The area around team 2 was thick brush and trees as Naomi had found. But not far ahead it thinned out to a wide open field spanning about a quarter of a mile in length leading up to a a 8ft tall metal wire mesh fence with razor wiring at the top. Scans in general showed no real life near them, radiation levels were up but not too dangerous for a few days of exposure. Distantly the occasional gun shot could be heard or a even more distant rumble or explosion lighting up the skyline far to their west. These were likely more common explosions and not nuclear based devices. Finally once in a while the overhead sound of fast moving jet based aircraft could be heard now and then.

Their first hurdle in approaching the base would be crossing the wide open field which did little to provide any sort of cover from this approach vector, they could try circling around for better vantages but that would take time and increase their risk of being detected or seen but at a glance through the visors there did not appear to be anyone on the surface of the base. The buildings present looked quite shut down and boarded up. Though there was a high energy reading coming from some distant below their feet ahead from the base, IDing it though didn’t match anything known yet

Baumann continued to look at the base through the visor, paying special attention to any possible surveillance devices. “We have a choice. We can either try and circle to find a better approach, but I sincerely doubt that will happen as they have cut back cover here so why would they not all around. We can approach now and hope that there is no one watching. Or we can wait for dark and make our approach. I recommend the latter.”

“How long until nightfall?” Jonathan said as he moved over towards Baumann. “Because I agree, it would be a better decision. And it would give us more time to observe the facility before we approach.”

Hearing a question about nightfall, Kenneth glanced up, trying to assess the position of the sun. “It’s not clear when night will fall. Did we determine the rotational velocity of the planet?”

“If I remember our scans correctly… “Baumann said still surveilling the facility, “… it was almost identical to Earth.”

The planet’s rotational speed was indeed near to Earth’s, in this case they had about 2-3 hours or so till night fully fell. For Baumanna still scanning the facility he couldn’t see much more to make out from here then previously mentioned. If the base was occupied it was doing a good job of looking abandoned or decommissioned. Lights were either blown out or simply unpowered and no signs of movement from locals was evident above the ground or what little they could scan below.
