Marcus dashed from the quick reaction force bunk he and a few of the other pilots had been gathered knowing the call to deploy would come. “Lets move it people” He shouted observing as engineering and operations ground teams prepared the squadron to fly.

Tyr followed shortly behind the senior pilot. He wondered if it was luck that it was his ready shift when they got the call out. It did feel odd to keep swapping uniforms for different duty shifts, he wondered if he could get dispensation to wear a multi-use uniform.

Marcus, along with the other pilots, moved with a sense of ordered chaos, each step precise and purposeful. He made it to his fighter swiftly, where two deck hands were conducting pre-flight checks. As he approached, the more senior of the pair gave a quick salute before diving into the list of checks.

“Sir, pre-flight checks are nearly complete. We’ve confirmed power to all primary systems. Shield generators are at full capacity. Weapons systems are online and fully charged: phaser arrays and torpedo launchers are primed. Thrusters and impulse engines have passed diagnostics and are green across the board. Communications and navigational systems are synced and calibrated. Life support is functioning within normal parameters, and we’ve topped off the fuel reserves. Any specific preferences or adjustments you’d like before takeoff?”

Marcus nodded, appreciating the thoroughness. “Everything sounds good. Just make sure the inertial dampeners are fine-tuned for maximum maneuverability and double-check the targeting array calibration. I want to make sure we have pinpoint accuracy if things get dicey.”

The deck hand acknowledged the additional requests, “Understood, sir. We’ll ensure the inertial dampeners are optimized and the targeting array is recalibrated. Should only take a moment.”

Marcus watched as the deck hands swiftly made the necessary adjustments, knowing the importance of these final checks. Moments later, the senior deck hand gave him the thumbs up.

“All systems are optimal, Lieutenant. You’re good to go.”

“Thanks,” Marcus said, climbing into the cockpit and securing his helmet. “Let’s make this one count.” He closed the canopy and prepared for launch.
