USS Memorial

Reporting in

Shortly after leaving the Counselor’s Office, Sara Lovejoy stepped back into the corridor, the soft hiss of the doors closing behind her. She paused briefly, taking in a slow breath before resuming her duties. Her reflection caught for a moment in the polished surface of the bulkhead — a reminder of her steady composure and the calm gained from the session.

With renewed focus, Sara began making her way through the ship’s passageways, continuing her scheduled check-ins. The gentle hum of the USS Memorial’s engines followed her as she moved from section to section, acknowledging passing crew members with a courteous nod or a brief smile. Each stop along her route offered an opportunity to engage with officers under her command — ensuring morale remained high and operations continued smoothly.

She took note of the activity on each deck, observing the quiet efficiency of the crew as they carried out their assignments. Her presence, though informal, brought a reassuring sense of leadership; she made a point to listen, offering brief words of encouragement where needed.

As she approached her next department, Sara straightened her posture and adjusted her uniform, ready to continue her round of check-ins with the same professionalism and attentiveness that defined her service aboard the USS Memorial.

OOC: you never said where you were going, nor did you ring a chime or knock on a door. You need to tell us what you’re doing and where you are going.

Commander Qyra Nyx
Executive Officer USS Memorial

OOC: I was gonna get that updated tonight.
IC: When she got to the ready room and rang the chime. As she stood there waiting for a response, she smiled.

Cmdr Nyx was in the ready room, having relieved the CO for a few hours while he took some personal time. “Come.” She called out. When the doors hissed open, she looked up from the desk and saw a woman matching the photo of their new CE. “You must be Lt Lovejoy. Please, have a seat.”

She came in and sat down. “Yes commander I am. It’s a wonderful experience for me to actually come and be the Chief Engineer aboard this fine ship of ours.” She said with a smile.

“Captain Nightroad isn’t available at the moment, or he would also be present. That means it’s just you and me.” Nyx sat behind the desk and crossed her legs. “I’ve been over your personnel file, but I’d like you to tell me a little about yourself and your experience.”

She sat there with some pondering time. She then replied. “Well if you’ve noticed I’ve been an engineering officer and Chief of engineering before which should be in my service record. I’m a good person to have a Chief engineer. I work well with others. I am a betazoid. And honestly, if you need things fixed I’m your person. I am willing to fix anything and keep this ship going without her falling apart in pieces.” She said smiling and nodding.

“Everything you just listed, I can see in front of me or in your records. I want to know something about the kind of officer you are.” Qyra looked across the desk at the Betazoid, a small challenge in her eyes.

“Yes commander. I apologize. I am that kind of officer that takes orders well. I give orders well as well. I don’t argue with anything or anyone.” She said with a smile.

The last bit didn’t set well with Nyx. “So you do whatever you’re told? No matter what it might be?” That didn’t bode well for the ships’ engineering department. An offcer who didn’t have the courage to ask questions or challenge what might be an unlawful order, had no business serving on the Memorial.

“Depends on what the order might be, but I’m good with following orders.” She said.

Qyra’s mouth set and her jaw tightened. “Lt, you just told me that you do not argue with anything or anyone, but now you say it depends on the order. You realize it sounds like you just flip flopped? How am I supposed to have faith in your abilities if you can do that so easily?” She wanted a well thought out explanaition from Lovejoy about why she’d changed her mind as soon as she heard the XO didn’t like her answer.

“Are you saying that I am not able to do my job?” She asked. “It seems like you are questioning my ability. Yes, I’m able to follow all orders, unless they go against Starfleet code. You don’t trust me. Honestly, that’s funny cause I’m a very trustworthy officer. You really don’t trust me. You should not judge somebody by their cover. And I can tell you are. Yes, I’m a betazoid.” She said.

OOC: Nyx is from a species that are not very emotional in public. She is cool and doesn’t ruffle much. It sounds like she is being hard on Lovejoy, but she is only using what Lovejoy already said in your posts.

Qyra looked at the woman across the desk. “I am simply stating what you, yourself, have said. Perhaps you didn’t explain your answers very well? What I do know, is that I didn’t bring any preconceived notions about you to this meeting, so if you think I don’t trust you, that’s on you. I am Fynarian, and as such, am difficult to read. Also, I never said you couldn’t do your job, but I have to tell you that you are not inspiring confidence right now.”

After Sara hearing that. “I apologize commander. Didn’t mean to overstep.” She replied back. She didn’t exactly met someone like her before this is a first.

OOC: Sorry. She hasn’t fully met someone that is a completely different race then a human.

Cmdr Nyx conciously relaxed her jaw and gave Lovejoy a nod. “I realize I look very human when in uniform, so there was no way for you to know I’m not. All I’m trying to do, Lt, is get a feel for your abilities. I read personnel records all the time, but they only tell me so much. The rest has to be learned from a face to face with the officer. Let’s chalk this meeting up to a misunderstanding.” It isn’t the way she wanted to go forward, but she didn’t see any other way. The woman was already assigned to the Memorial, so Nyx would just have to keep her eyes open to see if she passed muster.

“I’m going to dismiss you in order for you to get your evaluations, unless you have questions for me?”
