Biological parents: Unknown. This species has embraced advances in technology and culture. However, some still practice ‘the old ways’ in which a mother gives her newborn to the entire city/tribe to raise. They believe this instills a profound respect for all others to the child as it grows, because ANY of the adults could be its parents, and ANY of the other children could be its siblings.

Those who follow the old ways live in certain areas where others of a like mind reside. It was in one of these installations that Nyx was raised. Her young life was spent playing and helping others. Once she reached a certain age (approx 10 yrs old in Terran culture), she was put through several tests to see where her natural talents lay. These tests help the elders decide the path for the individual child where her affinities are more natural than those schooled into her. Nyx always loved to hunt (animals, people, things). She provided for her village (a loose term in the 24th century) and protected them. They are not people living in huts, but in sophisticated dwellings. She was chosen to walk the warrior path at an early age, and as her skills improved with experience, she was officially tested in knowledge and proficiency as a hunter/provider. The results of the tests are discussed in the elder group, and if the Feynarian passes them, they are tattooed with identifying marks to alert others of their standing. The silver tattoos are the final rite of passage for that caste. She has spent most of her life taking care of her ‘tribe’. On her previous ship, the Calypso, with its uneventful science missions, Nyx felt her service as a warrior was no longer needed. It left her unsettled and not sure how to adjust to the change. She is stern, but honorable and fair.

Distinguishing marks: Her body is tattooed with a silver amalgam, according to the specifics of her race. No marks can be seen while she is in uniform as the tattoos cover the calf of her left leg and the right side of her back and shoulder in feminine swirls.

Nyx has passed all psychiatric and biological testing by Starfleet. Wanting to explore space more deeply, she applied herself to the command track and moved up quickly in rank. When the invitation came from Captain Nightroad to fill his XO spot, she saw her chance to advance again and accepted immediately. The Memorial is her fourth ship assignment.
