Rado Gainn stood in the shuttle bay, waiting for the shuttle carrying the new First Officer and new counselor to arrive. He wondered what they would be like. Would they be Bajorans like him or not? Would they be competent? How would he mess up the first introduction like he always did? He made sure that his universal basic translator was on, he made sure his zipper was up, and he was currently going over a list of normal things to say to greeting people.

As soon as the shuttle door opened, Qyra grabbed her duffle and headed for the exit. Walking down the ramp, she saw a security officer who looked like he’s been waiting for them to arrive. In uniform, with pips on her collar, she approached. “Are you here for us?” Her question included the counselor who was disembarking behind her.

“I’m Cmdr Nix, newly assigned first officer for the Memorial, and this,” here she gestured to the pretty woman now at her side. “This is LtCmdr Baxter, the new counselor.”

So they weren’t Bajorans. No big deal, but he missed seeing the Bajor nose ridges on folks.

Rado nodded his head. “Yes, I’m, uh, Lieutenant Chief of Security, I serve as the ship’s Rado Gainn.” He said, not noticing his blunder for a few seconds.

“Aw, Pah-wraiths! I meant I’m Lieutenant Rado Gainn, the ship’s security chief.” Rado said, a bit frustrated with himself. “Sorry, I,uh, always mess up introductions.”

Nyx looked at the COS and wondered how he could be in charge of security when he appeared to be timid and unsure of himself. He didn’t inspire a feeling of safety, at least not yet. “Will you take me directly to the Captain and then have my duffle stowed in my quarters, please?”

OOC: I don’t know if Baxter is going to join us here, so you decide when we move.

Rado could tell the new XO wasn’t impressed. Gul First Impressions strikes again.

“Yeah, I’ll, uh, have an ensign take care of it. As for the captain…” Rado trailed off, and looked at the bay doors. “The captain should be here…He may be in his Ready Room.”

OOC: The Gul is a Cardassian military rank. As a Bajoran, I would imagine Rado wouldn’t have very positive experiences with those with such titles.
