USS Memorial
Pre sim. Boarding
Zoz-Eki-Ion like most of his species did not like being planet side. He had been raised to maturity on a trade ship plying it’s way between the stars and delivering cargos to orbital stations. So his four years at the academy had been a uncomfortable nightmare he had endured out of sheer stubborness. He had avoided leaving the buildings and even shied away from windows his entire time. He wasn’t so much afraid as he was just not built to deal with living on a planet subjected to weather phenominon. He had vivid memories of survival training in the mountains. A sudden rain, lightning and high winds had thrust him into the air higher and higher whirling him round and round and dragging him helplessly along it’s path till it had entered a area where weather control disapated it. It had taken him what felt like forever to make his way to end camp to complete the exercise. Two days after he was supposed to have gotten there. He was a relative term of course as she was equally appropriate while neither he nor she was factually appropriate at all. Zoz-Eki-Ion was a Argozonite and both genders in equal parts. He appeared to human eyes to be a giant squid except he had 20 tenticles with no suckers that ended in a three fingered hand like appendage. His four equally spaced eyes let him see in all directions at once except straight up and down. He didn’t really hate or fear planets but more found them inconvenient at best.
He had of course been asigned to a backwards mudball as his first post academy assignment and had done his best as expected. His commander had requested a in space assignment for Zoz-Eki-Ion as soon as he had presented himself to her. It had taken two years for the request to process. He had worked with a partner so he could latch on and not get blown away by weather which was pretty much all ther was of interest on the planet, except for a edible root that was grown in the muddy soil that refused to grow anywhere else. His partner had a theory that the only reason anyone was assigned to this miserable ball of mud population 1000 and 3 dozen shaggy cowlike creatures was that they had somehow sinned against Federation legalitys. Zoz as his partner called him, thought it more likely that a Admiral either liked the roots grown or sent people he could not otherwise fit into fleet organization here to wait for openings. Any of the reasons could of course be valid.
His partner took him out to the ferrocrete slab that seved as a landing pad for shuttles as it was as usual both windy and raining. And hugged Zoz tightly. Zoz was confused as this seemed a odd place to engage in a mating ritual and a exchange of genetic materials would prove useless to either of them but just wrapped her and squeezed her back before disengaging. Humanoids did strange things for inexplicable reasons and he had learned not to ask questions he was not prepared to get answers to.
The trip by shuttle was uneventful. He had boarded the USS Memorial to be part of it’s crew without more fuss and surprise than was usual when people saw him. Which is to say there was one hysterical person screaming about a horrible space monster on the loose he had apprehended and given a citation to for inciting hystronics, unethical racial slurs and disturbing the peace. Really the alabet unusual but otherwise functional security uniform he wore ought to be a clue. Star Fleet Captains really ought to know better. He though to himself. The rest of the trip had been largely uneventful except he got pulled into a game of haki sac. By the time he had arrived at the Momorial he was happybto get onto the ship and begin his routine.
