground and see if there are any concentrations of…” and he thought back to his armory days, “… steel, magnesium, phosphorous, or .... what was it… oh yes: trinitrotoluene. If you detect those, we can assume mines are present.”
Baumann, Intel
Naomi couldn’t argue with the fact everyone was likely to shoot first, but she hoped daylight might’ve delayed it a little. Once more she pulled out her scanner and drew to the edge of the field. She pointed her device at it, set to read back the materials found in the location. The science took note of any concentrations of steel, magnesium, phosphorous, or trinitrotoluene. Even minerals with similar make-up were not ignored since she didn’t know much about the planet itself. Earth-like didn’t mean everything was identical.

“Let’s drop the ranks everyone,” Jonathan said looking at everyone. “We need to get into the habit of not using them, in case the worst happens.”
Baumann nodded in acknowledgement and continued his survey.
Looking back towards the compound he studied it for a bit while they looked for mines. “Plus the cover of darkness will allow us to better asses what sort of monitoring they might have. So while they are looking for mines, everyone else see if you can detect any monitoring devices.”
Putting down the equipment he had helped grab, he pulled out his own scanner as he hunkered down, and started searching for any scanning or monitoring devices in the area.

Atzoi had been mostly silently, she was the medical specialist assigned to the away team so mines and ancient Earth weapons were not her thing but the care of the group was and the hazel-eyed blonde-haired woman had caught her attention. Besides looking pretty her antennae could sense changes in atmospherics, only I’m small amount and not always accurate but that didn’t restrict itself to the weather but to people too. She moved slowly, placing her pack over her shoulder and smiled, “How are you doing Naomi.” She asked using the woman’s name and not her rank as the commander ordered. Even if Atozi couldn’t sense the anxiety in the woman it was on her face.

“And if you did not eat before we left, make sure you do so now. We don’t know when our next chance will be.” Baumann said softly to the group. He then knelt down and unslung his pack. Opening it he produced several ration bars, more than enough for everyone. “They are not much on taste, but they will keep you full for a while at least.”
Baumann, Intel
Seeing that they were not going anywhere soon, Bohannon put his equipment down and took a seat. He figured the best thing he could do was stay out of the way until asked to assist.
Bohannon, CE
Kenneth slipped over and sat down next to Wulf. “Nice to be useful, eh?” he asked softly, pulling a ration bar from his own pack and holding it out to the CE.
Fleet, Helm
Baumann looked towards the two and smiled. “Perhaps you could assist Naomi in seeing if we have any unknown or unseen deterrents to our entry? Or as we are now closer Mr. Bohannon, you could try and get an idea as to the energy reading we detected below the surface? Here.” and he reached to his waist and pulled out a modified tricorder and handed it to the Engineer. “This should mirror the functions you would find in a standard Scientific model.”
Baumann, Intel
Bohannon reached into a bag and pulled out an apple. Some people did look at him but he just took a bite and was happy about it.

Scans for mines and other explosives turned up empty in result. No obvious sign of such was in their scanners. Equally negative were signs of life within their scanner range of a half a mile, either on the surface or below ground. However, the large energy source that had brought them here which was even deeper was blocking scans below ground past 100ft. Again no recognition of the type of the power being given was in record though its output was massive clearly. Well off the charts of readability.
During this long period of waiting another pair of jet’s flew by, but this time they engaged another opposite jet coming from the other direction. Instead of missiles thin orange-red plasma bolts of energy rapidly shot out of the nose cones. Scans showed they were not too far off being on par with well conditioned plasma throwers that an Earth cargo ship would use for mining or self defense. They also as they watched the dog fighting above of the two planes weaving and working to kill the third plane could tell on scans the jets were powered not by fossil fuel but fusion charged batteries! After a few brief missed shots, the third plane was hit not too far above them causing the wreckage to crash somewhere a mile or two off to their north. Victory won the two jet’s circled the crash site then proceeded back on a easterly course for parts unknown. But one thing also picked up was that it seems the third pilot had ejected safely in part, and was currently on a drifting course which would bring them down not too far from the wide open field they were not hunkered down on the edge of as night began to settle in.

Atozi had watched the dogfight in awe, she never really saw this style of fighting. Ship to ship battles were usually a battle of who could hit harder but the pilots of those ‘planes’ as they were described to her must have been skilled or very lucky. She watched as the third plane had amassed into a fiery ball of destruction when shortly after the jets left something bloomed in the sky. Picking up her tricorder she scanned. “A LIFE SIGN!” She said a little to loud and covered her mouth, “Sir he may be injured and I can not in good conscious not help him, her.. them?” She hoped she’d be granted permission, “And maybe in return for medical assistance they will give us information?” She added giving her proposal a bit of honey to make it sweeter.

Baumann looked at the XO and said “I think Ms. Sh’Qyrin is correct. Injured or not, they are potentially a good source of information as to what we are standing in the middle of.”
Baumann, Intel
Atozi nodded thanking for the support, “But if he or they are injured then that comes first.” She couldn’t allow the questioning of the person without knowing they were ol first which led her to remembering the Hippocratic Oath she took, “To treat the ill to the best of one’s ability, to preserve a patient’s privacy, to teach the secrets of medicine to the next generation…” she recited in her head while she acted for the green light.

OOC: Quick question beyond the normal garb of the locals everyone is in, how is Atozi hiding her blue skin and antenna? Just so I know
GM CockRoach
It didn’t take Jonathan long to decide, of course they were right, it was a chance to get some information. Not to mention that the survivor probably was probably shot down by the same people who had set up this base in the first place. So whoever it was, would hopefully be more likely to give them some information.
Looking back at the Ensign, Jonathan wondered how in the world they were going to explain her appearance though. When they had beamed down, they had not been expecting to encounter any of the locals.
“Agreed. Though Atozi, you will need to stay back as the rest of us approach.” He held up a hand to cut off the objection he knew was coming. “We did not expect to encounter locals when we beamed down, and well, you stand out from the rest of us. We do not know if these people have ever met people from another planet, and your appearance may cause a hostile reaction. Whoever it is will already be paranoid, landing in potential enemy territory. We need to do this one carefully. Understood?”
Cmdr. McKnight - XO
“Understood Commander but if he’s injured and required medical attention I will have to help them.” She explained, “I can cover my Antennae and explain away the blue skin with a heavily laid dermatology excuse.” She added if it come to it, she hated hiding who she was but sometimes needs must and these could be one of those time. She nodded to affirm she was ready to go.

Baumann reached into his pack and pulled out a billowy cloak with hood and a dark mesh face mask used to conceal ones person during surveillance. “Here, this is available if you would like.”
Baumann, Intel
“Thankyou” Atozi took the cloak and pulled it over her shoulders, she put the hood up and allowed the mesh to fall over her face, it slightly obscured her view but it did the job of cancelling her antenna and blue skin. The only thing now wa sher hands, but she’d cross that bridge when it came to it. She pulled the good back down for now, she may not even need it but she was grateful for it none the less.
